a mature related title needs difficulty to go with it
It should be IMPOSSIBLE to reach max level in 10 days, or 10 months.

World of Warcraft created a standard for dumbed down kiddie games that everyone can play and this is the result.
A string of developers from other companies trying to emulate their success by copying their formula.
an mmo on easy mode, where dying is an asset (like traveling quicker), and getting to max level is childsplay.

I hope you realise that when op mentioned 10 days it means 10x24 hours = 240 hours. So according to you reaching cap in a mmo should take more then 10 months. 10 months is like 300x24 hours = 7200 hours.

I've really become tired of World of Warcraft being blamed for every failed MMO that has come around in the last 2 - 3 yrs. I for one never leveled to 60 in 4 days simply because i was able to move around and explore other area's and to craft/proffesions early on.

As far as AoC being as linear as it is with all the quests pushing you in one direction with no other place to go, that wasn't necessarly WoW.

WoW's crafting may not be fantastic but AoC's sucked. I can't even sell the gems I make to a vendor. WTH is that about?

I really wonder if you dont understand why so many companies are trying to emulate Blizzard. It was the first company/game to cater more to the casual/console gamer instead of a niche (  hard core gamers ).

I never played Ultima Online but I did play EQ for over 4 yrs. The reason I never PL or Grinded my way to max level wasnt that I couldnt but because I had so many other things I could do. There was so much to explore in EQ.

Im not trying to say that WoW is some fantastic game but it filled a void that no other developer was aware of at the time. Its Niche just happens to be 9 million subscriptions.

Also, just because a game is Mature rated, what does making it a 10 month grind have to do with that? If its mature its going to cater to 20+ crowed I'd hope. I dont know about you but most of us have jobs and family's and it doesnt mean I can or want to grind out for 10 months to play the end game.

I dont make it a point to post very often but I have grown weary of the WoW bashing because some FanBoy is upset his game isnt exactly as he imagined and decides to blame someone for it.  Yea, you may not be a FanBoy but that is a general statement that I'm sure hold's true.

  • PoopyStuffPoopyStuff Member Posts: 297

I'm not a fanboy of aoc

I just hate to see more of the same in an industry already populated with cookie cutter leveling and death penalies

    Dying used to suck

Traveling to the other side of the world used to take a good amount of time, and rightfully so...

Getting to max level, used to be an achievement, not the norm where you go into a populated area and everyone wears the same equipment and everyone is max level.

All these reasons are why I play eve-online.

Now some of you might say that game sucks, and your opinion is based on what you feel sucks about it

that's fine...  But dying hurts, there's no level cap, and traveling to the other side of the universe takes time.

I just wish the fantasy genre had a game more catered to the hardcore user, rather than the casual.

It's a shame too, cause gone are the days of legends like everquest and ultima.

Part of the culture too, everyone wants things easy, handed to them, and no consequences.  Guess its only natural that mmo's follow the weak trend of human behavior.

If you get lvl 80 in 10 days you missed the whole point and most of the fun.

Why would you buy a game for 50 $ and then grind the whole day, killing the most xp-efficient mob 24/7 ?

Do the quests, read the dialogs, enjoy the background story, and it will take you months to get there, hundreds of hours of entertainment instead of few days mindless grinding.

Never understood why someone would pay 50$ for the game, then pay even more so that someone else plays it to lvl 80. And then what, "enjoy" the game at 80 ?

you also missed the fun because they left a lot of "fun" out. And the quests, meh, so repetitive. repetitive. repetitive. repetitive.

We think the same way but we seem to be in a minority

Personally the first thing I do with a new game is turn off the exp bar, mini-map and anything else that purports to "aid gameplay"

If I am totally stuck on something then I will take a look at the map or delete the quest and re-take it to read the dialogue again to see if I missed something the first time.

This all means that I level very slowly but when I reach level cap I haven't missed much and I get a genuine sense of achievement from having played the game rather than raced to the end.

To me that is what MMORPGS are about.

They are supposed to be an alternative life in a fantasy world.

No one is rushing through real life to be 75 years old in order to see what life is like are they ?

Slow down folks - take time to look around

I play mmos to fight people not the computer.....if i played aoc it would be for pvp and guild seiges not for 1-80.

Leveling is a treadmill to me and its never fun, I dont like any quests ever ( although sometimes its faster to lvl if ya do them). So by rushing through im trying to get to the fun stuff...

I dont really care about stories either, if i want a story ill read a book or watch a movie, I want combat action in a game.

Well nobody in real wants to get to 75 because in real life your not tougher at 75 your just old  and you dont get to seige stuff and kill people.

Are you sure your in the right place?

If you like to go up against real people in 1 on 1 without any need for background or storyline, then games like

    Counterstrike - www.steamgames.com/v/index.php

    Team Fortress 2 - www.teamfortress2fort.com/

    and Battlefield 2 - www.bf2.org/

might be more for you ?

