The latest video, posted right here on MMORPG.COM promises the next great story in the DC universe is yours to grab, create, imagine. You can live in the shadow of giants, and matter.
So, chime in...when was the last time you heard this type of statement? Who did you hear it from? Do you trust them to follow through.
D.C., you could have done better, but then again, Smallville and what you would like to call the "Dark Knight" is the only clue you have had in 20 years.
BTW, The "Dark Knight" should have been a BB.
I love SOE...

We don't talk about It because its not going to happen. The game was cancelled & now Cryptic is focusing on (Champions Online)
DC Universe (Cancelled)
(Edited) Ok What the?Just checked the website.Looks like its still going?Im confused now. Will it come out?If so will would be godly.I left my old post in the edit to show i mouthed off anyways.Makes me ponder though
Um, ya no...
That was Marvel Online, not DC...

#1) Because Sony is doing it.
#2) Because the NGE was the 'testbed' for the DC Comics concepts and destroyed SWG.
#3) Because the development rollover at DC Comics has been horrible and if there is any consistency or design 'goal' left it would be a miracle.
#4) All of the Above
Oh yeah lol. didnt notice DC & Marvel are differnt games. My bad.Looks good I now do wonder why we are not talking about it.Hmmmm......
The DC online footage looks....bad. That is my opinion of course, but it reminds me of a super nintendo game called "The Tick". I have much higher hopes for Champions Online.
SOE had little to do with the NGE.Is was Arts/LA

Not only is your first reason very shallow, but I bet you have absolutely no proof linking the NGE and DC universe, and I doubt you really know about their company goals, they appear to be missing. until now there has been little to no info on the game, even still we dont know alot
Agreed
And. er. Cough.
Right! Thankius (turn head, cough).
Your experience with SOE is what? Might I ask?
I am having a hard time pin-pointing a game SOE has done correctly since EQ...Please enlighten.
EQ: Made some change, some time, lost it's grip.
EQ2: Crap, that's where our EQ players went AND it was so bad at launch WoW kicked us.
MxO: Opps. hasn't changed, still sucks.
Vanguard: It sucked when we (cough) bought it.
Planet Side: Hold on, this didn't suck! Our lowest sub'd original game.
DC Online/007xOnline? Who cares? They haven't done anything but milk and screw customers since EQ. Trust them to make a decent game? Who knows. If it remains good over 365 days, I'll be shocked.
People rate the game based on the companies past history. Barring an actual game in hand to review, there is no stronger indicator than a long track record of past actions. In this case the lies, mismanagement and failures of SOE far outweight any actual success they have had. The one good thing they do is put lipstick on a pig. I remember showing that damned EQ2 video to my gaming circle and we all decided to preorder EQ2 instead of WoW. They do make good promotional material when it is in their best interest, but I can't say the same for their games.
When SOE does something to prove they wont just keep repeating history then it will be time to give them benefit of the doubt, but until then expecting anything except the same old is blind optimism.
"BB"? Batman Beyond?

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
Because it's not on the Forums list?
Unless I've overlooked it, it's not under the currently released or under the In Development (where it should be) sections. Are the MMORPG forum mods saying it's not a MMORPG?

I suggest you get some quality detection because you seem to lack it. Everquest 1 is still a good game and so is Everquest 2. EQ2 and its expansions have all been received very well.
I haven't played MXO at release, but I have played it after SOE took over and I had a good time. I don't know the current state of Vanguard from what I have heard the changes SOE has made to Vanguard have been for the better.
Who cares about DC Universe/ The Agency? For one, I do. At least they're doing something new and different from the mmo pack.
I agree, its puzzling
even Darkfall is on the "quick list" for games in development

I won't touch it because it is from SOE.
And Lucas Arts is indeed to blame for SWG CU and NGE, but if SOE had gotten their act together and told LA the right way to do it ( fix bugs, add content ) then LA would have agreed.
LA relied on the experts, and ofcourse put alot of pressure on the devs because WoW was doing so well.
Either way SOE ruined my investment in the game, ruined the friendships I made and I do not want to take the risk of getting into a game again, just to have it totally changed into something else with devs telling me I better leave so I can get replaced.

Good to see you have no problem getting over events that happened over 2 years ago in a video game.
What does 2 years have to do with anything?
The company has a long history of releasing unfinished products and then yanking the rug out from under their customers feet with broad sweeping changes. Even the games that they only publish have been miserable turds.
SOE needs to do something to prove they have changed. Simply letting time pass is no indication that SOE is worth giving another chance to.

When a game is finished is highly debatable. An MMO is never truly finished and there will always be bugs and glitches. There has never been an MMO that was 100% completed at launch and there never will be.
Ofcourse a game changes over time, this happens with every game. So far most changes SOE has made to their games (MxO, EQ2, Vanguard) have received positive reactions from their playerbase. It's only SWG that went completely wrong and apparantly SWG crybabies just can't get over it.
To answer the title question:
CoH+CoV+DCuniverse+ChampionsOnline= 3 Super Hero games too many.
CoH was a nice game, but because it was based on the super hero theme, it was a bit limited, and it has never been a blockbuster (although it did well).
I don't see how DCU can do any better, really don't see what more can it offerrs compared to CoH.........plus it is developed by SoE, which doesn't help.
I dont understand why some people think that 3 superhero mmos is too many
whats the limit for fantasy mmos ? 6?
Scifi ? 4?
I dont know about you but I tire of any mmo after awhile
- its nice to have options to play other games

When watching the teaser trailer one thing really popped out at me...and I am paraphrasing it so it might be a bit off. The tag line basically ends with "the next legend is...you". This reminds me too much of SWG's advertisement a few years ago basically "greatest story ever told...yours". I am not knocking the game; I am actually looking forward to trying it out, just making an observation about their marketing scheme.

With you so far...
So, chime in...when was the last time you heard this type of statement? Who did you hear it from? Do you trust them to follow through.
Last time I heard it it came from SOE. I was playing SWG at the time - they promised all kinds of revamps and new content. I mistakenly believed them.
But after a few years, they decided the game wasn't "Star Warsy" enough and that gamers didn't like "playing in the shadows of giants".
So they dumbed down the game and made everybody a nobody.
I love SOE...
SOE's love tends to hurt real bad.....
