While we are on the top 5 kick, how about top 5 MMORPG Moments. Those times or events that just stick in your head and keep you coming back and buying every MMO to hit the shelf.
1. SWG - Pretty much the whole first couple months of the game. But the moment that sticks out the most was opening up my weapon shop south of Coronet, undercutting the Master Weaponsmith market, and having people camp out at my store waiting for me to fill up my vendor with different guns. The whole economy and crafting was awesome. (Also fun was placing mines in front of my store and blowing up Imperials that would come strolling by to my store.)
2. Multi-Galaxy Drop - Planetside - What an awesome game in the first few months after release. I remember my first week, not really sure what to do, joined an outfit and we organized a multiple gal drop on a contested base, jumping out of that ship with 30 other players and taking a base was simply awesome and something I won't forget.
3. Exploring Middle Earth - LOTRO - Playing this game, with the atmosphere, music, visuals, really puts you in the world of Tolkien, and as a huge LOTR fan it was amazing to see all of these areas come to life in a fun story-based game.
4. First Molten Core Raid - WoW - lot of wiping, lot of arguing, lot of working together, but taking down a boss with 39 other guildies was pretty fun.
5. First Beheading - AoC - ya ya, everyone is on the AoC hate train at the moment but taking out my sword and taking someone's head off with those graphics, something I had no idea was in the game, was awesome. I remember dropping my jaw and saying "Holy Shit."
I never played EQ, UO, DAOC - so I'm guessing some of you will have moments from those games in your list.

One of mine would be when i was doing deser treasue in runescape, all my freinds told me it was hard and stuff...so i was a little scared. It was really fun killing all the bosses and stuff and then dieng 2 minutes after because of the wolfs or poison...Good times
Fun topic!
1. Filling up my backpack with so much ore in Ultima Online that I couldn't walk.
2. Selling jade bracelets in Everquest's Greater Feydark with the line 'How many times would you have lived if you had 10 more mana? Electrum Jade Bracelets 2 plats.'
3. Trading a Green Jade Broadsword for a FBSS to give to my friend, Riak the Dwarven paladin.
4. Soloing Uldaman in WoW to find out that I couldn't finish the dungeon without two more players.
5. Making a dragon in Horizons.
Lol @ #1.
I remember building a house, next to the mountains and I could mine ore while in the protection of my house then smelt it. (The bugs you could exploit) Lol
Top 5?
1. Getting accepted for the ALPHA test for Ultima Online... (We're going WAYYY back!)
2. Playing Utima Online for 5 years, meeting Lord British... (That's up there with #1)
3. Remembering when you had to pay for Shadowbane... when it was first out, watching a group of people go at each other, killing one another... then when they were done, I ran up and killed every single one resting... That was so mean.
4. Running for hours while having griefers (The ones I killed above) chase me all over... that was fun!
5. Getting EQ2 to finally run on ultra high detail with 90fps.
1. SWG - Pressing the jump key at some random moment going over a hill, my char got stuck in a tree. For 15 mins entire party cracks up laughing at some of the worst tree puns in history, eg guess I'll log, no don't leaf, haven't you twigged, I'm rooted to the spot etc etc.
2. World of Warcraft - My first character hit level 70 whilst leading a cow as part of a quest. 70 levels of struggling grind to end up with a bovine. Hardly the most exciting boast of the game but we didn't half laugh. Friends still remind me of it even now, no matter what the MMORPG I'm in.
3. Pirates of the Burning Sea - Red Tide quest - I didn't know at the time it should be done as a group, near wet my pants when I saw the number of ships heading towards me.
4. Eve Online - The first day I had enough skill points to pilot and enough money to buy a Battleship. Awesome moment.
5. City of Heroes - Gaining the flight power for the first time. Wheeeeeeeee
Ultimately, though, it's a strong community that keeps me coming back for more
1, Ultima online - when i first brought regs
2, Ultima Online - my first ever duel back in the day
3, Ultima Online - my house near brit gate fel
4, Ultima Online - bucs den running riot
5, Ultima Online - when factions began
ive played alot of mmo's almost all of them and the only game thats really sat in my memory is ultima online, i talk about it with a friend most days i just wish a game could pull me in like this game once did untill it died along time ago, im afraid i dont think anything will come close to this game in general in the forseeable future.
