Looking forward to EQ2 Open Beta

JennysMindJennysMind Member UncommonPosts: 869

I was looking forward to WoW and EQ2 before playing the WoW stress test. But I've scratched WoW off my list. The reason I left was that WoW seemed like a polished and improved EQ clone. And I got bored very quickly (like EQ). It may appear strange to people waiting for EQ2 because I guess most of you played EQ. But from what I have read about EQ2, it appears to be a totally different game, more casual player friendly. But again, I won't be sure until the Open Beta goes live.

I dont even think EQ2 will have an open beta.  imageimageimage

    Anyone know?

    I doubt they will

They didnt have open Beta for SWG.  They had open beta for PlanetSide, but SOE never regarded PlanetSide as one of their signature products.

I read on EQII.com Q&A and they said there will be an open beta. Although they didn't know how long it would be and said not everyone will get in. Here is the link.

Well i guess you should judge once youve played them both :). There both coveted in hype so that clouds nearly everything about them

Also its down to preference some people really prefer the fast load times/ quirky graphics of WoW over EQ super hi-res almost life-like graphics. I.e some people find the graphics of EQ2 so 'real' they are unbelievable.

The major downside to EQ2 is that there will be no traditional pvp :(. I.e players wont be able to kill each other, even enemies. There will be npc based competition i.e fighting for fame, getting npcs favour, doing quests etc. But no 1 on 1 fight to the death. Shame if you ask me.

What new things does EQ2 bring to the table tho?

If you want PvP go play counter-strike.

whats wrong with pvp tho? Many other games have done it so that players get that 'choice' to pvp or not pvp. It caters for everyone that way.

Not allowing it restricts people, so eventually people will start feeling like they are missing something. Besides End-game wise PVP keeps players playing a fair bit longer if you ask me.

Sorry about counter-strike post. I remember my old UO days where the uber chars lay in wait to continually kill you ala PvP. I have nothing against a PvP server, and I imagine EQ2 will have it as a server. I also didn't like PvP in DAoC, if your questing in the frontier, and you don't have a posse... your toast, even to the point your fighting a monster and a player comes up to slay you, then the monster, then emote on ya body. I wish PvP had a code of honor. I know I am generalizing but I call em like i see em.

And how does Counter strike to relate to an Everquest massively multiplayer role playing game?

It is a 16 player multiplayer first person shooter with no roleplaying whatsoever.

You should bump your IQ over 10 before spealing nonsense's.

You should bump your IQ over 10 before making spelling and grammar mistakes like "nonsense's" that don't show possession and misspelling "spealing". Learn to spell before you make fun of people's IQs.

WoW fan, the better question is what new does WoW bring to the table?

If you read the information on both games you would see what they bring to the table and what they dont .. saying that neither bring nothing to the table is ignorant talk. Although I haven't read much about WoW cause it just doesn't seem that interesting to me. I wouldn't say they don't bring anything to the table.

Naes .. some people don't really care for PVP .. and in my case, in the games I've played with PVP its turned me off more then anything, especially the unrestricted PVP. If people feel they are being restricted they should move on to a different game.

Exactly its all about preference, if a game gives the users a 'choice' to pvp, but not pvp and not be limited by this action. Then the game will ultimately more successful as it caters for both types of people:

    Pro-pvp
    Anti-Pvp

:). Both can be satisifed that they can exist without pvp or with it.

Why read up on the games when I'm playing them? I think i'm intelligent enough to form my own opinion, thanks.

Anyway, the question was 'what new does WoW bring to the table?" Which is nothing. It just puts a mirror finish on the same old formula, Same as EQ2. Neither bring anything new to the table, they are not revolutionary. What they do is just perfect what's been around since EQ. They'll both be big hits on name recognition alone, but they won't advance the genre, other than setting a higher standard for the next batch of games. There won't be a really revolutionary MMO out for some few years, just due to the technological restraints. You'll get a game or two like DnL that changes a couple things around a bit, but nothing that changes the face of the genre like EQ did.

I took an IQ test today and got a 133, oh, yah, i forget why i wrote, that one of you must have reminded me of it lol

Well then i have to say these 2 games are both taken to the opposite farthest corners of the mmorpg genre.

EQ2 is very questing, story, loot, level related. All of that is a lot of fun, as fun as it can be for each person. Casual players will have loads of fun just going out questing with a group and what-not too. This game is more hardcore and takes a lot of effort, enjoyable effort, to reach the end-game and the really amazingly fun content.

WoW is more Join a world and play your part in defending attacking pvp, their questing, story, loot, level is a very much so smaller part of the game. Comparitively not much effort is needed to reach the high-end content and there is much less of that content other than pvp.

I like them both a lot, a real crazy amount of a lot each.

Nice to see someone recodnized him ::::02::

I take a different view on EQ2 and the casual player. While it is blatantly more casual friendly than EQ was, so far, there are things that make me wonder. Particularly related to crafting, but then I might be doing something wrong, so who knows.

In regards to the casual friendly thing, it really should be read as; Casual players will have loads of fun playing this game. Because the game certainly is not casually friendly in that they will be able to compete with the more hardcore players. What they will be able to do is to log on and have loads of fun playing the game, but they won't see the same progression when the xp scale starts to get a little steep in the game. The casuals can log on and grab some quests and go out with a group into an area and fight their way into a secret cave where a really hard skeleton is and they can kill that and combat and everything will be a lot of fun so they will much enjoy that, but really they just won't get the high-end content that others will strive to get to so they can enjoy it. So, It will be loads of fun for both peoples is my opinion.

I'm excited about it, especially if it is casual gamer friendly.I get times where I'll play daily then wont play except on weekends. I just hope that it wont have the same problems that EQ had......
Having to camp an area for hours, weeks etc just to do your quest. Spending literally hours running to get someplace. etc etc....

Even though I did preorder I'm still hoping to get a chance at beta at some point even a week before it goes live would be good. I havent been really excited about a game release in a long time. Let's hope that the Devs made the game FUN to play above all else.

When (if) Open Beta becomes available, I hope that it will be for more than 5 days.  A serious stress test should take into account at least 2 weekends.

Theres a difference between PK and PvP, well *todays* PvP, Pk is randomly killing people.. Not asking to fight, like pvp or not Race A vs Race B
