Enchanters can charm, but not just animals, and not for an extended amount of time.

Maybe EQ2 will be nice enough to put animal taming in the first expansion.  There's just nothing like taming your first dragonimage

there are a few screenshots on the site with animals next to the characters...so you never know. here is a link to one such screenshot, bottom row 3rd one over. either a human/and or elf with a wolf standing by his side. and i think there are a few more like this around the screenshots, with different races. cant be certain if they are tamed, summoned, or what though, but they seem to be pets.

EDIT: forgot the link, here it is http://everquest2.station.sony.com/#mediaScreenshots the pic is on page 5

Thetas cool. I wondered why they would not have any animal taming in the game, when they have such a lush animal life.... It would be a cool option to open up a butcher shop for heroes to heal..Or a stable with mounts you can ride but i  can dream

The picture of the guy in armour with the wolf looks more like city guard to me.

EQL never had animal taming in although some could charm animal (druid I think) for a period of time, and shamans could summon a wolf pet and beastlords could summon an animal pet varying with race, tiger (var shir), aligator (troll), wolf (barbarian), cant remembe what ogres got looked like a dinasour dog thing

Besides if you want a companion just play a pet class, summoner or necro.

i was a 65 druid on saryrn server, druids get dire charm, which charms the animal for good. until it dies or you zone of course. enchanters had the same thing which worked on most things. so it wasnt always just limited time. i could charm one animal and use it as a pet all day if i wanted, it was a great way to solo, especially because we had a version of complete heal. but i dont think anything like this will happen in EQ2 due to balancing issues, but maybe there will still be some sort of pets, but im sure they will be limited in strength.
