Now, while i bash Age of conan every chance i get... being a past moderator i know where he is coming from. His answer was short, concise and right to the point.
He isnt a game dev, would they have prefered he gave a bs response.. like "I will have the dev team look into it!" If the devs designed it so you cant go back, then you cant go back. Why people require some extensive convoluted answer to such a simple question is beyond me.
You can go back to Tortage, that's the point. He anwsered with his own opinion. Basically, anyone that wants to go back to Tortage is a ganking loser was where he was going with it.
I think you're a nice guy from what I read on the forums but I do think you take the anti-AoC personally. It's not a really good game and I personally left after a month of playing it...and I loved Anarchy Online. I wanted this game to work, but there are apparent and evident issues over the physical software/coding issues and their personal forum policies with hiring sub par and immature gamemasters and forum moderators.
I agree with the OP. That moderator crossed the boundaries several times and as a former mod here as well as EVE I can say this with some sort of experience.
Just remember, just because someone is attacking funcom does not mean they are attacking you.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Yes, I bought the game. I didn't last past first 30. Look, I understand, you don't want to hear the negatives about the game, it's YOUR game, you assume my attacks on FC are personal attacks against you. That isn't the case, at least, not my intention. The FACT is FC didn't even hire professional mods for their official forums. The forums were a wasteland of negativity, so FC decided to save a few dollars by giving a few fanbitches mod status. Those fanbitches, like Lufkin are behaving like assholes towards the community. Truth hurts.
No your assuming I take them as personal attacks, I just wholeheartedly think its going a bit too far here. I don't take any attacks on FC personally, I see it a different way. Maybe its because im in the service industry.
Fair enough, I withdraw the comment.
Most sites are run by volunteer mods, also if you want to be a mod there is a pretty extensive questionnaire for the AoC boards.
I haven't played many games (that I was aware of it) that didn't have pro mods. Maybe it's easier to notice with Lufkin and the others. Could be, though they seem pretty bad even for volunteers.
As I said before im not defending Lufkin, im stating there was no personal attack in his response, but I personally wouldn't of wrote what he did. He wasn't being an asshole, but he certainly wasnt being the best he could of been with his responses.
No personal attack, but it's just the latest of many snarkey type comments he's made. I think it snowballs. I think the issue is he isn't acting any more mature than the posters he talks down to. Plus in the latest thread, he responds snarkey, creates a stir, people come in and dogpile him a bit, he fans the flames, then locks the thread because it went off the rails, hehe.
Whether Lufkin likes it or not, volunteer or paid, he does represent FC by the very nature of being a mod with his authority on the official site. As such, he should be showing restraint while he posts aqua.
If he wants to get in the mud, he should save it too post under his player account, that would help.
I definitely frown, yet again, at Funcom on this matter.
I've written and worked for a few sites in my time, and whenever I did anything that was considered even "dancing on the line", I had a superior come down on me.
Maybe he's trying to intentionally fuel the flames, and maybe he's not. The fact is, as a company, your readers shouldn't even have to sit there and ponder this.
In all the years I've been involved with the industry (less than 3, mind you), I was taught that you're supposed to make intelligent, logical, useful contributions on the forums. I think it's rather deplorable that Funcom doesn't feel the need to hold it's moderators, be they paid or volunteer, to a higher code of conduct.

He shouldve been called on giving a half assed answer, i read the thread and people just seem to cal him on his town but not the incompleteness of his answer. I never sugar coated anything when i moderated, but i didnt do misinformation either.
I dont know much about AoC in its current state, just commented on what i seen in that thread.

