Getting into the Beta

kikinchazkikinchaz Member UncommonPosts: 562

Hi all,

I entered into the beta as soon as it was online before most people even knew about it.

But sadly I'm not a subscriber atm, and the original plan was to see WoTLK and then see if this would be the expansion that could redeem my "fresh feeling" and enjoyment for WoW.

However I've just read you have to be a sub to even get into the beta. If i was to sub now would I still be able to get in do you think? Or would it not be worth subbing for a the large reason of attempting to get a place in the beta?

You had to have a sub prior to the 15th of July.

    If not, no dice.

chances are you wouldn't have gotten an invite anyway, they aren't giving them out to everyone.

It seems kinda rare to get an invite so far.

yeah if you didn't go to the blizz con or WWI or w/e it was 9/10 you probably won't see it since they give beta keys to them. kinda of sux in a way.

Ah right I see. Very annoying.

I just want to see if WOTLK will bring back my enjoyment of WoW. Theres so many games coming out these next few months that I have to be sure that any game I purchase is worth the money.

WotLK will not be out until near Christmas.  WAR is coming out in September.  FABLE 2 is out Oct. 1st.  Decent time gap to save money.

WotLK will be worth it.  I am enjoying the beta thus far.  I have taken several breaks in WoW due to being bored, last one being almost a full year.  I came back recently and got into beta, and have to say, I feel like I did on day 1 launch.

I own a 360 too, and I'm a big shooter player. Theres at least 10 games coming out that i want within a 3 month period....

Not to point out the obvious, but that's worst possible attitude to have for beta.  Beta isn't meant to be a demo to see if you want to spend money.  If done properly, it's about ironing out bugs, giving feedback for issues, and testing specific parts of the game.  If people aren't interested in doing that, they should simply wait until it's ready for public release - they aren't going to be contributing anything useful.

That's a very idealistic view, which I actually used to share (or at least voice). Reality is that without all these "get a sneak peak" people there wouldn't be enough testers to iron out technical issues and see how new features are welcomed. Beta tests also work as a great marketing tool when done correctly, and for Blizzard - known for making good stuff - it's surely a great tool for keeping the interest in WoW with other titles just out or on the horizon. :-)

Well, I'll concede that it's unrealistic to expect very many ideal beta testers.  However, there's a wide range of attitudes of those taking part in it.  For instance, many of those that want a sneak peak are wanting to try out all of the mechanics so they have a 'leg-up' on everybody when it goes into release.  During that process they often discover what is balanced and what isn't, and what things might need attention.  And that is just as useful of information for the developers as the hard-core beta testers.  However, the folks that are just going to treat it as a free game for a few months, while they wait for something else to come out, aren't worth having in the process - and that's what the OP sounds like.   If they only want to check it out, might as well at least wait until open beta.  I just find it odd that he thinks it's unfair that he doesn't have a guarenteed closed-beta slot as a non-paying customer that "just want to see if WOTLK will bring back my enjoyment of WoW".  But maybe I'm reading too much into his post.

No sadly I mean my money, "lol" ...

Oh no don't get me wrong I always do try and "test" the game as much as possible, I stop by the forums and post about bugs along with reporting bugs directly in any beta's I'm in. However a game is a game. If I didnt enjoy playing a beta quite frankly I wouldnt play it - as simple as that. Whilst helping iron out bugs for the game I'm also experiencing it too.

With MMO's theres no other way to see if the game is "for you" before launch without being in the beta. If I enjoy playing the game then by all means I'll continue to test it out and help out the development. But if I'm not enjoying playing it and don't feel its for me then I wont be testing it as I wont buy it. Of course in some cases for beta's you can see the potential there for a game and continue to help out and test it for that reason - so it reaches that potential.

But yes generally speaking you dont keep beta testing a game that you dont enjoy playing. Its not a job, were not getting paid to do it, its a game.

I just simply want to see if WoTLK will bring back my love for WoW and enjoyment of playing it. And if i begin to enjoy playing it again theres no doubt i'd help test it out and report bugs until the very end and then go out and buy it on day 1.

The question was regarding reactivating my account for a chance of getting in the beta.

Bah, that would be my bad.  Sorry was reading several threads and got it mixed up.  One guy was talking about beta or something or another, then said he canceled pre order because he got WAR beta rofl.

    =P I was mistaken.

However, it will be fun, and I think you will enjoy it.  I am currently.  I started playing during beta of the original WoW.  Have played since, and I took many breaks.  Recent break reached almost a year, game got boring and had nothing to interest me anymore.  The Beta is making me enjoy the game once again, if it says anything.

  • kikinchazkikinchaz Member UncommonPosts: 562

    That is helpful Jatobi :)

I am in the same position that nothing else interests me right now and I've played WoW since the EU launch with many breaks also.

Believe me I wish I was the person saying I got into the WAR beta :P That is one game I really do want try out.