All good games ... all can use a few more targets

p.s. I apologise for the crap linkage but things have got a lot more complex since I was last here

  • TalemireTalemire Member UncommonPosts: 842

Meh, I think it's both the player's and the company's fault. The player chooses not to experience everything the game offers, and the company makes leveling too fast and "hollow." I would much rather have a game with a 50-level cap, but get a good amount of skill upgrades, points, exc. each level and it take forever to max out.

A game is really really good if there's a considerable performance difference between a (for example) level 23 player and a level 24 player. Now if a company can do such a thing with a 100-level cap, that would be amazing. I would assume it's a no-brainer that the longer a company keeps their customers hooked on their product, the more revenue it generates, so why make a game so easy to reach cap?

Your right this really isnt the place for me, why have i been here so long! O thats right nobody goes to massivefps.com .... Really though I play MMO's, heres some games i do like 10six planetside wwiionline endless ages neocron eve HUXLEY . I even played wow , but i dont like it now (it is a good game though). I try every game, I suffer through the levels to get to the fun stuff. I know levels are a trick to get people to play longer and i hope more people figure that out. Regular multiplayer games just dont do it for me anymore although savage is the step in the right direction.(its different every game since you build the base yet still fast paced)

Im hoping soon you wont belong here

When you joined is no indication of if your in the right place mate, times change

The list you give there ( I have time in three of them ) only seems to make me feel even more sure that you are a bit confused as to what you want.

Spend a year in hardline FPS adrenaline blasts and then see how the average MMO feels.

I promise you it will feel like a slow crap .... and yet .... MMORPG's can be fun. I think it might be something to do with actually communicating with people rather than making a snap choice to "Fire or Hold".

Whatever - play to enjoy man, and don't wish me me gone who would you talk to ?

I said wont belong....not gone.....like you think i dont belong now.....

Pure Rpgs are a minority in single/multi player games and soon they will be a minority in mmos.

To me mmo means you have something to fight for....which comes from 10six my first mmo.

I OWNED the bases, i built the bases, i defended the bases, and i took peoples bases.

Even rpgs can do this look at  perfect world aoc lineage 2 ..at the end game there is something to fight for.

Mmo's will evolve passed char customization and pretty armor, I just hope it leans toward conquering the world and the ecomony. I do like fps view more but in the end its just a view, they can make it 3rd person and still be fast paced and fun.

I do play regular fps games when im bored, but they are a time killer nothing i can play for more than a year.

Which 3 did ya play ill tell ya why i liked them...and why you shouldnt..lol

That's what I miss in MMO games.

Slow leveling. Nothing wrong with it. You got "into" your character more because it was your in-game persona much like my level 68 SK in EQ(very slow leveling and folk's knew me as my SK not my SK, War, Rogue ect).

Death doesn't have any real meaning. A run back to where you expired and a repair bill. Give me XP loss, NOT level loss, and a stat penalty to work off (like in AC), and a repair bill, I don't like corpse runs :p

I think lotro's DEED system would work for a slow leveling kinda game. Gives you somthing to do if you not questing and makes grinding mobs(though I do dislike meaningless grinding) not so meaningless(titles, ablilties, ect, I like it).

I have a Piece of advice and it's free.....

For those of you that reach level 80 in x days and then think it's boring to stick around and cut the hell out of it among other crap.

Quit gaming and put your +80 level skills into making something yourself or is that to damn hard to do without third party programs or 50 helpers to stack you full every time you want something.

Some of you 0-80 in 20 minutes flat should smell the coffee, trust me it's there. Plus there is a big world outside try rediscovering that instead of parking your ass in front of a computer 24 x 7 and coming back here to tell us that it's to this and to that. GOD i hate PMS but someone has to know about it. RIGHTTTTTTT.

Quit gaming and stop the Bullshit. developers make games for people to have fun it's obvious that some of you don't  includeing myself so fing QUIT.......................................

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

Well, the OP have a point, almost all games is really easy to play. But the time a team of power levelers who makes turns can level up and the time someone can do it and still sleep, work and have some kind of life differs. Also in AoC, gear is often re used so they can skipp all hard instance for gear and just mail it around so all their chars is leveled with the best gear.

But the PvE of most games should be a lot harder, try play Guildwars in hard mode, thats a kick. That wow is easy since it aims for a lot of young players is one thing but more mature games could be tougher.

Seems like MarL might have one or two issues.

Calm down guy. I like my games ... why do you get so burned if I like what you don't.

and I don't need you to tell me what not to play - I can get that kind of advice from my Four year old Niece

I wasn't burned at all, i was making a response statement of why i like mmos since you think i shouldnt.

We are obviously on two different sides of why we like mmo's yet you said you played 3 of the games i liked. I was curious why, now though i dont care....

Your response though was nothing.....so i guess were done here...lol
