Bet the game never comes out or it dies in under a year. I wouldn't even bother with the beta or a free trial lawlz.

Sarcastic? It's called having an opinion smug fool. The game look boring and dull IMO. Seriously the spy crap died out in the 90s.

having an opinion would be like saying you think it sucks, like in your second post. Saying it wont make it to release isnt an opinion.

I personaly feel that SOE has yet to determine what type of game is, ones I saw the headdeveloper say it's going to a a fast pace action game, then some of SOE will say it's a MMO, like I said I feel SOE still needs to figure out which genre of games to place The Agency .

My thought are that I welcome any new game, doesn't mean I have to like all new games, but as a gamer I like games to come out that are enjoyeble for gamers and this doesn't have to mean that when I enjoy a game everyone else must enjoy it aswell , and also doesn't mean that if I would dislike the game everyone should dislike it.

And sorry I find it very selfish in the way you speak about games like Guildwars or Hello Kitty, I don't like those games but that doesn't mean those games sholdn't be here.

Now when I feel a game should not be here would be a game that NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY. And you see you make a selfish comment cause you know just as everyone else Guildwars is a game that is played by many people and it seem Hello Kitty even has a pretty large fanbase, both of those games are not games I am intrested in but am glad we have those games for those who do have intrest into playing them.

You see one of the things that really hurts this community is people who for some reason have a very selfish additude, when they don't like something it should not even be made or enjoyed by others, I mean how is it possible with a community genre as MMORPG to see people like that. (not completly directed at OP but more in common, cause I think OP meant more of those games should not be here on this website which I also disagree with)

Overall towards The Agency, at this point I don't have a strong opinion yet, there isn't really much info, and the game is just going into a Alpha state which to me is still far from a release state, In some way's it looks intresting ....that is when looking at it being a fast pace action game, if it's going to be a MMO they sure have to show allot of other things than what they have shown or said so far. Graphic wise I wasn't really impressed but then again most games ina Alpha state don't really impresse me untill futher in development.

So overall with the Agency its a WAIT AND SEE what it wil and can become.

Well it certainly won't be free to play, that's a marketing ploy that all the supposedly F2P games use to sucker fools and reel them in and then nickel and dime you beyond what you would have paid for a flat subscription MMOG.

The agency will have microtransactions for both, items and content, so don't believe anyone who says you will be able to enjoy playing the game without spending any money. Supposedly F2P games are designed to coerce you to spend a lot of money in order to advance your character and compete on par with other players.

I've been watching this game since it was announced and I agree that SOE hasn't fully classified it.  But that doesn't mean that it isn't going to be an MMORPG.  It kind of depends on how you classify an MMORPG.

You'll have a character that will advance and gain skills over time, see Q&A part 1.  You'll be in a persistent world that includes thousands of people.  You'll have an agency of people(operattives) that work for you, Q&A part 2.  Gameplay is action based, so it's definitely different than current MMO's.  But it should be included in the group.  For more information on gameplay.

They have yet to determine the payment model, and are watching to see how Freerealms does before deciding.  And to someones point above, the game is costing money to make, so you can be assured that the model will include recovering cost and making money.

In answer to the thread title I would have to say "No."

It is a MMOFPS by the looks of things, and really does not appear to offer much aside from co-operative game play?

For an MMORPG this game just won't stand up.  Looking at the videos the world lacks "immersion".

One of the videos showed a team 'tailing' someone in the main world? Now either there is massive potential for griefing there or the player interaction in the world is very limited - otherwise players could simply run around shooting all the NPCs and ruining others missions? (there are players who will try to do that).

In fact, he says as much in the interview "...public instances where you can perform no-combat missions..."

So, this will limit "immersion" in the world for a start.

(Oh and BTW - to those who will say "But there is no other way to make it work!?" - well, yeah there are other ways to design the game)

The Developers seem to be all about "Fun - Fun - FUN!" but IMHO they have no idea what MMO 'fun' is.  Short-term fun and long-term fun are different things in the computer gaming world.

Short-term fun is fine - and works well in Single Player games, but for MMOs you really want long term fun to keep people subbed up.

The FPS element is short-term fun and wont keep MMORPG gamers interested for more than a month.

It will keep console gamers happy for a couple of months (until they complete the main story line) but thats about all.

The only way to keep players interested in this game long term would be to continually introduce new content (which is simply not possible at the rate players demand) or make it very interactive (PvP) which they already seem to have decided against?  (by design)

The last time I saw a Developer in a Video Interview rabbiting on about "fun" was for PotBS.  'nuff said.

The promised new content will undoubtably just be "cookie cutter" missions over the same terrain (like the jungle instances in PotBS).  Quite simply, at the rate players chew through new content, there is no other way to do it.

The PvP potential with this concept is huge, but already the Developers seem to have limited themselves with the PvP sounding more like skirmish matches by consent.  It doesn't even look like the two different agencies are adversarial?  (and certainly not in the "public instanced world").  Looks more like they are co-operative working toward a common goal?

That's all fine - but what it means is that it is primarily PvE with pre-set, linear, storylines.  (The videos seem to suggest this is how the game is designed with a lot of time apparently invested in cut scenes? - the "Signature Moments")

The Operatives concept is also good but, again, wasted on this design.  I would suggest based on what I have seen that the only player who can interact with your operatives will be you - and everything else will be scripted plot elements.  The operatives will just be Trading Cards?

The comments in the Dev Interviews also suggest to me a Dev team that really lacks imagination.

They appear to be going for a "James Bond" type feel.  But, that feel has already been delivered in several (Single Player) console games.  So, if they want to succeed they really have to offer something more.

They are also clearly aiming at 'action Bond' - not 'intrigue Bond'.  One of the more interesting (potential) elements of the whole spy genre which could make a PvP MMORPG work really well is the fact that there could be so many plots, sub-plots and twists.  There are also so many potential enemies - but, looking at what I have seen here suggests that this will be limited by the Developer's imagination with very little to no 'player content' possible?

"...some of my best experiance have been playing co-operative games (you know, the shooters?) on consoles.  And I think that's one of the experiences we definately want to deliver in The Agency.  Where you and your team (up to 4 players) can play together co-operatively) through the missions.  We think that's going to be awesome..."

Awesome. Well, yes, it will.  For about a month.  Then people will get very bored and move on.

He very clearly says this game is aimed at the "shooter audience".  So those looking for a Spy MMORPG will be very badly disappointed.

The more I listen to the Devs Hal Milton and Matt Wilson

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9OziKdmC_I&feature=related

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnIWPvxQOAk&feature=related

and the more I hear the words "awesome" and "cool" the more disappointed I feel.

This genre has massive potential as an MMORPG - but sadly I don't see that potential being realized here.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

my prediction is, it will almost identical to guild wars. you pay for the initial game once only. then when any new content comes out, you can opt too pay for it if you wish. you of course will have your "safe zones" towns, ect..... where everyone will meet / party up. then once you leave you enter an instance zone for your party only and start your FPS action. of course this has all been talked about before. peace....
