Fear of PvP getting boring

bazebaze Member Posts: 127

Currently the PvP gaming on the PvP servers doesn´t have any goals. For exampel goals like taking over land for your faction or maybe other negative effects to the loosing faction..

Without any goals the PvP gaming will in the end get boring.

Now I´m wondering if you think they will do something about this before the game is released...

WoW is still in beta, so PvP stuff is still being worked on and will be implemented when it's ready. Some stuff I've heard: "There will be rankings and prestige (for PvP), points systems (for factions), titles such as “Defender of the Realm”, and even extra content for PvP’ers of a sufficiently high standing, such as specific PvP instances, with special NPC vendors selling elite items that only the PvP “elite” will be able to access. There will also be item rewards for certain PvP feats."

Plus theyll have the "Openeing of the Portal" quest that will involve 2-3 guilds doing raids. Dunno if  these are PvP or what but still something to do with your guildies.

well i would claim being able to take over land is a pvp goal..just most were unable to see that in the beta due to most were unable to get to sufficient level

I have to say flat out that is crap.  The PvP system on DAoC is SOOOOOO much more developed.  I'm still debating if I will switch to WoW or not but that explination dosn't do much to turn me to WoW.  Until a game can come up with a rvr / pvp system as developed as DAoC I'm not changing.  And whats with this /pvp command that makes it so you can pvp for 5 minutes?  Is that seriously how its done in the game?  I have to say that is just dumb.

Did you even play WoW yet? /pvp is mainly for the PvE server if you wanted to pvp. On the PvP servers you are in PvP mode 24/7 pretty much but there are certain zones where you cant get attacked. This game is still in beta and not everything has been introduced implemented. People need to realize this. This game is FAR FAR FAR better then most of the shit out on the market today. I have faith that they will make a fun game for both carebears and hardcore alike.

No I haven't played it yet.  The rvr system is the only thing that would make me switch.  Until they have huge epic battles where it takes literally hundreds of people charging the keep to take them (like DAoC) I won't switch.  Obviously its still in beta but its quite apparent that they aren’t developing for huge battles and for me that’s simply not acceptable.  I'll play the beta (if I can get in) but I won't buy unless they make some serious changes.

Go play DAoC and you will understand what a true rvr system is all about.

Accually I have played WoW and even in the PvP servers you are not in PvP mode 24/7.   I know its still being worked on and i loved the game play but the PvP part is lacking.  Also I could care less about PvP rewards I'd prefer PvP penalties, I mean if ya lose a fight you should drop gold, loot, whatever.  I don't want to see mass Zerg attacks that no one fears their own death they have to know that doing the PvP thing will cost them something not just rewarded if they kill 3 people before they are slain themselves.

you think huge epic battles are going to be lacking in WoW?? i'm pretty positive blizzard is planning on implimenting large faction v. faction scale battle. I know they already have tinkered with the alliance raiding Thunderbluff (Tauren main city). They fully intend to implement these guild v. guild and horde v. alliance type battles into the game. Maybe not at release but I imagine it won't be too far behind. They may not ever make it like DoAC but they aren't making DoAC. blizzard is making WoW and whatever they come up with as far as rvr will be different. my suggestion would be to wait on buying the game when it comes out and see how blizzard handles it, if you're not satisfied then don't buy (ie. no money lost). I'm pretty confident though what blizzard will fill your appetite for the epic battles.

*edit LOL, ok so i just realized i wrote DoAC twice, at least everyone knew i meant to write DAoC. i found that amusing, probably just me... maybe i need a drink::::20::

There aren't any "keeps" like in DAoC, but I've read stories w/screenshots about how the Horde have taken over a given city and the Alliance are fighting to try to get it back.  Before the stress test, I was DAoC all the way, swearing I would never switch over to play WoW.  I decided to try out the stress test just for the hell of it...and I can tell you right now, I will be buying WoW the day it comes out.  It was simply the best beta I have ever seen.  Incredible.  The fact that they're STILL adding things makes me want retail to come out that much more.  Yes PvP is still being worked out, but what they have right now is still impressive.  Being able to take over and run towns is a great idea.

    "They are still adding things"

That's almost a famous quote from players of every game in beta stages. It's why companies let so many people test, to give them the fevor.

If this were any other game the "adding other things" would be a marketing gimick to make you buy a half-ass product.

We are talking about Blizzard though, so yes they will be adding more, and yes it will only get better. When the game is coming from Blizzard you can take their word on it. So many other companies just feed you the coming additions to make you satisfied with a gimp product.

The proof is in the pudding thats what I always say.  Currently they don't have a well defined rvr system.  To date I havn't read anywhere about any land that can be claimed or towns that can be taken by PvP.  Currently the only thing I have read is that you get titals when you kill people in PvP:

Untill I see some actual proof that they will be adding this I'm not going to touch this game.  If a game does not start out with a solid rvr system then its probably not going to have one.  There hasn't been a game yet which has pulled that one off.

Blizzard has stated that the current PvP system in place is no where near what they hope the final product will contain. They have stated many times on the B.Net Forums that they are giving the PvP system currently in place a complete overhaul and hope to encourage more people to PvP by including goals and rewards for completing those goals.

That's just about all I have heard about the topic, so...yeah.

I would like to see a mixture of penalties and rewards. The titles and other rewards are good ideas but you should have to know that if you engage in PvP you might loose stuff or something....

Your kidding right Fire, Keep camping is not fun in DAoC. Its fun for the first day then after dieing every charge cause they blast and shoot arrows into you before your even in spell range. Or worse if your Melee, Siege camping....Woot....

    You must be an alb.

    DAoC sucks...

Fire123, your comparison of anything to the lame, king of the hill, depthless nature of DAoC PvP just helped me realize you have no appreciation or understanding of the meaning of PvP.  Stay with dark age of crap.