To be fair with Avery, every moderator job I have ever had as well as every in game CSR and Guide I have ever represented was on a volunteer basis.
However, with that said, I do know other companies take their training MUCH more in depth and stricter than Funcom does. Because I was a in game CSR for Funcom for a few years. Here's kinda of a break down to explain it:
SOE: Despite people thinking SOE sucks with Customer Service, if you ask anyone who ever ran into an ingame guide, chances are it will be positive. In order for me to be in in game Guide for Everquest 2 I had to:
take a LENGTHY application.
do a week of one on one training with the Senior Guide of my Server.
Know their (thick) policies and procedures manual backwards and forwards
Take a very difficult test based on every customer issue you can think of.
two weeks of in game training on a GM only island
2. EVE:
Had to mail them a photocopy of my drivers license and signed contract to CCP
Attended a 7 day training session
Attend another 7 day training session via mirc
Trained in game for CSR trouble shooting (Polaris)
4 weeks of forum moderation training
3. Funcom:
Had to have a lvl 50 Anarchy Online toon
In game 15 minute interview with a fellow volunteer CSR accompanied by a senior CSR
Invited to the ARK program
thats it
4. MMORPG.com
No training. Just a staff only forum section where you read the rules
MODs are picked based off of experience so they dont have to train
So you can see where the professionalism of the other games are so strict and concise that its like they are paid moderators. The difference is in the training. It makes all the difference in the world.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
For some reason Funcom likes to have inmature persons as moderators and GMs. Probably to keep with the inmature players (not saying all the players are) they attract with the digitial boobs and the gore.
It was nice also the people defending the "moderator". And the guy that used "allegorically" instead of "categorically".
AoC is doing a great job keeping that kind of people (not meaning all the players) together playing the game. Shouldn't disappear at all.
Maybe FC should man up, act like an actual real company and hire professional mods for their "official" forums? Guess with the game going down the toilet, they need to nickel and dime as much as possible, like the "free" trial.
Have you played the game yourself recently? Or did I once read not long ago you have never played the game? You might want to stick an " in your opinion " in there too.
We all know there is nothing majorly wrong with that mods comments on that thread. They are pretty much to the point. They might be perceived differently due to the type of person reading it. Sure I would put it across slightly differently, but he wasn't rude and it sure is not madness.
What we have here is a group of people looking to lynch FC all the time, searching with purpose to find anything they can use to bash them with.
Actually yes there is. Hes not there to be asmart ass or dictate game play styles. HE caused the thread to escalate. As someone said if he wants to act like that then do it on his own account. Go through his posting history. Is a very very bad Mod for multiple reasons.
Sorry Avery, AoC is failing badly. You can continue your completely blind defence of bad software all you wish. FC is a terrible MMO maker, even worse at trying to fix what they screwed up in the first place. Go ahead and post a bunch more graphs and misinformation about how great the game is, it's your opinion. Speaking of which, you mean to say you wouldn't realize that without links it an opinion? Maybe you should save yourself some stress and leave the forums then if you and FC are so lonely in a cloud of denial. Otherwise, get used to the fact that AoC inspires negative word of mouth and posts because it's just a rotten game with no future except for a few players like you and some tumbleweeds on the servers - which will merge soon, I guarentee. AoC has failed. The mods are volunteer fanbitches with an ax to grind against the community for bashing their precious game. Fanboys with mod power will make idiotic posts, yet you defend that too. Lets agree to disagree.
You havent played the game have you? And yet all these posts here that you make on these boards and you have no first hand exp..
And the game is fail because of one mod who lack a bit of proper CS?
Not that it will matter to your fanboyness but the game fails for many other reasons besides that but the general ARROGANCE of that Mod is the root to why the game ( and many others) fail. ARROGANCE

Wow thats really really shameful. Those moderators need a good whipping. You are in a service position that deals with the public, and even if the public asks a "stupid" and I'm putting stupid in quotes for a reason - "stupid" question, they should have the professionalism to give a productive answer. An answer such as "You dont need to go back" is very unprofessional and reflects the face of FunCom as a company as well.
Shame on you FunCom! Ive read some more of these forums, and man, they are just bad. This reflects to me, as a potential customer, that FunCom is a very unproffessional company and they do not respect their customer base.
The bottom line: Since Funcom did not take the time out to train their moderators in dealing with the public, customer service, reflects back on to me that FunCom does not have respect for their customers. Thats it. They simply dont have the respect.
This is crazy. I haven't seen this much vitriol and hate on a newly launched game since the Vanguard mess.
Have any of you that are leaping at every chance to slam Funcom and Age of Conan paused to catch your breath and reconsider how reasonable you're actually being?
Vanguard WAS a near total debacle. Sigil was a completely mismanaged mess, utterly imploded, SOE swooped in to save the day and the game is actually a lot more playable now for their efforts. They've done a great job with it.
I don't get why Age of Conan is getting the same kind of hate thrown at it though. It's a pretty damn good game, in my opinion. The Tortage experience was excellent. I loved how they had a different perspective of the story depending on your overall archetype (warrior, cleric, rogue, mage). The graphics are absolutely stunning and the combat system is a little different than I'm used to which is entertaining.

