When it comes to disgruntled veterans, I think there are two camps.

    A)

    The Conscientious Objector

Those who miss the open-ness of the game. The variety of classes, the strength of community. The ability to be Uncle Owen. These people also feel betrayed by the lies SOE heaped upon them with the way the NGE was implemented.

    B) The spoiled petulant child who cannot stand the fact he was no longer elite

Those who have never forgiven SOE for taking away their PK abilities and alpha class. These people also feel betrayed, but not because of the various game changes... they feel betrayed because they are not UBER any longer.

To set A, I hope that a new sandbox comes along that brings all the elements that make a MMORPG great! Be it a classic server, an independent alternative or a new game coming down the pike...

To set B, I think you will be sorely disappointed if KOTOR is an MMORPG, mainly because you guys seem to hate the RPG aspects... I suggest that u instead use some hacks to make yourself feel uber again playing old versions of counterstrike online.

It is pretty clear which group is which from recent postings, I would say.

The sad part, the very sad part about all of this is I really do think a good chunk of people on this board end up falling under B.

I mean I'm sorry but those under B are why I will NEVER support a Classic Server or a Rollback to the old game... Know why? If SOE ever did chances are those people would be screaming on every forum that they 'won' and more people would start acting the same damn way thinking that's how you get Dev's to do something in an MMO and how you get people to see things in your way. Scream, whine, insult, and act like a jerk in order to get what you want...

Ya know we got changes in UO, changes we did want! But it took us acting like *gasps* normal people and talking like normal people and meeting the Dev's at a halfway point.

And I already know what's going to happen with this game, oh lord I know what's going to happen. BioWare is going to make a 'semi' sandbox game world however it is going to be level based, and have combat more like the NGE then the Pre-CU and storylines running in the game... I will bet good money, damn good money that when they show they are doing it that way. The same "upset vets" will start screaming how BioWare doesn't understand what everybody wants, and do well what they have been doing for the last 3+ years.

Anyway to those who are running around claiming they 'won' and have spent the last few years insulting those of us who do play, and those working on the game (even tho Helios is someone who should be insulted to high hell) You didn't win jack, you made many of us look bad thanks to your spiteful, hateful ways.

Oh and coming from a Star Wars "fanboi" I'm glad I'm a Star Wars "fanboi" rather then an upset Pre-CU "fanboi" like most of you.

It is possible to be both Class A and Class B.

    I am.

Yes, I enjoyed interacting with the whole open universe; I enjoyed building relationships with other players; I enjoyed exploring and PVeing.

But I also very much enjoyed the huge endurnace race that came with unlocking and levelling my Jedi. That took me two years and, after that length of time's devotion with many pitfalls and perils on the way, then, I expect and, yes, deserve to play an Alpha toon.

I really hope this is the final nail in the coffin for $OE's NGE. I hope this means we can get classics as a desperate ploy by $OE. But not gonna hold my breath.

Im glad KOTOR is being made, will give it a go but I can guarantee if its not skill based and sandboxy I will last about a month before Im bored and thats the end of that game for me.

Pre-NGE is the level of freedom I expect from an MMO and have never experienced yet from any other.

  • Sain34Sain34 Member UncommonPosts: 293

Last time I looked this is going to be a Bioware game right? Sandboxy? are you serious? It will be heavily story driven and might be skill based. But will certainly play more like WoW than SWG.

Anyone thinking otherwise has no idea what a Bioware game is, or is just plain fooling themselves.

    <Mod edit>

im no fan boi, but im pretty sure that thi game isnt being made with SWg vets in mind. Noone would keep dwelling in the past to make mechanics for people who played a game 5 years ago. Sorry man, but if your not ready to see something new, you will be dissapointed.

Assuming this is legitimate (and that would be awesome), then my only suspicion on why they're still trying to be coy about all of this is that either Bioware doesn't want Kotor marketing and hype to overshadow Dragon Age or technically it's some sort of breach with the SOE agreement.

Yeah, those two guys still playing might like the new game.
Man - if you read the article, it sounds like it may be a console game. I mean, he's not coming out and saying it's going to be PC. He just says they'll  be "sidestepping the three" (Ninetindo, MS and Sony).

