I liked the first couple days of playing, then I realized there wasn't anything that would hold my interest long term. Yes it may have beautiful graphics, but it's formula is too typical without any uniqueness. And I don't see how the end game will keep players around.

Nothings happened to me, All way through my beta testing of WoR i was never a Ryzom Fanatic, i would never die for the game, i did my time i helped the game... nuff said. I QUIT. It aint back stabbing to tell the truth. I hate all the hypes around every game EQ2 and WoW included... cause there seems to be an unwritten rule somewhere that forbids people from saying a games bad unless they want to be called a backstabber.... but what if that game is bad.
You sir are the type of beta testers i loathed during Ryzoms development, they would fanatically defend their game... Everything was right, nothing was wrong. It wouldnt matter if 99% of the population of beta testers just dropped out, it wouldnt matter if the game crashed all the time, they would always use the excuse "Its only a beta". Well now its not a beta and Ryzom has to deal with the big kids now.
You know why i really loathed the fanatics? because its their fault the game was gonna suck. They'd never say a bad word about their game, they'd never let someone else say a bad word about their game unless they got a flaming or two. And this is why fundamental flaws in the game are still present today because we as Beta testers didnt complain enough about it. Just like you have to respond to everybodys post that the game is bad/boring with a flaming/insult. However you dont back it up with any evidence you just say "Where were u?", or "What were u doing sitting down" etc etc.
I blame the fanatics for making this game so much less than what it couldve been.
And as for ryzoms success, sure every game will have a market, but it is far from what it couldve been... far from what it had potentially. AND THAT MY FRIEND IS WHY I LEFT.. i was dissapointed that the potential hadnt showed through.

I have to say the community is the BEST HANDS DOWN community I've been in.. By experience I can tell it's mostly made up of mature older gamers. Mid twenties and up to 30's. My guild I joined it's obvious this game caters to an older crowd. I find it so funny when a child (teens and some young male 20 somethings that act worst than teens) log into game for 3 hours never leave noobland and say game sucks. If this is you, you are much better off playing your mindless first person shooters, City of Heroes repititive mindless game play (give some credit to its combat system.)
I like the crafting and harvesting systems a ton! I love going out and hunting my forage spots so I can have good materials to make the best weapons and items for myself and other players willing to pay the right price.
Killing mobs is somewhat repititive and no uber mob loot is a downside to some but not at all a big deal to me. But this is what you have to do to get to end game, hey no problem for me. Im an achiever and love the leveling race,,, Ill max my skills and own in pvp.
Graphics and Immersion is the best Ive seen in a mmo yet. Having mobs that react to players and the environment is the best I've seen in this game. Hell you have mobs taking leaks on other players.
What I can see is the potential for this game. The RAID ENGINE- in this game, game masters will raid your cities and outposts with armies of hundred of insect like creats and it will be up to you to help or not. If you dont help they will over run the territory and cause harm. Way better than EQ where you have to have 250 people kill one friggin dragon. As I understand there will be dedicated GM's sponsoring these events and will help develop the storyline of this game.
Also I believe there will be mass guild vs guild fights, this is the main reason I'll be playing this game come release next week. My hope is that there will be guilds from each race warring with each other. Mostly against the Matis who are allied with the Karavan. Imo there is no reason to play games if there is no pvp... How can you have fun whacking mobs all day in EQ is crazy to me.
Also I understand there will be real quests impelmented in the game, not the tasks that are in game now. It's to bad they didnt have this in game at release, as it has caused lots of people not to play this game. If Nevrax can put together good guild PVP, with the Raid Engine and good quests with their deep story and plot, Im sure plenty of people including me will see no reason to leave it for EQ2 or WoW.
In my opinion saying the game sucks is a little strong. To me games that sucked at release were AC2, AO and jumpgate. This game doesnt really offer anything new, just a modified version of ac and horizons skill trees. It is an ok game and I will be playing it until something better comes out. I really do not see anything impressive coming out in the near future. Other than graphic upgrades; games have seemed to go downhill after uo. I am not a fan of SoR, but dont think its terrible like some post. I just hope we can get a true second generation game released in the next 10 years.
