If you want to duel or group, please take the time to ask, don't just spam me with duel requests...  99/100 I will accept... if you don't you get a decline...  if you spam it more than 3 times, you get reported... a bit of etiquette please...

Ahh the random group invite's how I dont miss them,When I played my priest would get these alot, even after I declined they would just keep sending them, the funny thing is when ppl did ask me to join the group alot of the time I would and on more than 1 occassion I would join a group and the leader would say"I sent you an invite before and you kept declining"when I told him he never asked me 1st or even told me where the group was going some of them just couldnt understand the fact it is nice to ask 1st rather than just spam invite.

Some strange player's out there indeed.

I would accept groupies and ask them what they need and just tell them to ask first, but Id help them out and not be a jerk who keeps declinen , I mean it wont hurt to accept and see what they so urgently need you for It may benefit you in some way you never know.

Who came up with this necessary code of ethics in video games?

  • WikkedbowtieWikkedbowtie Member Posts: 494

Its not a video game code of ethics, it's a simple case of not being rude. Just because I can't reach out and strangle you for annoying me doesn't make it ok. Why do so many people in MMOs seem to think that spamming invites to strangers with no warning is ok?

Most games like WoW and CoH have a way to look for people who want to group with you. USE IT!!!!!

Are you mad? the kinda people who do that don't read forums

Its the WoW community mate. In the majorities eyes, its decline = noob, decline more than 3 times = tard. Theres been so many times i have been insulted, shouted at and god knows what else, purely because i have declined a duel. And even if you win, they will just log onto Daddys account and wtfpwn your butt with some S4 Druid. I'm glad i have left, its a nice feeling.

Btw, i honestly don't think reporting them will make any difference.

Well maybe some people think it is ok because it is not really something your parents teach you in life or is in anyway a valueable skill to learn. Me sending you a tell saying "brace yourself I am going to invite" instead of just being blunt and inviteing you I really don't see the difference. If someone invites you to a group and you do not want to join maybe sending them a tell saying no thanks would do the job, just a thought though.

Nothing against you though I know it is something you believe I have just had people who have had their looking for group flags up I invite them and they decline because I didn't ask first. Come on you got your flag up. When I did this it was in the first mmorpg I played FFXI I don't do it anymore because I know people don't like it but I don't believe in it much.

Its nice of you to say to the player before you invite which dungeon you are actually going to for starters. I used to be LFG for 3 different dungeons, DM/WC/SFK for example. I'd get some random invite, how the hell am i supposed to know what i am getting myself into? Its wrong in my opinion to randomly invite someone you don't know very well. Its funny because they will invite you, so you say hello, they don't say nothing back but say "lets go summon"... its all rush rush rush, probably why they didn't whisper

If it isn't such a big deal then why can't the inviters do that?

Well most inviters do that, the whole conversation was about some people not doing it. So its not a big deal some people will ask you and sometimes you will need to ask them not really a problem at all.

It is a big deal. In fact it is such a big deal, I make it a big deal.

There is nothing more annoying then to be running along and a huge screen pops up in your face to join a group. No words said just a huge screen, with basic info of the person trying to get you to join.

I'll decline and tell them why I did. In which normally I'll get responses such as. "ok I'm sorry, will you join my group plz?" In which I'll reply, "No, try again next time the correct polite way." In which I normally get a "stfu noob" or something around that response.

Well they just accomplished nothing and now lost an invite and just got added to my ignore list. In fact the only thing they accomplished is to make my mmo life a lot more easier knowing I can avoid people like that. Really is a nice tool.

Maybe I just try to take life a little more easy than most people because a few taps of a computer mouse and a few pecks of a keyboard has never bothered me.

I think it has more to do with how you grew up and what you can tolerate. I can't stand impolite people, if someone wants something and doesn't say please I'm not doing it, simple as that. In the mmo world I'm more lenient of course, no on has to say, "can you join my part plz" But is it so much to ask for a /tell "Would you like to join my party? We doing x and y."

Everyone has their take on dealing with random spam invites.  I solo the vast majority of the time unless I Guild group for whatever. When someone spam invites me I just move the invite window out of the way and let it expire while I tend to MY business. If they do it more than 3 times I put them on /Ignore. Doesn't really bother me that much but I can see how it could get annoying if you allow yourself to do so.....

Same goes for those that bash WOW for the juvenile community, LET it bother you and it will eat at you till you quit...never really understood that take....

It has nothing to do with manners. If something does something impolite in the real world that I don't like yeah maybe it will make me a litte mad but in a freaking game who cares. I have found many easy solutions it is not anything I worry about or have even used up 2minutes of my life to think about until I found out it was such a big deal with most people. How can you get up in arms about something so minor its just stupid its a game. As for you saying its how you grew up, go ask someone who you grew up with that doesn't play games if you should need to ask before inviteing someone to a group see what they say.

Hey tater, I think you actually agree with us but just can't bring yourself to admit it. The whole argument is people who blind invite. You say we are rude for just declining a blind invite, but you seem to be defending the rudeness of the inviter. If I am not looking for a team and someone asks me to join thier team I will politely respond with "No ty". They well then usually say "ok".

As for duels....... Why would I accept a duel from someone 25 levels higher then I am?

Actually yes it is that big of a deal. If you cant even be bothered to wisper something like "Heroic mech" then as far as I am concerned, you are lazy and not someone I would want to group with. Simple as that.

Goes for all games not just WoW...though I rarly ever encounter it in other games.

Lol, I just love those. Ppl 20+ lvls higher wanting to duel you...they really need a morale boost, don't they?! :)

As for the blind invites, it depends if I'm flagged or not lfg. If I am, I'll join and ask the necessary questions. If I'm not, I'll decline, simple as that. No fuss, no muss. We all have different things that annoy us, but it's in the dealing of them that matter, not the event itself.  :P

I think this sums up the duel issue pretty well....

I don't think I ever called you guys rude for not accepting a invite I just don't think its rude to do it. I really can't bring myself to think something so minor is actually a problem.

I guess I agree with you on the duels because thats when people are just being stupid and want to say hahahaha i pwn u.

Typical WoW baby rant. "Someone invited me to a group without asking me. WAHHHHHHH!"

What do you expect of a game where most of your fellow players are pre-pubescent?

Try playing a game where grouping is not an option. Then grow up.

Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.

You are worse than the blind inviters! If they apologize, I think you should forgive them, providing they're doing what you wanted to do.

Blind invites ARE rude indeed. However it's equally rude and also extremely arrogant to think they are not worthy of having you in a group.

If I get blind invites, I generally accept and ask what it is they wanted to do? If they say something I'd like to do, I say "Sure, but would you mind asking before inviting in future?" ... If they're doing something I don't want to do I say, "Sorry, but that's not what I had in mind. Please ask before inviting in future"

9 times out of 10, the person will apologize. Usually it's just a lack of etiquette, not manners. That one out of 10 usually blind invites you because they're an idiot.

I'm not prepared to waste a perfectly good group just because the person lacks etiquette! Worst case scenario, you accept, they turn out to be an idiot after all. You quit, in a polite fashion (Never lower yourself to their level) and get on with your own business. What if they're not rude, and they're not English (etiquette varies from country to country). They blind invite because that is acceptable to them, and they are met with rudeness. You are certainly worse than them

I'm speaking about City of Heroes/Villains here. Maybe World Of Warcraft is different. But then, if a higher percent of blind invites are idiots, I think that's more to do with the playerbase than anything else. In which case, set group invites to auto-decline and only switch it on when you're grouping with friends.

Simple. Grow up HashBrick and remove your head from your own arse.

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor
