I quit playing WoW in the summer of 05', yesterday I reactivated my old account and started playing around with my mid level toons. The old areas were a ghost town...I mean I saw tumbleweeds at one point. Is everyone 70 in this game now?

I dunno, i never have a hard time finding another person to group with, but yes most ppl are high lvls, in outlands, and BG/Arena. Look there ans Shattrath city you find ppl.
Depending on what class your playing, it doesn't take long to get to 60 anymore I started a priest the other day and I'm already 41.
Yeah, i may just have to adjust if I want to keep playing. Back when I played there were 100s of people running around everywhere, but that was 3 years ago lol.
No the WOW population is dwindling fast, most people are playing AOC and other games. WOW is 5 years old and its becoming outdated really fast, people are tired of the same thing over an over and Wrath of the Lion King will be more of the same boring stuff.
1. Race to see who can get to 80 first ( that will happen in like 1 or 2 days)
2. Back to the same old grind.
3. Wait another 3 years for yet another boring expansion. (this is how Sony duped EQ players into staying around)
4. Epic mounts that cost 1000g to train and 10,000g for the mount.
If you want something new, something fun, something exciting (fatalities rock) play AOC.
WoW is not 5 years old, it launched in the US in november (or december?) 2004, so it is not even 4 years old yet. In Europe it launched in february 2005.
My server is starting to be a ghost town. Sure there are a few Raiding guilds running Sunwell, and a few random Kara Badge PUGS, but I rarely see many people running around anywhere but Capital cities.
If I bump into someone doing a Daily, I'm in shock.
I know that when WOTLK comes out, my server will be alive again. The same thing happened before TBC.
Thats what I meant. I see people in the capitals but almost nowhere else. I just assumed that my whole old server pop. was raiding TBC stuff.

WOW is dead bro, and when Wrath of the Lion King releases it will be even worse. Sure people will come back and play for the expansion and within a month or 2 everything will be ghost again.

Don't make me laugh.

Lol Comic Con?
"What is it that the gamers want from these games and why is it not given to them? We were playing these games ourselves, that's why we know it was not being done. So we moved in the opposite direction. We thought about what the users wanted, what we wanted, and why it wasn't happening and how it could happen." - Tasos Flambouras
Yeah, BC did a lot to further the game but it did sort of strangle the old world content to death. The next expansion should help to undo the death sentence though and give people a reason to mess around in Azeroth again.
Tbh, this may be just your server. The server i mostly play on AggramarEU has a considerably high population and most areas are quite alive. Qual'Danos is packed with players doing dailies its actually difficult at times trying to complete your quests since theres so many doing the same thing.
I also level up alts on various servers and both show a good level of populated areas, mostly major areas such as Crossroads/STV/Westfall/hillsbrad/redridge mountain/Tanaris ect. However there are the odd areas that no one really goes to but thats merely because its a horrible place to go to and most players try to avoid it ... im talking about places like Desolace.
I suggest you try and look at another server if you think its that bad.
As for the "WoW is dead" Oracles, 10 million strong subs? .... uhhmmm new expansion pack will most likely bring old players back and also attract new players especially fans of lore since we are talking about a major part of the story...THE LICH KING. However i do agree on one factor, some areas are going to be desolate and will be missed such as black rock mountain. This was the zone of zones, awesome instances and some PVP if you wanted. Hopefully WoW will bring life back to old content in Azeroth as they promised but right now its all about Northrend folks see you there!
No use to answer this one.
He's a new poster just trying to troll and of course succeding. Hence his BIG ugly GREEN postings.
I already said that the leveling areas on my 2 servers are far more FULL than 2 years ago.
And it even can be proven. Take the stats of two years ago (warcraftrealms.com) and the Wow population was at 75 % of present day populations ... and only a few TBC servers were created since that period.
I was surprised how much comptetion I had when leveling a new character these days. Far more than 2 years ago. On prime time you have sometimes MORE players than NPC's in certain areas.
Take the pre-dead mines quest. No need to group. people are just standing in the village in line to accompany the "traitor" to the dead mines.
SV; Tanaris all heavy on questing people and MORE than I ever saw in these last 2 years.
The man is trying to negate what XFire just proves: Wow = 1050 weeks the number one being played and with a daily 6.200.000 characters being played in US°EU it is about 550 to 600K more than the summer of 2007 - with only one server added the last month in EU.
these are facts not some green trolling text in a Wow forum full of hate towards the game.
Unfortunately, that is something you will find in any MMO. I would bet that in almost all MMO's that have been around more than 2-3 years that 95% of the players in the low level and starting zones are alts.
Maybe it is time for a game with periodic player wipes.
It's Rash of the Itch King you doofus. Though the rest of the post is spot-on! .
Except the AoC part ...where you get 24-hour bans for jumping on fountains/wagons to escape guards. It's obviously a high-level exploit.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
Welcome to the post Burning Crusade era where everyone is on another planet grinding away. No reason to be in the old zones except for the AH in faction cities.
/sigh WoW does NOT have 10 million subscribers.
Thats what I meant. I see people in the capitals but almost nowhere else. I just assumed that my whole old server pop. was raiding TBC stuff.
Thats a little nuts. I run into people everywhere on my server. Doing dailys and even in lowbie areas. It must only be a select few servers that are dwindling. Mine is hoppin all the time.

