I'm sorry but that's a really unfair argument. In a typical fantasy MMORPG we're all adventurers, in a game like Tabula Rasa we're all soldiers, in a game like EVE we're all pilots, in a game like City of Heroes we're all super heroes.

Hmm... maybe thats why everyone keeps complaining about how MMO's have become so stale lately. No originality. Let me be a soldier, or spy, or pilot, or adventurer, or super hero in ONE game. Now that is diversity and that breaks the MMO molds. Why do people keep acting like a game like this will keep their interest. All of the MMO's you named off, I don't play, for the same reason I won't play this one. Same ol' same ol' crap game with nothing new to bring to the table except it spies now. WTF! Just my opinion. I like to be innovative, original and think outside the current MMO box. It's all just a nitche thing. I want more out of a game.

You can't appeal to everybody, you're asking way, way to much from just one game. It's much better for one game to focus on one theme and get that right instead of trying to appeal to everybody and give a mediocre experience to everyone. You can't create a game that has a flight system of EVE, a full stealth mechanic and content suited for stealth AND adventuring of traditional mmorpg's, that's impossible.

Yo Mr. Gameloading, I'm not stupid. I know you can't appeal to everyone. It's just the majority that I'm after.

As for the rest of your comment... It's that type of attitude that continues to keep MMO's where they are, mediocre, cookie cutter, niche crap. As for a "traditional MMO", you are correct, it is impossible. Get your head out of the box and start thinking NEXGEN.

Quote me: All games are niche games that appeal to certain groups. If you can take all the best parts of each game and put them together you get the next big game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but AO and SWG are pretty diverse are they not. Single theme yes , but lots of player diversity. Especially SWG pre-CU. It appealed to a large audience. Too bad SOE F**ked it up. AO, hell, I can't wait till the graphics upgrade goes live. Lord knows it needs it bad.

A game like Star Wars Galaxies is not really a game that focus on anything, in fact, I think it's the perfect example. Star Wars Galaxies also has some form of space flight combat, is it anything compared to EVE? No, ofcourse not, because it's not the games focus. Or take crafting in mmorpg's. Now some mmorpgs do crafting quite well, but then compare that to a game that is completely build around crafting, such as ATITD. ATITD easily wins.

You can't just take bits and pieces from other games, put them all in one and expect them to work, and it takes way, waaayyy to much time to combine all of EVE with all of SWG,, for example.

That's why games like The Agency's focus is entirely on being a spy/action hero.

YOUR opinion, and that's all it is. We can agree to disagree. In my opinion you are SOOOO wrong. My point shall be proven soon enough. I will forgive you in advance for your short sightedness. Live and learn.

Okay - so we understand the idea, "You are what you wear."  But that can also be interpreted as, "You're only as good as the stats on your gun."  And then I started to remember SOE's whole "We really beleive Micro-transactions are the business model of the future because it allows us to focus on more and better content..." - which in case you didn't know, is code for "We will make more money for doing less!"
I mean... think about this guys.  This game will be even more item-centric than WoW is, and their entire business model is banking on it.  I see this whole game as nothing more than playing a slot machine at a casino.  You don't win, unless you bid the maximum.

Shallow is all the way you think about it, to me if you cant own part of the land then the game is shallow. Theres no point to have a persistant world like WoW, if you cant do anything with it but walk around.

"your only as good as the stats on your gun" is a bit of a stretch, its a fps so thats obviously false.

"we will make more for doing less!" is also untrue, Ive played a ton of microtransaction games and i have never spent 180 or one years worth of sub. WoW cost me over 460.....

You are basically assuming crap that you dont know.. if ya do know please share the link.

You're only as good as your gun - is false because it's an FPS?  What rock do you live under exactly?  So what if it's twitch based... does that stop a gun with better stats from being better than the gun you got last week/month?

Look, it may be an FPS, but SOE wouldn't build a game that they couldn't add more crap to later.  They'll flood this game with "New better gear!" every other week, and really all they're doing is adjusting the values of damage in their number crunching algorythms.  And it's not just about the gun numb-nuts.  There's armor and all kinds of other consumables, like grenades, ammo... the list goes on and on.  So yes, you are only as good as your gun.  The gun you bought last week, will be trumped and rendered useless by the armor someone else bought this week.  But that's okay, because you can buy some better ammunition today to bring your gun up to speed.  But if you want to really get the upper hand, you'll be able to upgrade your gun next week.

As far as not spending more than a years worth of Sub... I would be inclined to say that you probably didn't, but I would also be inclined to say that you probably didn't spend more than you were interested in the game anyhow.  So, in reality - your statement is BS.

Besides that, why on earth would there be a NEW Business model that essentially allows the player to pay for less than equal than stadard Monthly Payments?  This is SOE dude... not some rinky-dink developer who is trying to make a small profit off something that isn't a AAA title.  The game you were playing would probably be F2P if it weren't for the publisher wanting a profit.