Here's one I just remembered... God there's so many good times in Ultima Online.
When you COULD cast spells in town... I remember having a line of about 8 people... all standing in a row and having two people cast "Chain Lightning"... the guards and the spells and everything happeneing at once broke the server... it was classic chaos! The whole screen just froze while the guards "poofed" and tons of people just died. OH GOD that was funny.
*Sigh* UO was so much fun...
*In Ex Por* OH SHIT! RUN! PKER!
Oh, I'll play along here... some of my answers will prolly be atypical.
1) Planetside. Max crash.
The first time I played this game, I remember I was teeming with excitement. I got recruited to an amazing outfit early on (Blood of the Spider, on the Johari server). I remember the Galaxy drops being so intense that I actually got an adrenaline rush. But for me, the most exciting moment I ever had was my first MAX crash. I played on the Terran Republic team, and I'll never forget when 25 of us suited up in Dual Cyclers and Pounders, and proceeded to just conquer Amerish. Planetside, to date, was the most fun and excitement I ever had in an MMORPG at release. I really, truly hope SOE makes a Planetside 2 some day, because with the technology available nowadays, it could really shine!
2) Star Wars Galaxies. Imperial Raid on Corneria
My time with Star Wars Galaxies was a mixed bag. I loved many aspects of it, but there were also a huge number of problems. For example, I was one of the first Commandos on the server of Shadowfire... and we didn't have weapons, save for the limited use ones from the Darth Vader quest. However... I remember when we got our guns, and we could destroy anyone and anything.
I remember I joined up with a guild, led by Jacyn, and we all went to go raise hell at (if my memory serves me correct) Corneria, the rebel city. We killed people there for an hour, and it was some of the most intense fighting. When we finally all died, I remembered seeing a force of Rebels standing over my body, and thinking to myself "Wow... we just caused that much of an uproar. Awesome"
3) Final Fantasy 11. Twinkling Treant Event
I'll never forget Final Fantasy 11, as I played it longer than any other MMO to date. But my favorite moment was the server-wide Twinkling Treant. Watching hordes of players of all levels running up to these creatures, getting in a few swings, and then dying and running back in for some more. Just talking about it makes me miss my linkshell, my old friends, and the game itself. It was also the first game where I felt social interaction was a core part of the game, and I loved that.
4) City of Heroes. Building my character.
Never had I played a game with so many customization options. I loved that I could run around, and never see my twin in the game (save for weaponry, of course). I liked reading player's Biographies, and really seeing the creative minds of the world at work. Plus, I thought the idea of them creating a comic book based on characters from within the game was one of the coolest, fan-appreciation gestures I've ever seen from a company.
5) Everquest 2. Leading the pack.
Everquest 2 was one of the first games where I legitimately was allowed to sit on my ass 10+ hours a day to play. I was sick as a dog with the flu, so I couldn't sleep, or do much else. I remember being absolutely haggard in real life. So I decided to give this game a try whilst being miserable.
I played so much, that I was the first Berserker on my server by Day number 2 (Blackburrow server), and for the first time in ages, the highest level player on my server for a few days. I don't know why that mattered to me so much, but I suppose it was just memorable because of how sick I was, and how cool it felt to know that I was at the top of the food chain for once.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
rofl my first molten core raid was enough to prove to me that pvp>pve. You hit the nail on the head 39 people arguing, wiping, and wasting 8 hours of my life, one raid at a time.
Best wow moment: First time ganking a lowbie in STV

Top 5 MMORPG moments:
1) Everquest: First time guild raid on PoF, start at 7am PST, got wiped and need to get corpses back, wiped couple more times. Finally can "get in" PoF and killed first mob at 11pm, finish the raid at 5am next day without killing the boss. Yup, thats 22 hours non stop.
2) Everquest: Played 3 days straight minus the getting the instant noodles, bio times.....it just too addictive to stop when I first got it.
