I loved this game when I just started, but when I got to aorund 46 ~ on my Ranger, it got boring.
The biggest is the PvP part, if you choose a PvP server, its everyone vs everyone, and if they get the jump on you (SKILL DOESNT MATTER!), you are dead.
[EDIT: About the above text, don't tell me to go play PvE, when obviously I know the rules (none..) of PvP, the problem lies in the PvP system itself)
So while I am writing this, a level 73 douchebag by the name Brehon, a Barbarian, decided to kill every one sight in the starter area. He is a WoW kid and there are lots him.
Here are some convos:

Next thing he was yelling I AM THE MASTER.
The game is hollow, full of bugs, idiots and have huge class balance issues (ToS..........)

Yup.
That's typical FFA PVP, alright.
And people wonder why it is not the most popular rules model.
I can see what your saying. But the Wow jabs are old. This happens in any game with a poor pvp system with no repruccussions. And these types of actions have been going on far longer than WOW has been around.
Would be funny if he was polite back.
"No, I want to play here, but you obviously ruin it for everyone else."
"Oh good sir, my deepest apologies! But, it is clearly stated that I can kill whomever I please. Sorry for any inconvinience, but please, I suggest returning in 30 minutes' time. At that point I should be gone and you can enjoy the game however you wish. Good day!"
That'd be even more funny and less annoying then the KAPSLOCK R KRUISE KONTROL FER KOOL method he has.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

First, no reason to slam WoW for the bad behavior on a PVP server. This sort of thing has been going on since the beginning of FFA PVP back in UO (and probably before) and its one reason why this sort of rule set doesn't appeal to most people.
Strangely enough, I'm a Carebear yet I play on these servers. They require a different mindset, you play very defensively, heck, I never even bothered to read the quest text because I didn't want to get nailed at the quest givers.
Just the other night my son and I (level 39's) ran into a guild called "I gank" that was holding the crossroads in the Noble District. There were about 6 level 60's holding it and killing all who dared try to pass.
Took my son and I about 4 or 5 tries..but we pulled it off eventually and reached out objective.
That's the mind set required in a FFA PVP game, to succeed in spite of the gankers. You accomplish this by being quick, evading danger, traveling in packs and strong guild groups to battle the forces of darkness.
If you aren't cut for this sort of gameplay, and expect people to play fair, then your protagonist was actually correct in his advice to you...go play on a PVE server. The rule set does permit him to do what he did (though I think I read the repeated ganking of lowbies is a bannable offense, you might have wanted to report him)
OP, I'd recommend you steer clear of games like AOC, Darkfall and Earthrise. These are going to be harsh worlds (though AOC will get better with new pvp honor system) and I don't think you have the mindset for them.
Come to think of it...maybe WoW would be a good game for you.

I can remember a guild called "The Smurfs" in Ultima Online. They did the same thing. Had a 3-point fork and killed everyone.
This is what kept me coming back for 4+ years. It had a real feeling that anyone could come up and hack the shit out of you. Yeah some people don't care for this, but it does make you think a lot different.
Hi, I'm from the server you played on "apparently" and I registered on this site just to be able to quickly tell you what happened before and after you tried to reason with brehon. (you weren't alone but no1 else reacted the way you did I think)
First off, before this all happend apparently the guy got killed several times trying to quest at a place where a group of people was questing aswell, they didn't appreciate having to wait for respawns so he had to clear way.
The pea-brain that is brehon decided to take out his frustration on people he could handel... New arrivals.
About 10 minutes in a bunch of 80s went to the starter area, and subsequently removed brehon. A nice feature in ffa pvp realms which always happens, self-policing of the players.
Brehon reacted by spamming general chat over and over, and is now apparently on a few days ban.
If you decide to give aoc a try, give a tell to reeses, I'm a 60 ranger on your server, also pretty new to aoc but I managed to get in a guild where a few lvl 80s show up to help us out if anything like what happend to you with brenon happens to us.
PS: You can see clearly WHERE he got ganked if you read the chatlog in the second picture of the OP