What is going on with WAR having to scale back cities and classes doesn't phase me in the slightest. They're doing what they believe they need to do. I think a lot of people just need to pause and look around and realize that this sort of thing has happened and will continue to happen with EVERY game.
Even some of the most solid A-list games have had hard launches and growing pains at times. Even mighty World of Warcraft had to scramble to deal with issues at launch. City of Heroes has been such a work in progress since Day 1 that it is barely recognizeable to the game it was at launch, much less the original concepts we all read about that are now being realized in some ways in the upcoming Champions Online.

lolololol the official boards? they're far worst than these forums. the game is failing now that people have gotten over the pretty graphics and have played long enough to see it for what it really is....this game needed another 6-8 months of GOOD developement . the game is nothing but empty promises and people are leaving at a high rate.

Ive reach lvl75 my guild is already gone about 150+ peeps, most of time 4 to 8 peeps online, game is just terible, to many things to sum up whats wrong with it, but for me reason not to finish last 5 lvls, terible game launch and next 1.5 month ive played it, it failed completely for me.
Ones who still defend AoC sure they have a right to do so and if they have fun with it thats ok fine for them, if you like a half finished bugged unbalance multi player game, for me its not realy a mmorpg max 50 people in same instance maps are small and very linair no real exploration, easy game.
Wax museum most most stand still to be slaughtered, from lvl1 to lvl80 its mostly kill 10x or 20x or deliver this from point A to B.
Instance in instance are boring and no WOW factor at all dull design with boring mobs inside.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

The "venom' comes from those who don't play the game because we all quit during the first month, so yea we don't play the game. Once again, because we don't like to pay to play a beta version of the game.

Are you on topic?? its about the witch hunt against this moderator.
Why dont you go kick him too, then create a new thread saying the same thing against, search his posts up and make some more comments.
That is your opinion you were ripped, There are 302 people in my guild, maybe 20 post on the official boards regularly, rest are in the game at least 4 times a week on average.
Didnt like the game, fair enough, go post on one of many topics about it, this is about moderation and a Witch Hunt to keep slamming a mod who isnt gracious enough by a select few hardcore haters who feel just like you... Hard done by and feel the need to let everyone know and attack EVERY little freaking element to do with the game.
You speak like "We" is everyone. Its not. Get over it.

Still think this is relevant. Its a witch hunt. Its shameful of people to keep going on about it. Shows just how hateful and jaded gamers can be.
Lets not forget the venom is coming from people who don't post on the official boards nor play the game either.
Its like animal mentality, "lets kick someone", "no wait... I want a piece of the action too, lets all kick him for the sake of it."
Enough is enough.
Sad .....
lolololol the official boards? they're far worst than these forums. the game is failing now that people have gotten over the pretty graphics and have played long enough to see it for what it really is....this game needed another 6-8 months of GOOD developement . the game is nothing but empty promises and people are leaving at a high rate.

Dude, you are a hardcore fanboi.
I'm not a jaded gamer, I'm a jaded consumer, paying $50.00 to play a beta version of the game sucked.
The "venom' comes from those who don't play the game because we all quit during the first month, so yea we don't play the game. Once again, because we don't like to pay to play a beta version of the game.
"Sad...." yes your undying devotion to this forum to slam back on consumers who were ripped off.

Its not. Get over it.
sorry Kyleran..

The game isn't shared. Your downloading directly from Funcom
that mod has no idea what he's talking about. I've got a funny feeling he'll be asked to leave as MOD soon.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
