Type all "leet" in MMORPGs, Forums, or anygame really. It absoltuley makes me go crazy. Its my biggest pet peeve. Its probably one of the reasons I quit World of Warcraft.
I just can't stand when people say "any1" instead of anyone..why can't they just spell it correctly? Also "N E 1" just type ANYONE. GAH!
So, what are some of your pet peeves in MMOs?

I can't stand that snizzle either
I hate when people call me, or other people for noob all the time, it's so annoying. You played nicely for an hour, you make one little mistake, and suddenly you're a noob, .
'Peace Is A Lie, There's Only Passion'

Three things...The spelling shortcuts...Being called noob by a moronic kid.Or worse by an adult who acts like a kid..and begging for stuff....
you might find this interesting.

One slang I really don't mind is "Lol", its the only one I can reall stand. But "lawl" and "lul" are just annoying...
I also hate being called a newb when I ask questions in general chat...just immature and annoying.
The biggest pet peeve I have, is when I have to wait for a reply because someone is trying to type correctly.
In games it could mean win or lose.
Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7
You should use a mic That eliminates the need to type.
I do not mind 1337 though I do not usually speak it. I am more offended by stereotypical behavior, such as assuming that people who play games have no life, or that you cannot be athletic and play games, or people who walk around insulting people for no apparent reason. Now that is annoying.
It doesn't take very long to show that you are not an idiot.
I agree with the OP. There are a ton of "words" that are being used that bug me. Mainly I am bothered by the fact that people are content to look like morons. I don't understand it.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
People that are obsesive compulsive about stupid crap and take game way to serious.
Just bothers me that people don't take an extra second just type the full word and instead use numbers or just shorten the word. I don't understand how anyone could do this : /
Besides it does make you look like a fool..
I just have to ask..Maybe because i'm getting old but what the hell does 1337 and Leet mean?
Agree, I get stereotyped as a gamer who plays WoW. Either I am a kid with no education or I am a fat 30 year old living in my parents basement. Funny most people who think that I could probably rip their heads off. I am 49 years old 225 lbs and less then 10% body fat. I lift weights daily and am a college professor. I also own 2 homes so I do not live in my parents basement. I may not be your typical hardcore gamer but I am not a stereotype and I think there are a lot more gamers out there like me then people think. The educated athletic are also gamers.
in response to the guy asking what is 1337:
you can read more about it on the wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet
Leet or Eleet (in Leet: 1337 or 31337; see table below), also known as Leetspeak or Leetors (1337Z0l2Z), is an alphabet used primarily on the Internet, which uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters. The term is derived from the word "elite", and the usage it describes is a specialized form of symbolic writing. Different dialects of leet are found on different online forums.
Initially, the word leet was used as an adjective, to primarily describe the behavior or accomplishments of others in the community. In that usage, Leet generally carries the same meaning when referring to either the game prowess or, in original usage, hacking expertise of another person. From adjective form its use then expanded to include use as an expletive or interjection in reaction to a demonstration of the former qualities. With the mass proliferation of Internet use in the 1990s into the 21st century, Leet has since become a part of Internet culture and slang.[1] Leet may also be considered a substitution cipher, albeit with much variation from user to user.
History
Leet originated within bulletin board systems in the 1980s,[1][2] where having "elite" status on a BBS allowed a user access to file folders, games, and special chat rooms, often including archives of pirated software, pornography, or text files documenting topics such as how to construct explosives and manufacture illegal drugs.[3] One theory is that it was developed to defeat text filters created by BBS or Internet Relay Chatsystem operators for message boards to discourage the discussion of forbidden topics, like cracking and hacking.[1] However, creative misspellings and ASCII-art-derived words were also a way to attempt to indicate one was knowledgeable about the culture of computer users. Once reserved to use by hackers, crackers, and script kiddies, Leet has since entered the mainstream.[1] It is now also used to mock newbies, or newcomers, on web sites, or in gaming communities.[4] Some consider emoticons and ASCII art, like smiley faces, to be Leet, while others maintain that Leet consists of only symbolic word encryption. More obscure forms of Leet, involving the use of symbol combinations and almost no letters or numbers, continue to be used for its original purpose of encrypted communication. It is also sometimes used as a script language.[5]
Orthography
One of the hallmarks of Leet is its unique approach to orthography, using substitutions of other characters, letters or otherwise, to represent a letter or letters in a word.[3][6] For more casual use of leet, the primary strategy is to use homoglyphs, symbols that closely resemble (to varying degrees) the letters for which they stand. The symbol chosen is flexible—anything that the reader can make sense of is valid. However, this practice is not extensively used in regular Leet; more often it is seen in situations where the argot characteristics of the system are required, either to exclude newbies or outsiders in general. Another use for Leet orthographic substitutions is the creation of paraphrased passwords.[1] By using this method, one can create a relatively secure password which would still be easily remembered. Limitations imposed by websites on password length (usually no more than 36) and the characters permitted (usually alphanumeric and underscore) requires less-extensive forms of Leet when used in this application.
Some examples of Leet include: B1FF and n00b, a term for the stereotypical newbie; the L33t programming language;[5] and the webcomic Megatokyo, which contains characters who speak Leet.
Or you can read your annoying bright red blatent copy/paste job.
Um yes it was a copy and paste and the link for it is there.. since I did not copy and paste the entire page. I only had the definition and history to let the guy have a better understanding since he asked. And yes i use red and love it, and your problem is what? blah get your undies out of a wad .. they have color choices for a reason. This is my color choice. Deal with it.
Lol, deviliscious people will always find something to complain about. You red text of choice is OK (KK) by me.
Yea I always get that" omg why are you playing this for?!!" reaction when people see me or meet me that I met on games but the worst part about it is that if they had met me in person in the first place they usually don't make such a big deal out of the superficial aspects. I have no idea where the whole idea that you have to be fat ,lazy, and poor to play games come from anyways but it is really annoying when people expect you to be just because you like games. I think you are correct there are alot of healthy, wealthy, active, and attractive gamers these days and it is very small minded to think otherwise.
alright, i'll bite on this one.
My pet peeve is the gramatical flavor of the week. For a while it was noob/newb/etc, before that it was scrub, lul/lulz/etc seems fairly popular now, and, hands down saying something is "full of win/fail" or is "epic win/fail" is just irritating.
It's each person's experience and they can play and communicate as they see fit. It just puts an image of a mindless sheep in my head when i see those "flavor of the week" statements.