x2. Funcom tried to make the game play primarily PvE with the PvP as bonus play. Funcom likes to bite off way more than they can chew, they have some good ideas on paper but cannot for the life of them translate it into good code and fun game play. FFA is hard to do for even competent designers. You have balance issues and the just chaotic nature of PvP make that almost a impossible task. just one more reason as to why the game was doomed before release.
The wisest thing Turbine ever did was instigate the MPvP in LoTRO. makes it almost impossible for the above scenario to happen. Yet if you still want to do real PvP , that is play against a person rathwer than AI you can do it.
At least WAR is being designed around a RvR system as it's main game play. Their problem will be making the PvE interesting and balanced, they have the PvP part down pat after DAoC.
I miss DAoC
Hi, I didnt see any 80s, I assume he fled.
However, I did report him and I hope he got banned. Hes an asshole.
Also thank you for informing me, you can see that I could clearly guess why he ganked everyone..
Dont cry about this , just get some help and kill them . Want something to cry about cry about not getting full loot and xp for your kills .
To me that is what i would cry about not getting anything for my kill! Not getting anything for kill is the same as giveing away your car for nothing!

I agree. This game had potential but way too bug filled.
The FFA PVP is a pathetic display of gankers with no immersion or reason however the RP server Hyperboria was a decent community in whole. MUCH better then non-rp pvp servers.
There really is no real reason for pvp other then boredom. The culture server is not going to get any attention as it had the only potential if only they would allow more then 1 race to align in the cultures.
The killer for me is this new add campaign "Death never looked so hot"
Pathetic display of the lies. Funcom claimed nudity was to stay "true to the story" but in the end the boobs are just a gimmick to draw teenage pervs.
Failcom is not getting anymore cash outta me for this sloppy mess of a game.

To the OP sorry you had a bad experience but for me i get motivated by jackasses like Brehon.
I start a KoS list and 1-2 weeks later(i know im a casual gamer) revenge on his ass would be sweet.
killing him over and over with him asking"wtf why are you ganking me?" but that is life on a pvp server(rp-pvp for me)

Sorry didn't read your OP as it is about PVP, sorry i aint into PVP and also kinda stop carring what goes on there, but I love your SLJ clip
I just got the game and am having secound thousand things i would change
I disagreed with people who said the M+ rating would attract a more sophisticated, mature community of gamers but it's good to see I was wrong about that.

Ah, kinda makes more sence now, cause it didn't really fit a OP title like OP made.

Keep offtalk out of my thread, please .
Also, no one owns it.
I'm always on the fence with FFA PVP.
On the one hand it's frustrating as hell to deal with kids like him ruining your experience and cap lock mocking everyone.
On the other, I am attracted to the concept of the danger and player-policing and drama of it all. Traveling in groups, always wary of being ganked, jumping others, it's all very exciting!
The problem I see is no penalty for ganking lowbies, which plagues most FFA PvP I think.
A long time ago, I was playing my level 2 human Paly in WoW once, doing the usual kill wildlife quest in the starter area. A much higher lvl 'lock showed up and started slaughtering everyone. The yelling began, the taunts followed from the 'lock. Then a couple people logged onto their higher guys, or called in friends, or both.
As I lay there dead, i had great joy watching him try to run, getting cut down by 3-4 guys his lvl. Everyone in the area said thanks, and went on with their business.
There is no such thing as PVP. No one actually attacks until their target is at the disadvantage. Playing my Necro the only people I had to worry about were at least 5 levels higher than me or grouped people. Unless of course I was fighting more than 2 mobs. I cannot count the number of times that I had people wait around until I was in battle with something else before I was attacked.
About the only time I never faced a fight is when it was equal footing then they would never attack. I had a rule where I would not attack first. Once killed I would hunt the bastard down for the next 10 minutes.
Needless to say my kill ratio was very bad, around .500.
Waiting for the next thing
