Seems to be very cool!  Graphics are nice and the sample music was pretty good as well.  I went through the site, nicely put together but I couldn't find out if they plan on charging a monthly fee, does anyone know?  If so, how much will it be?

    This is from the FAQ.

Will there be monthly fee to play the game?
Yes. The amount has not been decided yet. The monthly membership cost is for upkeep of the world servers and monthly updates to the gameplay itself.

this game does not look interesting at all. extremely sub par graphics, and not very many races to choose from. the character models look like crap. go check this link out and see some very nice graphics on these vidoes of EQ2. there are 12 pages of eye candy.

Looks interesting, but why do you think it is not just another EQ clone?

  • jayheld90jayheld90 Member UncommonPosts: 1,726

did i say anything about it not being an EQ clone? anyways everquest wasnt even created by SOE it was bought by SOE like asheron's call was bought from microsoft by turbine. first of all they arent using the same graphics engine, or the same class system, skill system, crafting, etc etc. so its going to be exactly the same, yes it will have some of the same elements but that is to be expected. anyways if you want to play it, then play it. i was just showing people what the graphics look like on EQ2 before they judge it because people seem to keep going on that its going to be exactly like EQlive without doing any research. that being said, play what you want, but im entitled to an opinion also. image

I know that nobody is referring to Mourning as an EQ clone. I mean, read anything at all about it to see the glaring differences. It is completely focused on PvP and GvG war and brings a lot of new things to the table. Char models arent very good at all, but the environment is simply amazing. Its a niche game for the PvP crowd looking for better than SB, which this will be.

I think this game has promise.  The screenshots are very very reminiscent of DaOC, maybe a little sharper.  I like the skills based characters idea.  I've enjoyed games on this system in the past.  It seems a little more realistic then levels, but, of course, theres always the challenge of scaling over time.  In any case, I'll keep a sharp eye on this one.  I would love for this to be a 'sleeper' hit and have something refreshingly different and fun to play.

This game sounds and looks great but I have a sneaking suspicion that we will never see it.

That is always a distinct possibility with companies like this.  But...if they have enough money to see this through, then it should be fine.

Umm hey man calm down he was not talking to you he was talking to the original poster.  EQ2 is agreat also, no one is insulting your game here.  Wow.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

The game is coming along fine. I have been testing it for a year and we will see it launch.

Turbine bought their game back from Microsoft who was only the publisher they did not create it Turbine did! All Turbine is doing is taking control of their game back from a large company who was doing nothing but screwing it up just like SOE screwed up EQ turning it into the never ending Monty Python online. Get your info straight before you insult a good game like AC by implying it was created by a bunch of idiots that is microsoft.

  • MalianeaMalianea Member Posts: 314

Yes Hix, you are right. Sony really messed up EQ by getting it to over 500k paying subscibers. Boy oh boy. I hope I mess up that badly some day ::::02::

Mali just because alot of ppl are doing something doesnt mean its good. Windows is a great example of this, it is probablybar none the worst programmed UI in history and yet it is the most widely used and known. To quote Bill Gates, " It is doesnt matter if your product is of the highest quality, all that matters is who gets to the market first.

Windows, AOL, EQ all prime examples of very popular, good money making "shit". =)

I'm thinking that Ryzom is a great sleeper game.  Just released last week.  At one point they had a lot of stuff on various game sites, but got kinda quiet.

I played in the first open beta, but decided I didn't have the patience for testing at the time.  It's had a lot of improvements since then, and looks great now.

Very different game in both look and feel, and the genre combines both Fantasy and Sci-Fi, player races are unique as well as the detailed and lush game world.

    Check it out!

Interesting.  They have advanced some important concepts, but to be honest they missed the boat on the removal of character levels.  This used to be termed "blind play" where the players do not know what "level" they were.  This stiffles serial competition and goal setting which in the long term will lower the interest in the game.

This may very well be a great niche game.  I doubt that it will have broad appeal.

That's all EQ2 is... eye candy. Theres no PvP, why is it even online? Just make it offline, since you can't fight other real players anyway. Fighting NPC monsters is more fun on console games than online games.

Mourning has all the features of a great MMORPG, sadly I doubt half of them will make it to release and they'll probably end up being lackluster. I think the devteam is promising way too much than it can deliver. Whenever you ask the main developer a question about a feature you'd like to see in the game he pretty much says "yeah, we'll probably have that," which is discouraging because you know he isn't being truthful and is just giving wishful thinking on his part.
