For 1st time, I agree with Explororor

I was planning on coming back to AC2 when Hero 2.0 went live until I tried WoW stress test. I have no doubt now that I will be playing WoW. Many of the members of the guild I'm in tried the stress test too. We are a medium to large guild on Thistledown and most of them already stated that they are going to play WoW and not AC2 when WoW goes live. Consequently there already is talk that our guild is going to reform on WoW. Maybe in the short term there will be 2 branches of the guild.

If WoW is depleting our guild, you can imagine how many other guilds will be diluted. And this is only for WoW. EQ2 is going to be released at the same time. Turbine advertised AC2 and released crafting 2.0. They probably expected  a sharp rise in subscriptions, but it appears the best they could do is not trend downwards. I hope I am wrong, but the writing is on the wall. Turbine blew it from the very begiinning when they released AC2 at least 1/2 year too early. And even though their high-end content is very imaginative and unique, it is not enough to spark interest.

I believe it will all become clearer after Christmas. All we have to do is wait and see.

    1. Other then a couple banners I don't think Turbine has begun the big advertising campaign they were planning.

    2. No wonder new people arent coming to the game with all these claims of how the game compares to others. If you like WoW, great, go play the beta and leave us alone...

I'm not trying to knock the game. I had fun for almost a year. And if Turbine hasn't really advertised the game like you say they are going to, maybe it will catch on. I have noticed their advertising on a lot of game sites. They do say they are going to release an expansion. We will see. Like I said I hope it survives. If you haven't played the game, give it a try. I found it fun for about a half a year until I started getting bored.  And I still think it has potential, but it is running up against some major competition soon and I'm just being realistic in my assessment.

If AC2 can survive through the winter, more power to Turbine. I don't mind eating crow if I am wrong. AC2 is a much better game than the population levels show and hasn't received the credit it deserves. I would further state that if you have never played this game, I would highly recommend it, you are in for a fun time.

It will definitely be an interesting winter.  AC2 has experienced the waves of new game releases and population ups and downs.  Had the whole wow discussion with guild last night, no clear decision yet tho on what game will win out image

Last weekend I went back to AC2 after almost a year.

I was suprised to see arround 500-600 people online but I was very unhappy that it was still lagging and I had a lot of crashes too. The support site shows lots of post of people complaining about it as well. The server looked and felt alive tho and lots of people where talking in global and trade chat. Very positive was the warm welcome from the people I used to play with in the past. Cheers to you all ! But to stay on topic, I am also afraid that lots of people going to WoW or EQ2.

For those who love AC2 I wish you the best and I hope for you all that the releases of WoW and EQ2 won't be te dawnfall for your game.

    Good luck.

Ah, so very easy to blame the one thats trying to make productive points and not flame for AC 2's horrible standing at the moment. Turbine earned their lumps, they can live with them. I as an ex AC 2 player don't see turbine doing one hell of alot to earn back old players. Crafting System 2? Please, as if thats just gonna have them breaking down the doors.

You want to be left alone? Fine, go play in the game and don't sit in a forum where there is going to be DISCUSSION on the quality of a game along with MANY other contraversial topics about any one game. And you dam right people are gonna compare it to other games, its called capitalism, the best product sells the most, you make a bad product you get burned and try harder next time. The people have spoken already with their cancellations, complaints, and their praises as well, it all adds up (or down).

AC2 has not yet experienced the waves of new game releases. AC2 was the first 4th Generation MMORPG released. SWG was the second 4th Gen MMORPG released...... but since SWG is a Sci-Fi themed game, it does not directly compete with AC2. Horizons was the third 4th Gen MMORPG released and does/did compete directly with AC2. AC2 before SWG and HZ released, had already lost 80% of its players. So any population downs, were solely the result of parent company MicroSoft's fault for running AC2 into the dirt.

Turbine has roughly 6 months to 8 months to try getting AC2 off lifesupport (the profits from AC1 are what are supporting AC2.). HZ is close to bankruptcy so is no longer a serious threat to AC2. AC2 right now still exists in a vacume, since it is the only 4th Generation MMORPG that is Fantasy-themed.