My # 1 pet peeve are players who choose stupid non roleplaying character names.
I am rabid about this and report every single one for GM's to change.
It takes hardly any effort to find a name that fits the genre of the game, isn't using pop culture or popular fiction, isn't a misspelled attempt of obtaining a specific name that is already being used, and isn't some stupid run on phrase, but it really dampens the immersion of the MMOG when I see idiots who purposely pick names that violate the spirit of the genre. If you are one of these people, I hate you.
Yeah, I don't like people with the name "deathkiller" in games like LOTRO and stuff. Though sometimes when I am able to get a presidents name or something I always snag it for fun. Like I have a Character that looks like Ron Paul in LOTRO and his name is Congressman and his surname is Paul.
hehe, it made me giggle. Though I do not play the character at all really, its just a joke XD

Girls have it worse! Ok well, that's not true for the girls with toon names like "KittyKatGirlxxx"... but for us dignified girls, who DON'T ask for help while mentioning that we also have boobs, it can be difficult. I was in vent once when an officer in my guild accidently miss told guild chat, "Well yea she sounds hot but she probably looks like a troll in real life." >.<
Although my biggest pet peeve is people who fight about shit where everything can read it. If someone stole your kill, please bad talk his mother in whispers because I really doubt anyone else cares. I also hate people that whine!
Currently Playing : WAR, UO, RL
I agree we get it alot worse and even worse than that people never believe you when you tell them you are a real girl born that way and everything, yes our round things are higher. It is beyond their small minds to think that yes hot chics can like games too. LOL
Not big on the whole voice chat thing. People are always asking someone to repeat something, so you hear the same info over and over. And it leads to mindless side chatter a lot too. And people never sound how their toons should. And it can be really confusing to figure out which voice goes with which toon (especially if all the voices sound the same!)
And when something bad happens your ears pop from all the yelling and screaming!
And I hate characters being named "toon" now. Whats with that? I liked avatar better, but that sounds really old fashioned.
