Of course it's good. Why would devs release something they thought was sub-par? In both cases here, there was already enough diversity to please a wide audience for each class, and by the time the angst over the loss settled for the people who were craving to play these classes, they'd already chosen a new one and moved on, so it's really no big loss. In AOC, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember the cut classes being major besides the Lich, which was absorbed into the Necromancer. In WAR, I'm not sure.. I know lots of people are upset over the loss of the tanks, I'm not in beta and I have no idea how it'll affect the game, but I trust their decisions.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
AoC has different classes? I thought they started removing them a few patches ago. Thought they only wanted ToS from now on

Age of Conan was not so optimistic in its inital class line up in comparison. I could of told you 12 months back war will cut classes (and I did). At the end of the day it doesnt matter so long as the game is better for it. Its scary about the lack of tanks though.
It will be good for them to focus on what they have instead of saying behind the scenes ``oh shit, oh shit, few months to go and what have we to show`` much they same as the AoC devs I suspect, but they left it longer to announce other cuts, which are staple of the genre. You can bet the Mythic boys were watching FC`s launch.
Very different situations I think. AoC merged classes and didn't take the time to balance them before launch. It may be PR spin but I got the impression WAR was cutting the classes because they couldn't see an easy way to balance them in the time they had. They're also still leaving 20 classes at launch which, in my opinion, is more than enough.
Fact is, WAR is selling the cuts JUST like AOC did prior to launch. Problem is, you pretty much have to take their word for it until you see it for yourself. Unfortunately key classes missing from a certain race WILL imbalance things at low level since most players won't venture from their races' zone for at least a few levels.
If they say it won't affect 1-10 RVR, then they are kidding themselves like AOC was at making last minute cuts.
Lastly, they are dancing around the idea of EVER bringing them back. This doesn't mean that they need more time, it means that they don't directly plan on it.
So the question, since this IS more like AOC than it would first appear.... Is, do you think the missing classes are missed? Do you think they should have just given the players the choice to play these "not great" classes if it fits their personality?
Didn't AoC cut out some classes and bundle them into one class like in Beta. I thought they where going to have 4 of each arch type. Like a Lich class that the Lead Dev kept talking about.
All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.
I read all these posts about how bad the cuts are. Okay, cuts doesn't sound too good but I think Mythic is only winning on this. Why do people want 4 more cities, some more classes (while the game already have a good ammount of classes to choose of) instead of better gameplay? All this lowers the hype-level abit, which is think is VERY GOOD, because when the game comes out many will probably be suprised of how good the game is. If the hypelevel was too high the chance is that players will be having a let down and get bored. Got the point even if i made the picture a little bit exaggerated? So, when the game releases we will see these awesome features, and while more players dropping in, maybe they eventually will add those cities and classes.
Am I the only one believing Mythic actually know what they are doing? I think they have planned out this very good because it's not a thing decided over a few days.
The important part is that each class is unique and fun to play. If they could only make 20 unique fun to play classes then so be it.
By T2 I'm sure the population will be blended and I doubt that the classes are complete enough at T1 that this is going to cause some huge balance issue.

with how many different classes does aoc end up?
with how many different classes does war end up?
is this number pretty close? +/- 1 or 2 ?
if not... do the math and figure out the answer and share with the masses.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
No, I think MMORPG developers should take as many computer classes as they can, and show up for class to take notes. Otherwise they might put out a sub par product.
WAR removed the 4 cities to make it more END GAME FOCUSED. (which seems what AoC players and fanboi's are screaming for) I personally see better results with having 4 cities in at launch rather than 2. (seems to me as though it would provide more basis of balancing multiple battlefronts)
they removed the 4 classes MOST LIKELY due to balancing issues and deadlines needing to be met. smart choice? I dont know, i see alot of cons to it, but a few pros which seem foggy. 1 of the pros being it will make tanks more desired instead of being a dime a dozen like rogues/paladins in WoW.
AoC's funding got sunk into level 1-20, looks great.. but nothing much else later. atleast WAR is making focus around having fun and something great for end game. rather than hit 80 and go gank (fun for an hour, but nothing to make a career out of)
-EDIT-
and before we scream OMGCUTSINWAR!?!?!
how much was promised in AoC pre-launch that got cut NOT ONLY BEFORE! BUT AFTER LAUNCH TOO!!
-mounted combat
-boobs
-ripping off limbs
-decapitating enemys
-siege (in some aspects)
and my personal favorite
-end game content
-im sure there more.. but i could care less
so please continue to toast to the success of AoC.. please.. do.
ill be playing WAR

You know AoC does have all those things. End Game content is up to the guilds and doesnt require anyone holding your hand to do sieging. If you could care less then why edit your post to try and be negative. Warès focus was for the player to have 6 cities not 2, now they can make those original 2 better which is a good thing. Its like getting frost bite, and the doc telling you he can save 2 toes but not all.
Wait till war is out before saying how great it will be. And hopefully it will be.

cause i could care less about what was cut in AoC, being as i only played an assassin to level 20 in OB.
not saying siege wasnt in game, but it was cut down from what it was supposed to be. and its not like having frost bite, its like having your toes cut off and being told theres a 50-50 chance at this point they can be reattached. no guarantee.
for all that funcom hid for their release. Mythic is looking pretty good by letting their community know about major content and game play changes prior to their release. Probably cause they are confident with their decision.
i also wonder why the blood and nudity has been nerfed in this game, maybe to attract a younger audience that so many bragged about not having.