Your retort is garbage.... and don't tell people how to post on the forums.  Doing so is annoying.

Name one fps that you cant kill someone because your weapon isnt good enough. You can kill the biggest machine gunner with a pistol if you can aim. So please stop being retarded. The closest game to what you are thinking is gunz and sure being having a better gun helps, but you dont NEED it.

The choice is still mine on how much I want to spend, and if ya think about it the first 50 is free since ya didnt have to buy the game. Not all sony  games are AAA titles look at pirates of the burning sea.

Well, you're right about FPS's.... you don't have to have the best gun if you can aim... except The Agency isn't an FPS - it's an RPG.  Mass Effect is another RPG that plays like an FPS, and your equipment makes a HUGE difference in combat.  Besides that, we're not talking about winning against someone with better gear.  We're talking about a priviledge to have an upperhand, however significat, that is bought with real money.  What this does essentially, is no different than buying money for an MMO from some place, and then using that money to buy some weapon that is outrageously overpriced anyhow.  All this does is allow SOE to make that profit, instead of some Asian MMO grind-house.  Which, to be fair, at least allows our money to go into development - but SOE has shown in the past that they don't do that anyway... and if they do, it's usually mismanaged.

I never said SOE distributes only AAA titles.  The Agency, however, is.  Do you think that SOE is going to put their brand new AAA title on the market, and not make the same amount of money they would make from EQ2?  No - they won't.

I don't care if a game is a WoW killer - I don't even know what hat you pulled this out of, because it has nothing to do with anything I have said.

The problem with MMO's is people like me?  You don't even know me man, and you clearly can't understand anything that I am saying.  I never said The Agency would suck.  I actually think it would be a great game.  What I don't like, is SOE putting a new business model on it, and basically just lying about why they're doing it.  Microtransactions are NOT doing you a favor.  They are NOT for the gamer's benefit.  They are for the people who want to make more money, and it is an idea built for them to make it easier.

So, you need to check yourself mate.  I'm not bashing The Agency here - I'm bashing Microtransactions.  And I don't need proof to state my opinion - so get off it.

The problem with MMO's is people like YOU who allow these publishers to get away with stuff that would never be permissable in any other market.  SOE has tried screwing people before (SWG ring a bell?) and they got burned because of it.  Now, they are the laughing stock of the gaming community.  If they would have just done what they were supposed to be doing in the first place, they wouldn't need a new bsuiness model, with the excuse of "The price of making a game is now more expensive."  The price of making free to play games is more expensive, thereby warranting Microtransactions?  Pff....

When reading interviews about the game I get the feeling the devs are falling into the "sounds cool on paper but isn't  fun to play" syndrome.  This is reflected in the fact that they haven't finalized the stealth stuff.  When you have to struggle to make a concept work it's usually becuase it's a bad idea that will never work well.

is not that you can't make game that will be good at everything is just it will take alot time and time is money to make game you need alot of money this why you focus on something so you can bring it to life and get some money coz no one want work for free

On Topic:  I'm cautiously interested in The Agency - even though it seems to be more of an FPS than an MMO, it sounds like it could be fun.  I really hope they have enough missions with things for support classes to do, that don't get too repetitive. [ ie there are always 3 sec cameras to disable plus 2 alarms on this level mission, none on the next or same just add one on the next...]

A neat scenario could be:  Mission 1 - prevent assassination of X for 30 minutes [time taken to get from hotel to UN or whatever] Success - raid HQ of group who tried to assassinate X;  Fail - X is not dead, but a healer has to keep X alive while rest of group fights of another attack, then whole groups sneaks out of UN to airport/ospital/...

Off Topic:  I'd love to see a Universal RPG MMO!  My version would be to have multiple worlds [genres - fantasy, modern, modern with magic, high tech, old West,...] all connected by Terminator-type portals [you go through, your gear doesn't].  It would have to be skill stat based, not class based, and if it uses any twitch/FPS actions, they would be modified by the character's skill.  Maybe aiming could have hot keys + overhead display which allow you to target Arms/Legs/Torso/Head and display your hit % for each area; a "spray and pray" option that randomly assigns hits would be available, too.  Add in vehicles/mounts/space ships and you've got it all.  The art alone should only take 10 years or so...

I think its obvious this will be on the PS3.  Thats fine by me.  I'm slightly curious about this game.  It seems a bit different and thats what we all want.  I'm pretty tired of the fantasy genre.

Smed and SOE have already announced that The Agency will not be concurrent on the PS3 and PC ( like i have reported on the Rodo Report months ago)  Its hoped since they split them up that they will take advantage of the PCs capabilities.

It's a RMT game so many real gamers will not play it period. SOE is all about RMT in their games now, wether it's being sneaky and adding card games to an existing MMOG or just outright blatant RMT like the Agency is planning where you pay extra for goodies and more content and better service.

Stay away from SOE games, far away. And yes regardless of what subsidiary develops it, it's still a SOE game being marketed by SOE and will be on station pass.