I followed this game since the beta2 opened to its second closed stage. I have spend many many hours finding bugs, seeing the game grow. Nevrax has many great ideas and is trying to make some things different, than other companies. When some tell the game is boring, I know pretty well what they mean. For each and every aspect in ryzom you have to level, level, level. Even when you try to craft things, or to harvest raw materials, you have to kill those nice creatures. They look nice, many behave nice and they have some cool AI too, as they trvel in packs from point to point, never beeing exactly, where you suspect them.
But if you have seen all the wonders of the game (which are there) it is the levelling again. You can't do much without killing loads of creatures. The second point is a skill system which many people like and many people don't. Anyone can do and become everything they want. You are a kickass fighter and see a buddy doing some cool spells you like, there is nothing preventing you from learning them too after some workload of... well killing those creatures, you have killed loads of time before.
Don't misunderstand me, most MMOs have the levelengine in them. Killing is part of most of these games, but in ryzom everthing looks nice, behaves nice and it gets... well you know it, it gets boring.
Take a crafter. To make a sword you need four thing to mix. So you go out to kill three creatures for it and extract one item from the ground somewhere. Now you have the four parts to make a weapon. Bingo. After crafting some more, you make lvl 2 in crafting. When you are lvl 20, you have to make about 80 swords, to get to crafting level 21 (out of 250! levels). So you name it, Mr. crafter goes out to kill 3 x 80 creatures of the same type and extracts 80 things from somewhere. A level 50 fighter needs level 50 gear. You now know pretty well, what a crafter needs to do, to go up to weapon crafting lvl 50. Until he has learned that much he is level 50 fighter/mage himself. If you only wanted to play a crafter, you can't.
If you play a crafter in DAoC (boring system too), you spend 30% of the time hunting for gold then you spend 70% of the time purchasing raw materials and level your crafting skills. The leveling of the crafting skill takes even longer in ryzom, but you will have to spend at least thrice the time in hunting for raw materials.
No matter how much you want to like this game, or how much you like to kill those really unusual, cool creatures. This game IS boring.
After all the time (even being member of a ryzom fan site) in the beta, I won't even play it, if it comes for free!
The game had potential. Look at the posts of the games fans. They all await great things, but none tells you of the great parts already in. Nevrax didn't listen enough to the testers and they didn't get in enough content to make the game more than the most beautiful killing mission, I have seen so far.
I'm no fan of Ryzom, I will not stay with this game if WoW proves to me to be better. I found this game fun and something I can play til WoW does come out.
But arguing that the game is boring cause you fight mobs over and over and craft items over and over on a rpg game? /boggle Did you ever play rpg games on the NES or Sega systems you would know where these games get there roots.
I love the fact the more work you put into a toon the better the toon becomes, I like the hard work see the results philosphy, it's the American way or least it use to be. People who don't like this should wait for and demand a game that has no leveling and no skills to build up. Ohh wait they do, Sims Online should be perfect for you. In fact I dont know of an RGP that doesnt require working up and building your chars. Ultima Online, EQ, Asherons Call, DAOC, Shadowbane, Eve Online, Final Fantasy, Horizons, Lineage2, etc... Damn, all these people that want instant gratification, instant level 50's, instant max 250 skill trees have bad cases of adult A.D.D or what? Every single one of these games requires doing the same thing over and over again to advance your character. I fail to see the point in a MMO where everyone can max their toons in 1 week and everyone is equal. Hell, go play first person shooters, my hell. But to complain about working up skills and killing mobs in a rgp is the most friggin crazy thing I've heard all week.
Sure it's not innovative, yes it's a timesink, yes it's repetitive, but If you dont like this then the genre isnt for you. But to come bash a game for being what it is,,, (A rpg) is just friggin idiotic.
It's not the gameplay nor the graphic, It's How the people use it and act in the game. Sure, you can have a low graphic game and really undevelloped and i won't name a title that can be greater then EQ itself but and there is a but, the community around it make it goes a certain way. But then again, there is the CSR JOB in that, those called GM and/or Guide... Those are bringing in game a certain expectation that i must say, was never met with the french one at least ( Yea, i can't reveal secret but i still can say my opinion about how it was in Ryzom CSR for french community). Althought i can't talk for the North America community, i must still say that they were to my knowledge not really doibng anything during all those time of beta (I'm in since january). Then if you find it boring with the NA community go to the UK one. They have great team there and it's worth it....
