Star Wars Galaxies is a great game, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a game similar to it that is already out or is in the process of making?

To me no game is similar to it.

Closest I plyed to it is ultima online.Heavy on the trade and role playing but lacking in the quests and enviroment.

And I think SWG is not a bad game but just ok myself.

I would say the closest thing to something like swg would be Caeron 3000. You can read all about there ideas at www.Caeron3000.com, they are planning on starting the alpha phase around Q4 of 2004. So check it out and tell me what you think! Personally there are alot of really good ideas and it has great potential.

Ya, SWG is one of akind game.... but that Caeron 3000 game looks pretty cool.... I ll have to here a little more about it.... Maybe the SWG team will end up makin a game similiar to it....??

Well, it's in Open Beta, and not slotted for release for a couple more months, but perhaps you should check out Saga of Ryzom? Played every day since it went to Open, and I'd have to say I am impressed. Solid skill based advancement, has similar ability to harvest resourses from mobs, terrain, etc. Right now it's limited to one continent, so it's not the whole game, but it's pretty good thus far.

SWG sucks. Reason: repetitive as hell! As for that other game caerron3000, it sure looks ugly. Why mix up sci-fi and fantasy?

I don't see anywhere in the post that he asked if SWG sucks .He asked for a game similar to it not a rant .

I recommend something completely different than SWG. Currently, I don´t think there are any fun MMORPG:s out there at all. Hopefully, upcoming games that focus on content rather than grinding will give the genre the kick in the but it needs. My hopes are at City of Heroes, World of Warcraft and Dragon Empires.

Yes, the game is a profession/skill based game. As you increase in skills, you gain titles, just like in SWG. It's not in game yet, but my understanding is that housing will be available and that guilds can have outposts (gotta take them first. )

And to the reply about SWG.... yes it's repetitive, but isn't every MMORPG anymore?

being as SWG is the best MMORPG out IMO, there really is no other game like it.... Second life is about as close as you can get open-ended wise..

Why mix fantasy with si-fi? well it worked for Starwars didn't it? and beside that if you take the best parts of both you will reach a far bigger crowd. and about your remark, SWG sucks, I agree with the other dude, no one asked if sucked......

SWG will give you a good 6 months of fun game play in my experience, but there just isn't enough variety in the end game when it is said and done, as unfortunate as that is because it does have a lot to offer. That is unless, of course, you feel like partaking in quests to become a jedi.

"lets take a universe where there are 20 jedi in the whole thing, and give everyone on the server an easy chance to be one!" . . . what a joyous design decision.

Anyway, if you are looking for something similar in that it is sci-fi - check out anarchy online. It's still one of the best games out there. Much more mature content-wise than SWG

SWG used as its influences - Ultima Online and Anarchy Online.

So if you are looking for anything remotly simular to SWG, play UO and/or AO.
