Poll: Most anticipated sandbox MMORPG

iZakaroNiZakaroN Member UncommonPosts: 719

There is big hole in MMO fantasy genre. Except EVE (and he is not fantasy) there is no real P2P sandbox game for so many years. What can be you most desired sandbox MMO?

Any quality sandbox MMORPG at this point. Even if it was as buggy as SWG at launch, I'd not mind. Beggars can't be choosers.

I would give anything for an Elder Scrolls Online game, that's why I'm really excited about Mortal Online which reminds me a lot of Elder Scrolls.

Isn't there a rumor going around that there is an Elder Scrolls MMO planned?

Wurm Online and that euro game are the last sandbox.

I doubt you ll see a sandbox design again from any company , they dont sell to the masses and the masses are the ones who buy. Eve is special it hit a niche market , the sci fi geek, it took it over 2 years to build up.

Horizen is / was sandboxish but never took off , Star Wars got its nuts cut off by Lucas for not making enough money.

It is funny people are voting for Darkfall. A game that is never going to see the light of day.

Considering who owns the IP of each of those games listed, I highly doubt any of them will be a sandbox game.

What makes you think a hypothetical "Elder Scrolls Online" game would be a sandbox?  The single player games were sandboxes.

    Fallen Earth.

Not fantasy either, but it might be good.

I would probably like to see an Elder Scrolls Online,  but to be honest Oblivion wasn't up to scratch. I believe Morrowind was superior. If it was developed properly a suggested game such as this (Elder Scrolls Online) could have great potential.

Also in reply to this, I have not heard any rumours of an Elder Scrolls MMORPG planned...

It is funny people are saying Darkfall will never see the light of day. Yet they cant look into the future.

I don't know, but I believe Elder Scrolls online is in the works.  The company reserved a web domain pointing towards the fact, and received somewhere around 200 million dollars for a new project..

    Darkfall

  • MahloMahlo Member UncommonPosts: 814

There was a story a while ago that Bethesda had confirmed an Edler Scrolls MMO. But it turned out to be someone jumping to conclusion. Bethesda denied there was any announcement. I don't think they actually said there was no such game in the pipeline though.

I'd rather look forward to potential vaporware like Darkfall than play any of the garbage currently available or scheduled to release like Warhammer.

Always wished for UO2.. but I know it will never be. The return of Ryzom would be quite fine with me assuming the dev-team that revives this title only improves upon it, and not change its core.

Wurm Online is an excellent example, highly detailed sandbox. My only complaint is it requires you to dedicate your second life towards progressing anywhere. Despite the graphics, me and a few friends enjoyed it until we were so famished we could no longer move.

EVE is as cold and harsh as you can get. It wasn't quite the environment I was hoping for, and at times even with roleplaying became quite tedious.

    Fallen Earth looks good.
    Earthrise also looks interesting.

W.E.L.L. may be my next home, who knows. It looks and sounds great, just depends on its focus and community.

    1. A new SWG MMO

    2. World of Darkness MMO

    3. Fallout MMO

    4. Call of Cthulhu MMO

    5. Mass Effect MMO

Any of these would be cool.

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
    Playing EVE Online and AOC.
    Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

But you can look to the past, and no MMORPG has ever successfully released after being in "development" as long as Darkfall.

I think you could start on an MMORPG today, and write the engine and design the game from scratch, and release it before you ever see Darkfall.

I don't think any of the games listed in the OP are going to be sandbox games. We'll just have to wait and see if any developers try the sandbox model again, or if someone can successfully design a fantasy version of EVE.

  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

An Elder Scrolls MMO would most likely be a sandbox just like the SP series but the others I don't think would be. ES series is a sandbox in a huge way: skill-based, game can be beat as a LEVEL 1, no need to pursue the main storyline ever, can impact the world buy houses, kill/harm many of the NPCs for good, WYSIWYG looting, etc.

The topic is confusing you didnt list games like WELL online, earthrise, APB, etc but rather you choose unannounced titles. Interesting...

you all might enjoy looking at this game: Mortal Online.

it seems like a good fantasy game for those of us who like sandbox style.

  • randomtrandomt Member UncommonPosts: 1,220

    Fallen earth or earthrise

Those names in your poll are mostly big budget names and thus are likely to be mass market wowclone style mmos. Thats just how it goes