3) Everquest: Camped Jboot for 18 hours (thats short for the camp) and finally got it at 8:12pm. Yup, still remembert the time cause I was like ZOMGWTFBBQ!
4) Everquest: As a necro, I can charm undead. So I charmed a spectre in Oasis and bring to the dock. Everyone was scaried but I told them he is just my pet. So everyone thinks is ok and sit around me and rest(rest in EQ in low level is open spellbook, so the player cannot see btw). Then I feign dead, break the charm and killed everyone, lol.
5) City of heroes/villains: Got the travel power the first time, WOW I jump suppppperrr high !
Anarchy Online - Devs decided to nerf jumping so you couldnt bypass Shadowlands terrain. Players demonstrated (mass cancels), jump nerf rescinded 2 days later.
1. Planetside!- Formed a raid on Markov with about 40 people...so many tanks/planes we owned all in our path! I will never forget this game in fact my sub just ran out 2 hrs ago :-(. Game still is amazing despite the somewhat low pops. I still see some red alerts.
2. SWG- I know it was not amazing, but i loved it when the old man showed up out of nowhere for the jedi chain quest.
3. Ultima Online- Simply because this is where it all began for me. I remember owning my first boat...getting my first house....i was so addicted. Taming mounts....
4. WoW- Doing UBRS for the first time and getting my lightforge shoulders....i thought i was such a badass.
5. Planetside- Again it's on here...I remember running with surge and a boomer into a TR tower spawn and getting 8 kills with 1 boomer.
Uhh... what?
Hmmm this is in no order, but just 5 events I liked.
1. WoW - BWL, Val. Everyone was dead except a paladin with a bubble 1% , did hammer of wrath for the kill.
2. PlanetSide - Gal drops, anyone of them they were all great. I remember when we filled up 3 Gals and dropped on the base, took our positions and capped it. Great times... I might resub, any idea how the game is going?
3. L2 - Massive amount of players for the Land Dragon raid... oh god the horror lol. Good times.
4. PlanetSide - When we did Outfit Island, we would go into an enemy controlled zone and find an island with one tower, hold it for the entire night. Gal drops, MAXes, Reavers, and Libs everywhere! Even a few BFRs.
Game is doing good, I resub all the time...Still enough of a Pop since they merged ALL the servers to get some decent fights going. If you enjoyed it back then it will be a breath of fresh air from the WoW/AoC whatever it is your playing.
Uhh... what?
1. EQ - way back when game first started and boats were hella buggy. Zoned on a boat, then had lag in load time, and rezoned into the air watching boat sail away. I end up falling in the water, and eventually drown.
I come back, try to find my body again, and no chance, and died again - petitioned a gm. who appeared in just a couple of minutes and went and got my body, and teleported me,my corpse and himself to an island out in the ocean. My body ended up being in the one of the deepest parts of the ocean floor. At that time a same named pirated spawned and killed me in 0.0000000001 sec, and proceded to beat down on the GM, who started to lose health.(must have been a new gm, and didn't know how to use his uber powers. Just when i thought he was going to die, another GM appeared and instakilled the mob, and teleported us all including my 2 corpses to freeport docks.
2. EQ - Naming my human shadowknight Hytler to get around naming filter, so when anyone hailed me it appeared " Hail Hytler " .
After about 10min hailing just out of range of freeport city gate, I get a tell from a GM telling me to delete my char and choose another name. To make a long story short, I tried defending my name choice, and he ended up teleporting me into a few different Raid zones killing me to teach me a lesson, and even brought me to his own "other dimension" place that he has, and killed me some more. lol.
3. DAoC - wiping horribly on first dragon raid attempt, with 50ish players( we didn't even get to see it, got strafed from the air by dragon breath)
Then coming back with 250 ish players(246 is the number i remember) and wiping again ).... then mythic decided dragons were too powerful and were downgraded a bit. A few weeks after that, the first dragon went down.
4. DAoC - first Zerg Vs Zerg clash, it was epic.. (im talkin 200+ players each side) Hope we see something similiar in warhammer online.
5. SWG - Rebel / Imperial pvp fights on tatooine
Does anyone know how to make a mmoRPG anymore?
