Flight in in new expansion

erikk3189erikk3189 Member Posts: 306

Hey, guys,

Regarding the new expansion I have read many different things that will happen once it starts. One of them is you can't use flight until you hit 68 or 70. We can speculate and guess 'til the game arrives but, does anyone know what the truth is to this?

Also,  I see where the word "rune" comes into play a lot with the new class.  What exactly is "rune' when it comes to the new class?

If the rule about needing to hit level 68-70 in order to use flight mounts is true I think it's not a good idea. Why should we have to wait when we've been thru' this in BC?  I read where some said Blizz wants us to fully explore the lands they've worked so hard to make.

Again, this is dumb.  We can fully explore every inch of the lands once we're there.  Neither  the lands nor us are going anywhere. They will be there so a very long time to come. Also we don't need to be on foot to explore the zones.

Thanks for your input.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

You've hit the problem with flying mounts. Also, it diminishes world PvP when people can fly away and laugh at you if they're losing. But that point aside, in Northrend you actually can't fly until I believe 77. That's to, as you said, make sure we "explore the land" and apparently it's much easier on a 100% speed mount than a 280% netherdrake. But, we'll have to magically stop using our flying mounts for about 7 levels once we get there. Level 68 is for druids and 70 is for everyone else, but that's only for Outland.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I'm not understanding the OP, maybe it's just early in the morning.  Flying mounts, as opposed to birds you pay for rides on, are a level 70 thing in BC (level 68 for druids?).  So how is this limitation relevant to the new areas which will be intended for 70-80?  As far as the decision to restrict flying mounts to the Outlands, it makes perfect sense to me, keeps the starting areas from becoming a total zoo with no sense of unique atmosphere, as well as probably helping  to keep lag under control.

In Wrath, flying mounts won't be usable until around level 77, when you can get a quest to unlock it. Currently, it's not in the beta, so no one has any real solid information. One thing that will be new to Wrath for flying mounts is that you can fight in the air with them against the other faction. So airborne PvP will be available.

As for runes, think of them as kind of like a warrior's rage bar. You add runes to yourself, technically your weapon, as you cast spells instead of hitting with your weapon or being hit, but it feels the same. Frost spells add frost runes, blood spells add blood runes, unholy spells add unholy runes. As you get to a certain point, you can use a spell that costs a certain number of runes. Your rune bar can hold 100 runes.

So far, the Death Knight class is a hit with players. The storyline, quests, and the feel of the class works very well so far. Scaleability will be interesting to watch, but I've enjoyed my first few levels.

Outside of DK, it's pretty much the same old routine in WoW. There are new factions, new mobs, and new instances, but the grind is that same. If you enjoyed BC when it came out, you'll love Wrath even more so. It's definitely tighter then BC for content and storyline. The land is much more like Azeroth too, so if has a very familiar feel.

My main excitement for Wrath is the new 10 man cap for endgame that's available. Since the current cap in beta is only 77, we can't try it out yet. If this works though, it will keep me in WoW for another year or two easy, so they will keep getting my money. Guess that's the idea. ;-)

As a tester, I can honestly say I cannot use my flying mount in northrend yet.  And not even sure if we can at all.  I have been too busy on my DK.

As for "Rune."  Runes are used by Death Knights, Referred as DK.  A DK does not use Mana, or energy to attack, they use Runes.  Each DK has 6 runes, 2 Blood, 2 Unholy, and 2 Frost.  They regenerate every x seconds I'm not sure because I have talents that increase the generation.  Each attack has a specified rune it uses.  Such as Blood strike uses 1 Blood Rune.  Plague Strike uses a Blood and an Unholy rune.  Each time you successfully attack an enemy you generate Rune Power.  Which looks like mana, but isnt.  Rune power is used by some talents, and by some abilities such as Death Coil.  Death coil does not use a rune, but rune power instead.  Thats all there is to it.

As for 68~70 thing...You cannot use a flying mount at all until you are 70 in BC period...so I don't know what you are talking about.

However, there is a glitch right now that allows druids to use flight form in certain parts of Northrend.  I watch every time I see one.  Especially when they try to fly over a Ravine to get across quickly.  They get halfway, and the glitch ends, kicks them back into druid form, and they fall to their death. >:D!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read my above post about Runes please Calmyron.  Runes do not "accumulate" like a warriors rage bar.  That would be Rune power.

You do not "add" runes to you al all.  You have 2 sets of each Blood, Unholy, and Frost runes you use.  And they have a cooldown to them.  Once used, you cannot attack until they reset.   Blood spells take away blood runes.  Unholy takes away Unhold.  Frost takes away Frost.  Some take 1 blood 1 unholy, some take away 1 blood and 1 frost, there are many that combo like that.

Rune POWER is like a warriors rage bar, but is used by only a few abilities/talents, such as Death Coil and the summoned Rune Blade @ 51 talents into blood.

As for adding runes to your Weapon, its not simply adding any runes to your weapon.  You get a spell called Rune Forging.  Which allows you to put a rune buff onto your weapon.  There is around 6 rune spells you can put on your weapon and each does something different.  You can only have 1 on at a time, and it does not stack with enchants.  However, I find it they are better than enchants.  And it requires you to be at a Rune Forge to do so, you cannot do it just anywhere.

A simple explanation for get ANOTHER mount in the new continent must be that you can't pass the dark portal with your mount, since it is already impossible you will need a proper flying mount in the new continent. It's a shame that Blizzard don't implemented NEW kind of flying mounts in WoTLK, using the netherdrakes as "normal" fliyng mounts will make then common :/ ( with the armor or not ).

    2. Flying mounts

    * Current plans are to unlock the flying mount again either through a quest or trainer at level 77.

    * Flying mounts will still be usable in Outland. Flying mounts from Outland will be usable in Northrend, once unlocked.

    * There are no plans to increase the riding skill cap. There are also no plans to reduce the cost of the flying mounts.

    * There may be a slight increase in speed for Wrath-specific mounts, and they also (not finalized) may have the ability to carry player passengers!

Bah ... no point in increase the Lv cap to flying mounts ... Blizzard IS running out of innovations and its painting with crap the history of the "world". Imo my excuse to get other mounts were better :/
