Vanguard:  Saga of Heroes video (click to watch)

All in-game options enabled & maxed, and 4x AA forced on in the driver control panel, though I don't know if the anti-aliasing affects the game or not.  This is a sight-seeing video ONLY.  No fighting, and no extra annoying music.

edit:  Correction, atmospheric distortion is disabled.  It annoyed me because it looks like the world through the eyes of someone who's missing their glasses (I should know!).

I've been enjoying my new Radeon 4850.  So far it runs Vanguard silk smooth at an average 30 FPS, with 20 FPS being on the low end.  I did have one technical problem while on the beta drivers that brought FPS down to a mere 8, but hopefully that won't be an issue in the release drivers tat I'm running now (WHQL version of CCC v8.7).

Last night I intended to make a quick 30 second video to test Avivo's transcoding, but I was really impressed by the night time beauty of the area that I found my character in.

A sort of "soft blur" to the entire video is the result of compressing the original 7 GB of data. The colors are also not at all as crisp as they are "live". In other words, this doesn't hold a candle to the real thing.

Original videos were recorded in 1680x1050. This compilation video was created using Windows Movie Maker and selecting the 1080p HD option (which is obviously not HD as we can see here, but I don't know of a program that will make actual HD videos).

GameVee seems to have squished the original wide screen format into a 4:3 box, so it looks a touch off.  I really need to find a better service & software, but YouTube came out 10 times worse and Vimeo no longer allows game videos on their site.  Figures

Emphasis was placed on the morning dawn at the end of the video, especially after someone told me about the /setfog command.

Just to clearify, there is NO fighting or such in this video.  It is a quick spur-of-the-moment sight seeing vid ONLY.

Laters.

Cool vid.  I just picked up a 4850 and plan on trying Vanguard soon.  Very cool.

    Life is good.

Too bad the very nice environment details and graphical additions are completely ruined by the godawful character design and animations, not to mention the lack of proper system optimization. I think that the game has a lot going for it, though. A lot of bad choices and implementations have prevented it from becoming a truly great game (*cough* SOE *cough*) - I hope that it can really shine sometime soon. The vet. trial made me believe again!

Nice video, by far not the best areas in Vanguard.

Try Trengal Keep or Hilsbury Manor on Thestra, awesome looking buildings and environments!

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Nice vid, but I agree with the poster above. Why did you just film 'generic Thestra' ? (Is that the Deebs?)

I can think of so many locations where you just stop what your'e doing and say "Wow!" to a view that's just opened up before you.

I must FRAPS some places I love myself to show how IMO the artwork in VG is simply the best in any game I've seen to date.

It's where I happened to be when I popped in to grab the quick test video and ended up with 10 or so short vids instead.  Then there was the sunrise over the hill.. when I saw all of the videos that I had grabbed with fraps I figured, why not?

Certainly though, there are going to be better locations to catch videos and screen shots of.  I can always try to get to these other locations, but I'm not familiar with the game so I don't know where they're at.  My character's only level 20 as well, so I won't be able to get into any dangerous locations.. heh heh.

@ DrChicken : About the animations, I wholeheartedly agree.  When I heard that they're making new models I thought that this meant they were fixing the animations, but I guess not.  Epic disappointment right there.  I've always been the type who focuses on landscapes rather than people, though.

@ s_nova4 : Depending on your gaming resolution I'm thinking that you're going to like the 4850.  So far it comfortably does 4X AA in 1680x1050.  Mass Effect looks like it should, Vanguard runs smooth, "FEAR" multi player runs great.  I still need to try EQ2 (if it ever finishes patching).  To be honest though I don't think the card's intended to go above that resolution.

A very nice /set fog command ..to write down (for VG)

    /setfog 200000, 400000, 120, 120, 240

Make a macro of that by right clicking any empty hotbar slot, type the command in the title then retype the same command (with the slash) in the empty field below.    Put a check mark in the text only field and hit okay.

Remember that this command does not stick, every time you log back in you need to hit the macro, but it does emphasize the colours and beauty of the world of Vanguard. :)