From reading the article that quote gave me the direct impression it wouldn't be on console.

It will most likely be on consoles since Bioware already has the tech to just plop it down on a 360 then port it over to PC. And with EA backing them up...its a no brainer

Wow... I hadnt checked MMO news all week until this morning on FoH.

Right off the bat was the WoW-Glider ruling...then saw about EA/BW/KOTOR...so headed over here to check the responses.

Pretty vocal stuff in the general section...and as always it is very animated here.

So Hubert you were a noob-griefer eh? Interesting.

SWGTESTER...is it just a lot of caffeine...or is there some other reason you have gone on like you have?

Not only here in the Vet section...but on the general brds as well.

At the end of the pre-nge era, it is rumored there were 200 to 250k subs active. I have always contended that amount was held by 100k-ish folks holding multiple accounts...but for what I am going to say we will just go with the notion all of them were single account holders.

So 250k SW fans out there in the world.

Does this number seem right? It sure doesnt to me...way too small to represent all SW fans.

So it would seem like there is more than SWG vets to aim for as a SW IP...not to mention the mythical WOW breaker numbers everyone seems to be shooting for.

I just dont see where folks like Tester keep saying the new MMO is "theirs"(as in for folks who liked the SWG crapfest pre-whatever).  Having turned 10 in 78, I was there with a number of other SW fans world-wide nagging our parents to go to the movies. Or to buy us the cool figures which were unlike anything we had ever seen(forget when micronauts launched).

You think you deserve a SW MMO more than the rest of us? You had a MMO even if it was limited in duration...we still havent. And it wasnt just your dollars alone that made SW what it has been over the years.

Lucas owes it to all the fans to launch a game that appeals to the biggest number of fans...not the niche market this time. Bioware will do a great job of that(believe I have all their games now...have PS:T, JE, and ME to finish though...not to mention the black isle spin offs IWD1 and 2).

If they follow their past titles, we will be looking at a content laden adventure...not a sand-box...which will be a good thing.

Give it a chance before going off half-cocked. Bioware has a good rep for a reason.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

    From the Original post:

i just want to know if this will change anything in this game most of us have put years into.

Sorry I can't feel for him. Sony was smiling when they put the screws to what I had spent years working for....

No, Moak, I was never a 'noob griefer', and if you think I said anything like that then you haven't read the posts properly.

And just because people are passionate anhd excited about this news - and express their emotions in my thread - is no excuse to try and denigrate them. You're forty, for goodness sake; so please leave the playground attitude behind.

Gotta agree with most of this; although I don't see a hard line between a sandbox and content driven.

If they make a snadbox with lots of toys, or a game with so much content it may as well be a sandbox, and they do a quality job of it, it just might be a great game.

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Well, to be frank, we don't know either way. "For the last time, KOTOR Online is not here to replace SWG." That may not be true. It might be that LA is indeed looking for a 'SWG2' and has gone to Bioware to produce it, under the name KOTOR Online or whatever, rather than SOE because SE screwed up SWG 1 so badly.

Until we actually hear specifics from LA or Bioware, all these posts of; 'Believe me, it won't be a sandbox' or 'It will never have an open, barrierless world' or 'We shall never see an unlockable alpha class again' are as valueless as any other statements on the subject.

Was really glad to see that Bioware is making a Star Wars mmo, hope it's really an mmorpg.

I have no hope that it's what a lot of people want.A sort of pre-cu SWG done right.I doubt that will ever happen.

I also hope that it does bring about the demise of SWG.The only poeple that I would feel sorry for would be the ones that started playing SWG well after the NGE,and only then if they didn't know about the history of the game..The others..I feel they would get just what they deserve.

To me it isn't about whether SWG is as good now as pre-cu,better or a complete p.o.s.It's about what SOE did to the player base of SWG. They lied, cheated and stole from the vast majority of the SWG players, that's a simple fact.Anyone that doesn't see it that way is plainly deceiving  their self.

I know it wont be sandboxy, but I can hope.

Thats the thing Im saying, Im glad KOTOR MMO is being made but I can guarantee I play it for around a month before Im bored and quit because I aint interested in a linear hold my hand down a path level game. Which basicly describes MMO's now.