In no particular order
1. Seeing my Jedi finally unlock in SWG
2. All the RvR raids when my realm came together against all odds and won in DaoC
3. Any raid in EQ2 where your guild has been trying and trying to beat a zone, and then that magic moment when you do.
4, In SWG NGE, changed my jedi to a spy and for a month being the top spy in pvp on the server. (bria ftw)
5. The first time I went online in an mmo (phantasy star online for the dreamcast) and meeting people from all around the world.
i started playing UO in july of 2000 on chesapeake up until AOS came out so thats where my favorite moments are of any mmo ive played.
1. big guild fights against pks outside of destard in UO.
2. watching newbs in trammel get killed by multiple liches and looting there silver vanq broadswords when they couldnt make it back to there body in time! that was the only reason i went to trammel.
3. waiting for hours for a house to fall and when it finally did a gate would open and pks would pour out and pretty much slaughter everyone there...lol good times
4. first time being shown UO by my friend and he made me a character and starting out in moonglow and i remember finding a silver staff and thinkin i was the shit..lol
5. i have many good memorys playing on my old thief and good items!
gamertag - Swaffle House
1. Everquest: getting halfway through writing "Who's Dorn and what does 'to zone' mean?" before getting killed by Dorn B'Dynn in North Ro.
2. Everquest: selling my first backpack, for something like 170 gold (they typically went for 50 or so, I think). I had never had more than 5 gold before, and just got really lucky with making the backpack from my first drop from those beloved grey bears - with less than 40 skill in Tailoring. Worked the market a bit over the next few weeks and never needed to worry about money again.
3. Anarchy Online: hearing the news that the summit between Omni-Tek and Clan leaders to join forces against the Dust Brigade had ended with a Dust Brigade squad entering and gunning down everybody, then proceeding to hunt down those leaders not present but logged in. The Dust Brigade events are probably my favourite live-acted (GMs and volunteers) story elements in any MMOG.
4. World of Warcraft: finding Hurricane as a world drop just after my Hunter hit level 50 in the early days. As if levelling a Hunter wasn't easy enough already.
5. Age of Conan: like haloth posted, the fatality moves made me go "Whoa!" One of them - using my one-handed blunt weapon to strike a female character in the face or stomach to have her drop to her knees, then whack her 2-3 times over the head (blood everywhere) before she finally fell to the ground - had me go "uhm... ok, that's a bit sickening" too.
Edit: colours and link.
I think I may have fought alongside or against you in that battle. It was intense.
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
#1 First day playing DAOC , I ventured to the fontier gate in Albion, I remember there were hundreds of peeps rolling out basically in a marching line. Keep in mind I was a complete noob, I followed them , To a nearby keep battle as I approached I was cut down by hundreds of arrows , I was hooked
#2) Just about any Pre-cu battle on bloodfin .

I remember when I got to the JBoot camp in Najena. This was probably a month after release. Everyone knew that you had sto wait on a particualry tile on the floor to get the named monster to spawn, and then it was just luck (like 1 in 3) that you get the Jboots after that. It probably only took me 3 hours, I think I was 3rd of 4th in line. I am sure I died a couple of times trying to get in and get out, though.
That's one thing I miss about MMO's. All these people say PVE is so easy. It wasn't so damned easy when you lost 10% of a level and had to work your way back to your corpse with no gear and no spells every time you died.

corpse run is pain also the 10% of your level when the exp can make you lost a level . I can't remember how many times I went back to lv59 from lv60 in EQ
Ehh, there is only one really great moment I can think of, which happened recently in WoW. I was doing a weekly heroic with my guild as the tank (im normally retribution), and at one point, I was marking up a mob of four when the boomkin in the group tells me he's gonna go Chuck Norris on their ass lol. We didnt wipe, but it was funny watching a boomkin tanking enemies, and funnier with me stuck whacking them with a weak sword lol. Of course just after that, chuck norris jokes were being thrown out all around lol
If it was just a pug, I'd of kicked the boomkin out, but since it was just me and some of the guildies, it was perfectly fine for me just because we are all laid back.