Whilst I am not/have not been in beta for either game it seems to me the two companies / betas were run totally differently.
Please correct me if I am wrong - AOC beta limited to first 20 levels, so beta testers never got to test all of the game, find out things werent in, and the NDS run almost to release
- WAR beta - they are focus testing different areas, then sending them back for polish. So beta testers have tested all realms, tiers and siege of capitals.
At the moment we are talking about whether we think the changes are good/bad - whats the point - its just my/your opinion with no weight behind it.
I suggest we wait until the NDA is lifted and the people who have actually tested in beta can say what they think about the classes, the impact on RvR etc.
Obviously if the NDA is kept in place for WAR right until release - then yes we can suddenly point and say - must be really bad or they would raise the NDA and let people who have tested talk about the game.
I'd buy War knowing features are missing. I kind of expect that in an MMO. The release of an MMO should have a solid game between level 1-level cap. The end game should be there, but obviously it won't be as rich until after a few patches. After that, what really matters is how the developer handles the progress of the MMO after release.
A perfect comparison is WoW vs. AoC. WoW released with a few bugs, and most were patched quickly. WoW had levels 1-60 covered with stuff to do. WoW had a basic end game. AoC was riddled with bugs. Bugs take a while to patch. The out of memory error riddled my computer even after I made sure all my ram, and video ram was free of defects. The out of memory error is still present nearing three months past launch. AoC leveling took a huge crap at level 30. End game was null. I'm got a vacation at the end of this month and I'm gonna resubscribe to AoC just to give it the benefit of the doubt. Who knows?
Point being? Major cities and racial classes are a minor feature. If War releases with minor bugs, has content for leveling, and a small end game, then War will do fine.
Hmm rly hope that war doesnt turn like aoc. Seeing one joke mmo being bashed by the masses is always fun, especially when it deserves it. FC did everything possible n order to make aoc crappier than minesweeper, and they succeded. But if other mmos start to sell hyped up garbades and a new one come every 4 months then this really shows that the industry is going down.
Because of the sheep effect (all those playing wow because all the kids at their school do), many devs might be discouraged to make a good product and decide to use the hit and run strategy. Lie to everyone about their game's fetures, release it as a hardcore game then tone everything down and release a game that's less polished than many free mmos, and less fun than an excel table.
FC deserves to go down, after making of ao and aoc crappy games ( even though they had a lot of potential) what will their next move be? Which license will they kill next?
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
AoC has many problems but classes are not one of them.
1. AoC has very distinct and interesting classes.
2. AoC has a good number of classes (not too little - LOTRO or too many - WAR)
3. AoC has some of the most unique classes out there: HoX, Bear Shaman.
The problem is balancing but that will be fixed given time.
WAR on the other hand had characters such as Hammerer. What the f*uck is a hammerer? A guy with a hammer? What kind of skills can you come up that can fit this class? Hammer bash? Hammer power attack? Hammer hammering blow? Lame beyond lame. ammerer and Choppa should not have been in game to start with.
Mythic just chewed more than they could swallow, just as every other MMO developer out there with the exception of Turbine.
--------------------------------------------------------- Never argue with idiots. They are immune to logic.
I am sure that they have gotten the knives out and are cutting things like mad over at Mythic. They had to say something, since ppl are in beta and would see whats happening. And they also used the opportunity to play the "we are honest with the community" act.

Classes arn't one of them? lol... seems every other post is about imbalance of classes.
WARs classes are not to many. if you took the time to look you would see theres really only 6 diffrent kind of classes (1.Tanks 2.Melee DPS 3. Ranged DPS 4. Melee Support 5. mid-range support 6. full-range support) but they all play in their own style.
Unique... right.. cause assassin hasnt been done before? or any other form of an assassin... and most of WARs classes are unique to their name.
now the problem is balancing? isnt that kinda contradictory to your first statement that classes arnt the problem? being a PvP focus game i cant see anything being more important than balancing classes.
and as for the hammerer, yes its a terribly uncreative name... but atleast it hasnt been done for the 573rd time. besides... your attempt to troll the hammerer and choppa are, well, sad. just wonder... but how does it feel to perform a 1 trick pony twice?
mythic biting off more than they could chew? how about before trying to attack another developer.. you try and get your own to fix your game.
Mythics cuts are minor to what AoC promised and failed to deliver.

I fail to see the relation between the 2. At this point AOC is so bad, playing PONG is a better option.

Imho it does not matter so much what they hoped would make it in as much as the quality of what did make into the game at release.
