I have made threads about the graphics of a number of games. Character graphics and animations are very important to me even more then enviroments. That is one reason I like EQ2 over both WoW and LoTRO. I love the character look of EQ2. Well I just started AoC and I love it. Here is a shot of my first character. AoC has both great character and enviroment graphics. This is shot is not at maxed graphics it is a mix of medium and high settings and it still looks fantastic I get 45 to 60 fps with this look.

what are your system specs? i am pretty confused, because i have a "close" to top end computer and if i put it on shader model 3.0 (and my gfx card supports 4.0!) it drops fps to uplayable, and i can barely have it set to medium on shader model 2.0 and get good fps. (i get around 60 if i leave it on medium, no shadows)

    That's awesome.

I have a good system but far from a top gaming rig. I have my shadows on high. I also use shader 3.0 and Texture rez is high. Anti-aliasing is set to only +4 when i have it set to +16 I lose about 5 fps.

AMd athlon 64 x2 dual core 6000+ processor

    Nividia GeForce 8800 gt oc

    3 gigs ram

36 inch sharp aqua monitor (I play at 1920x1080 rez)

something's not right there, man. I use shader model 3.0 on an old X1650 AGP, and get 30 FPS average at med-high settings.

Have you tried different drivers? Used drivercleaner or a similar program in safe mode to eliminate conflicts?

OP: I really like the looks of your character...very well designed, and realistic, IMO. Don't you just LOVE the character creation system?

Sounds like you're using an ATI card. If you are, than that's your problem.

I certainly don't want to start some serious debate or whatever, but I'm curious why a Christian would even play this game. Violence, language, sex and sexism against women (not that I have any problem with these things). Don't you guys usually rail against these types of entertainment?

I agree on the ATI card point.

Good screenie OP, but I don't remember REH writing about Kenny Rogers..?

that all AoC has to offer is graphics. and you better get used to that look because your gear isnt going to change much at all. then around 75 you will get the final sets that look like they should be level 30 stuff.

You say that you are a good Christian but do you know what you have chosen as an avatar?

    You just don't compute.

    <You just... condoned sexism? >

And damn, those look great. Even with the slightly 'plasticy' feel, AoC really does shine in the graphics department. It's gorgeous.

so because I'm christian I can't play in a world with violence, (explicit) language, sex and sexism? that's news to me since there are still Christian people in the REAL world.

Just to clear up a couple things:

    1) @ Amalaric: I am not a Christian, in any way. I said I don't have a problem with the sex, violence, etc. No, i don't, no religious compunction to.

    2) I am not hating on anyone's religion, I was just wondering why someone with Jesus and bible quotes on their Avatar would play AoC. It isn't exactly a "Family Values" type game. that's all.
