I've been hearing of a new MMO that SE is making using the final fantasy crystal graphic thingy being called Rapture or whatever... eh... Anyway, what is the chance it is another Final Fantasy MMO? Also, with the PS3 out, will Final Fantasy make the jump from PS2 to PS3 with a new expansion pack or something? Or will it remain on the PS2? Anyway... I'm just curious, so post your thoughts.

FFXI will not be moving perse to the PS3. You can play your PS2 version of the game on PS3 already though. To make an update that would force people to move from the PS2 to the PS3 would alienate a number of people and basically force them to drop the game or drop $400+ on a new console that they might not want. That wouldn't be fair to the PS2 people. Plus add the extra cost of upgrading FFXI to the PS3 type graphics and such. It is smarter just to work on the next gen title which is what they are doing.
Personally, I think that the Rapture project is either another Final Fantasy MMO (70%) or a Dragon Quest MMO (20%).
I highly doubt that FFXI will make the jump from PS2 to PS3. It is possible for nearly half of all FFXI players to be playing in PS2 - the platform is especially prominent in Japan. I think that FFXI has kept its limits within the PS2 all this time possibly because it does not want to risk losing part of maybe 250,000 subscribers.
K, thanks for the info.
Funny you ask for ps3 FFXI...
sony seem to lost Square Enix's right in almost every title now. In most case, you won't even see the next Square Enix game release for ps3.
One failure of Sony in their ps3 is that they never consider that game developers will not put in large amount of resources into develop game for their system as of yet. Since making those games require an upgrade in cost, i guess Square Enix didn't want to brother hence they let FFXIII goes to xbox360. In my option, it should go to WII... those who buy xbox aren't really RPG players (just look at the sales rate of blue dragon...)
And don't worry about "new" MMORPG by Square Enix, in most cases, they will suck so much that you won't even play. a Game release by SE doesn't mean its "world best"... it still can be crap...
Just FYI, ever since FFXI releases, SE had released a few MMORPG titles.
Front mission Online (let's just call it a MMORPG ok?)
Concrete Gate 1 and 2 (2 different MMO)
Fantasy Earth zero Online ( MMORPG)
and i think they also helped Neo steam (not sure)
none
Wow, glad the ignorant fanboy could come out of the wood-work to spew an uninformed, useless, insecurity-driven opinion.
Sony didn't lose any products from Square, they just lost the exclusivity. FFXIII is coming out for BOTH PS3 and the xbox360 and they are being released on the same day. You're whole developers don't want to spend the money to develop for PS3 argument is completely unadulterated bullshit at this point. Why don't you try learning to read and use google before posting.
Is the loss of exclusive titles a hit for Sony? absolutely, but Square has not abandoned the platform in any sense of the word.
Anyway, back on topic:
Square has confirmed a new MMO, and they have specifically said that it will not be a Final Fantasy game.
Rather than that, there have been some forged pictures released (they aren't real, there is a lot of proof of this), and it is expected to be a multi-platform game (like FFXI), and that it will be using their crystal tools engine.
There has been other commentary saying that which platforms it will be available for is still up for debate.
Actually.... in a recent article on 1up theyve talked about how a lot of the ffxiii related games will be ps3 exclusive, and in the ffxiii trailer itself it says for ps3 only in japan which is interesting. I for one am very interested in what it is they are making, i would LOVE EQ to EQ2 esque update, but i highly doubt it. Also, i dont want to post anything regarding it until i know for sure, why even bother with speculation?
-The only sure thing about the future is uncertainty
Just because it was made by Square Enix doesn't mean it's most likely crap. No one ever said anything about World's Best either..