It is a matter of time before the REAL wave of new game releases happen - EQ2, WoW, GW, DnL, the migghty VANGUARD, and many more. Heck, it will be a tidal wave. imageimageimage

Roughly 3 months before AC2 released, and 3 months after release, AC2 had the biggest ad campaign ever for a MMORPG except for perhaps EQ. AC2 took out two page ads in every major computer game magazine. AC2 gave out free CDs in one very major well known computer magazine. AC2 had a cover story on the cover of a very major computer gaming magazine. A cover story.

There is nothing wrong with comparing games to other games. As long as no one is posting false information, or points that cannot be backed up with evidence, proofs, and facts. That is how capitalism works. The better product(s) win. AC2 is not the better product according to the majority of gamers who have voted with their wallets and purses. And yes, he and others will leave and go play WoW and other games. It is sad how you treat a former AC2 fan like that. He stated he used to play/still plays AC2 but will soon be leaving. And the reasons why. Nowhere did he call AC2 names, rant on it, he never said anything FALSE about it.

I have to agree with xplorer on this one. The reason we come to these types of sites, & read/post on these boards is so we can keep up with what's going on in our online gaming world.

I,personally, want to know if a good gamer (aka~true guru,N0T true grieferimage ) really has found a title worth sticking with... or one that she/he can't wait to be rid of. And I want to know their reasons why. If they have the same playing & genre styles as myself, but really have a reason for quitting, I'm probably going to respect their opinions a lot more than someone who never even tried the game, but just couldn't resist the urge to flame it image .

The majority of us members here at mmorpg.com are hardcore, longterm online gamers. Translation: We don't mind Paying to Play a good title, but it better be worth our hard-earned cash, creds, etc. image

So please, keep your honest comparisons & opinions coming, folks!... especially those of you who've 'actually' played the games that others only rant about. I respect an honest rant from an honest player, anytime, thank you. image

As for myself, I'm about to give AC2 an honest, ingame try before I form any opinions about it. That being said, I have no intention of quitting AO while I play AC2. I really love our AO community. This will be my 'Twilight Zone' XP~exploring the alta-verse worlds of Sci-Fi & Fantasy. imageimage

Xplorer might remember me and allot of my posts screaming that AC2 is an awsome game!

I also played the stress test of WoW and I have been playing ac2 since release over 1 1/2 years and My entire guild is going over to WoW.

I now understand what Xplorer was saying and I used to be one to tell Xplorer to Go to **** and now I find myself TOTALLY agreeing with him. In fact 2 nights ago I finally canceld my AC2 account after 1 1/2 + years and I can tell you right now I am sooooo excited as are my guild mates that are leaving AC2 to go and play a REAL game!

Check out our site if you think I am just feeding a bunch of crap:

    http://www.chiromat.com/lostsouls/Lsouls.html

You can see we have split our guild into 2 games WoW and AC2 only for the fact there are still some people in our guild that is sticking with AC2 (Have no clue why). But as a guild monarch I will keep our guild supporting both games however I imagine that once WoW goes retail our site will most likely drop AC2 all together and never look back.

Keep in mind it is not AC2 that sucks, it is how the DEVS run and handle things and it is THIS alone that made LONG time players finally give up on turbine. WE ALL know that AC2 has the makings to be one of the best, the problem is and always has been who is running the show and how they are handling things (Marketing, Nerfs, Content that people have been asking for for years, etc)

I think blizzard is lucky that their stress test was so limited... because what the stress test is.. is basically the whole game.  All quests are very basic like that and it is very unfortunate that that is the case.

To be fair, the two things that Ac2 has that are better than  WoW is it has a combat system that doesn't feel sluggish - wow's is fun but it does feel sluggish at times.  Secondly Ac2 has quests lightyears beyond WoW.  I really do hope that WoW live patches (I do intend to buy it because I have waited for it since it was announced - very big blizzard fan) will introduce quests of the calibur of the quests from Asheron's Call 2 during those patches.  Right now WoW's worst area are those boring quests.

What WoW does present (I have been in beta for a long time....) is a great atmosphere that Ac2 just doesn't have - and it is done in a lag free environment.  Both Ac2 and WoW have things that I like in an mmo - both things that stick out for me in all of the mmos that i have played.. that make each of them worth playing.
