Offical AoC forums censoring

So, this just happened, like 3 minutes ago.

I posted a thread asking the populus why mods delete threads and data posted by other players, especially when it's not positive PR spin-like info.

The thread was up for MAYbe 2 minutes. I got a PM warning me that "..attacks on moderators are not permitted... "

They censored the thread about ECACTLY what they JUST did!

I PMd back to the mod making note that he/she censored the censoring post. I also asked to be banned, bedcause I was through.

Anyone have similar happenings over there?

BTW, that request for being banned earned me another point. :P

Never had any problems with the mods there but I never post useless threads that go against the forum rules.

You're implying that my question was useless and went against forum rules.

It was niether. I was asking for community input. Same as I am here.

Obviously your post wasnt as nice as your trying to make it seem here, if you went from just asking a question to a fed up mood of asking to be banned.

Really?  You don't see the problem with asking this on an official forrum?

I posted a thread asking the populus why mods delete threads and data posted by other players, especially when it's not positive PR spin-like info.

-1 and banned for not having a clue.

    I wrote exactly this:

"Why do mods seem to delete data posted by other players? Especially when it's something not in a positive public relations spin?

I think this is called censorship.

I wonder how long this thread will live before it's deleted.

Seriously, I'd like to hear other players' take on this censorship-like practice."

Word for word, coppied form the PM I got about the points.

I didn't post this here to ask WHY, I'm asking if others have had similar occurances.

Just because I've got <10 posts doesn't make me anything different than any of you.

Actually that is against forum rules since 2005.

In the community guidelines they say that questioning a moderater on their actions or questioning moderation is against the rules.

Been like that past 3 yrs.

Here is one thread already on the matter: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=140503

And here are the guide lines: http://forums.ageofconan.com/announcement.php?f=8&a=1

    "Moderation

Moderation is not ever a topic for open forum. If you have any questions or feedback on moderation it should be addressed to the community manager or the specific moderator via private message.

    • Do not post threads questioning moderation. Such threads will be removed

    • If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to why a thread was closed or removed please contact the moderator via private message.

First the tone of your presentation is provocation, that speaks volume of your intention.  Even if you do not intend to troll, you make yourself look like it.

Second it is their forum, their administration.  You are a guest in their house.  Stop the George Bush I-am-the-world-police attitude.  You do not walk into another man's house and call your rules.  You obey his rules or you walk out.  Yes, its harsh reality, but Funcom pays for the forum and lets you in as a courtesy.  Learn to respect this.  What you feel is right is not the only standard on earth.

Third, asking to be banned is not a show of heroism.  That is called immaturity.  If you really want to be banned, just log out.  Are you trying to make yourself look like a martyr and generation more materials for web flamming by seeking a ban?

I do not know you, I cannot judge you.  From the way you talk, I can pass judgment on the action itself, and frankly I am not at all impressed by your show.

Anyway you got "censored" because you broke their rules. Its their forums and they have guidelines that you should read before posting.

Many people have come across it, many have not read the rules, or felt it was their right that they had freedom of speech on anything on someone elses internet medium. (Dunno what I said but it sounded good to me)

This is like asking a nazi during world war II why they burn books and getting tossed into the fire. Hail mon freur funcom.

  • MajinashMajinash Member Posts: 1,320

Avery is right about this one.  You were asking for that, pretty much any forum would have removed the thread, not just funcom.  That doesn't mean they don't censure the forums a lot, but it also isn't any good evidence that they are trigger happy with forum closes.

I have never had any issues over there, and I have seen tons of posts about how "bad" the game is, etc and they dont seem to be removed...

Why do so many retards think making posts liek the op is ok?

When you joined the gamed / forums you clicked on a i agree box. That enabled them to ban you account for any/ no reason. That you post the exact same thing as many other persons shows that you didnt want the thread to be useful in anyway.

For the come into your house comment lets put it simple. If i come to your place and say that your wife looks like shit, do you stay calm when i ask you why you look angry?

If stupid kids like you hadn't wet their panties over the hype that Fc serves us this game might have had a decent community to compensate with all the problems the game has.

Why even post on the AoC boards anyway? They are a cess pool of rampant fanboys and haters at war. Except the volunteer mods are most definately on the fanboy side.

All forums are full of idiocy, but the AoC board takes the cake. There isn't really anything yuo can post there that you wont be told to "go back to WoW" or STFU kind of comments. Positive, negative, it doesn't matter. The mods are trying to clean the board up, but with a heavy emphasis on the pro AoC posts.

You should probably read the forum rules.  Most forums have strict rules about questioning moderation.  This goes for fansites as well.  Basically, moderation should be complained about to the moderators.  I'm not surprised you got your thread deleted.

Listen dude, I understand what your saying I REALLY do. No your not the only one who gets censored from AoC official forums, There are at a minimum 10 post a week here on MMORPG.com with just about the same lines as you just posted.

What the hell did you think was going to happen. I understood the point of your aoc-o post I really did. You were wondering why in a time like this, when AoC is in as much trouble as it's in would they further hurt themselves by pissing off what players it does have left with censorship. In turn for asking this you got warned. Then when asked why you got warned again.

Ok I get it, Most sane people will "get it".

Here on MMORPG.com, your better off just letting it go. Though the mods here are a little more lenient on these matters, it's probably best not to push your luck. The AoC fanboi train is chugging along on MMORPG like nobodies business and all your going to find here is a wall to smack your face into.

You should be able to tell already by the sheeple responses you have received already.

You did something wrong, you provoked it, you did something against the rules... blah blah your gonna hear it all here. Don't get it twisted in your mind, your not going to gain sympathy in these boards. These are some of the most ruthless cutthroats I have ever had the honor to post with. It gets me all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

But seriously though, You didn't do anything wrong, the thousands of players who hit the door right behind you all know you didn't do anything wrong. Funcom just do not like to be asked questions regarding their spectacular game.

So like I said, have a coke and a smile, and let's just talk about something somewhere else on some other post, I'm sure we can find tons of things to talk about OUT of the AoC boards.

Words of wisdom my friend ;)

The rules for AoC's forum regarding moderation are really for specific moderation purposes, like why did the moderator specifically delete such and such of a post, why did they lock a post, etc etc. The thread you started was perfectly acceptable, since it was asking a legimitate question on the entire system of moderation. As you can see, AoC's forums are strictly monitered and even a post remotely alluding to moderation will be deleted.

And yes you will not get any sympathy on these boards. MMORPG.com's forums are some of the most ruthless and brutal forums on the net, prepare to be quoted and sometimes, to be shredded. I have a couple battlescars of my own, and I'm not even that confrontational.

I disagree. These boards, like any can be rough, but they moderate pretty well. All the warnings I've gotten I deserved, except one ban (which got lifted 5 minutes after I emailed them).

The AoC forums, until Lufkin and the other volunteers started, were truly brutal. Some of the crap I saw on there was crazy! Remember that guy who posted his "I quit" thread as a story about beating and raping an underage girl? It was sick! That thread lasted for about 5 pages I think.

The MMORPG forums are pretty tame in comparison to some boards, believe me.