First Artaryl, you have to enjoy the game on your own, you never know who is on. The community of ryzom is the best I have ever met. So if you like the game the better for you, because there really ARE GMs and they will do something, I am sure.
But if you don't like the game without the GMs, they won't make the difference. I know of NWN persistant worlds, where GMs are THE difference, but this is a MMO RPG, whichis a very big difference.
And for Red. I understand you well and it is a pity you didn't (want to) understand my point. It is not fighting mobs in general what is boring, it is my feeling of this particular game, when I do it on Atys. I said I can understand those people feeling this game is boring, because you have to fight mobs for anything in the game. It is not 50 or 250 levels or whatever. It is how you get there. If the whole 250 levels are boring I simply don't play it. There are other games out there, who have a much more interesting system of leveling, which have crafter systems without or with much less killing involved.
I played several other MMORPGs and trust me, I know exactly what I am speaking of. If you like ryzom, this is fine for me. But thiere are people who don't. The don't like it, because the way ryzom handles some things grows boredom for them. Ryzom looks nice, has a nice story, and some nice ideas, but I miss the content. I missed it the whole beta and though they put something in, I still miss more (which other games offer).
The only thing there is is fighting, always the same creatures in lots of sizes with lots of names. (DOn't tell me it is in all games this way, because it isn't) You have a skill system, where noone is something special, because all can be equal, not even the four races have different traits. This I find boring. If you love it, play and enjoy it.
As far as I see, this topic is just for the beta release. And as far as I know a lot of options and quests are unavailable in the beta... So maybay you should have to wait to see the whole game, before you say your opion.
I really liked the beta, and ok leveling up is hard and difficult, but i really dont think it gets boring. If you stay a whole week leveling at the same spot, its boring, but if you go and discover the whole world, it gets really exciting, believe me. And the people i have met in Ryzom are (most of them) GREAT!! I spend hours fighting with them, gathering materials... and in the meanwhile just talking and laughing in the chat
this depends of course of all the people you met, but I think you cant have bad luck
I hope when i buy the game (and i will) this still is, and indead, the new features have to be good, but i am confidend in it
So I liked the beta, and i'm sure i'll like the full game even more..
Haha Neas! Shut you out of the Ryzom boards cause the game has gone retail so now you've found new trolling grounds! I love it!
I for one enjoyed the game a lot and will be buying it on the 21st as soon as it hits the shelf at the Gamestop next to me. Is it a perfect game? no. Could it have been more? sure. Is this true of EVERY game I've played? definitely. Is it true of my own life? definitely. But I don't hate myelf or the other games I've played because of it. From the games I've played (EQ, SWG, EVE, Horizons, L2) this is so far the funnest and easiest to get into MMORPG. I think that says something because I have a sadly short attention span.
Now I'm not out to insult you man (aside from a little jab with the intro sentence) so I'll take your points one by one and debate them with you. Maybe even start a new thread for it so people can follow along? We can go back and forth and compare this game, not with some utopian view of what MMORPG's could be (which I think we've all been seriously let down in contrast between what was promised and what was delivered from Everquest on and possibly before) but rather compare it against games that are currently out there. Now I won't be able to speak towards EQ2 or WoW as I never played them but hopefully I can learn something about them from you through this. Like I said, I don't want to tear you or anyone else down for not liking this game. I would just like some straight forward, no name calling, friendly debate about the pros and cons of this game in relation to other games of the genre.
So if you're up for it, throw up a fresh post with 10 or so bullet pointed cons and we'll do this. Or if you don't care to and someone else reading would like to, I extend the same offer to you all. Actually, I'll start the post, set the rules in the first post and then whoever would like to challenge can have the second post and we'll take it from there.

Morax
Cheers

Really I fail to see your point Goemoe.
Well guys, you know what make a game Boring?