no its prob has 11 million subs hehe at least
its all about the server. my main server that was new when I started on it is dying off, poor Gul'dan. just getting a VC group a few months ago was near impossible.
but when I rerolled on Kul'tiras (ewww PvE server) it was actually decently populated in the low-mid level area.
but everyone is on endgame, when the boosted 10-60 leveling speed they destroyed the old world population, which sucks because I loved the old world, and their 20mans (40mans didn't do it for me, but nothing against them)
but the OP is not a troll, and if he was he is a damn good troll for not being... stupid about it. Seems like a valid question to me, and its a problem a LOT of servers face. a few servers no one wants to leave (even when they open free char transfers) and so a large amount of the population is there, and the smaller servers are dying off.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Wow, what an idiot. This is nothing but pure AoC fanboism at its finest. Don't listen to this guy.
To answer your question, I think there is a bit of a downtime now since everyone is sick of the old content and knows there is an expansion on the way. I know my guild was going strong just a few months ago but a majority of the main members stopped playing pretty much all at once. A lot of us tried Age of Conan, but that game is horrific and most(if not all) of us quit already. I'm not saying my server is dead per say, but I definitely noticed a huge slow down of activity in my guild. I fully expect the servers to be rocking again when the expansion comes out.

sorry to say, but AoC pop is going down too, i wish it wasnt, i wish funcom didnt screw up, the combat system is, indeed, amazing and pretty innovative, but they are screwing up pvp and at max level everyone can one or 2 hit each other...it's kinda pointless atm, it has potential, but i would really like to see a full loot, ffa pvp server, that would make me come back
edit: btw, i dont like WoW either lol

I highly disagree. Making you hit a key for an auto attack is far from innovative. Having to hit multiple keys to use a simple special is tedious and boring. They had an action style combat system with an attack queue... It's like an express lane with a lot of traffic. It could be fast paced and fun, but its just slow and boring.

amen man, I so miss the old days of wow. The 40 man raiding was awesome, I got so dissapointed when they announced there would be no more 40-man raiding content.
North American population is about 2.5 million, Europe 2, Asia 5.5, about 6 months ago. Can't really say 10 million when you're talking about the majority of the players here that play. it is only 2+ million in their regions basically. Still a good number, but with so many servers and everyone in the new area and high level almost, of course you will see lack of people early on, except for alts or few new people.
I haven't played since before TBC, but from my experience, when expansions take you away from the old world with no incentive to go back, it kills the old content.
