I'm interested in what Darkfall brings to the table.
I really am interested in what Darkfall offers and in a non-linear sandbox game. I love RPGs and I also love being able to play and compete online as well. I always hated the Final Fantasy type of RPGs because they were way too narrow and linear. I loved Ultima Online and the freedom it presented. I also liked Asheron's Call and its PvP server, darkworld I think it was called.
But my question is there seems to be a lot of people here slamming Darkfall and calling it phony and vaporware and stuff. May I ask why so much heat is being placed on this game?

Just go through any of the many threads, the answer will come to you.
Because the game has been in development for many years with only a handful of screenshots and a few videos to show for it, and those videos don't show what they're promising. So, it's easy (whether you think it's justified or not) to say this game is never coming out. I think they're making something, but at this point it's almost enough to just say "haha I was right, it DID come out" or "lol dumb fanbois, this game's just a memory now." So that's why there's these forum wars, and I think they're more entertaining than the game!
Darkfall promises alot, delivered little, and we'll just have to wait and see how long it takes for it to A) release or
disappear.

I hate to say this, and for the record I believe the game will release ( although I am not certain in what state), but there are legitimate questions for the game. Long dev time. Is there appropriate funding/ resources? Can they pull off the listed feature list?
I personally believe no one knows the answer yet. The only reason I think they will release is because they are so personally invested financially, and with time. That they are surely expecting some sort of return. I make no claims on how it will turn out. It might be DnL. It might be great.
Internet is the place when you can be whoever you want. This is the only place some can be a imaginary badass and 'give back' to raise your bad self-esteem.
But this is not the only place were Trolls/deceptionist dwells. Tho Darkfall is a easy target due to the lack of a real PR department. Which in turn gives us sometimes wierd journals.
It's not the pointless post that's are harrowing. But their behaviur isn't normal. No normal person act like these, they sure have some disfunction when it comes to social standards.
So this is a place for cowards to express their dissatisfaction thats reflect their real life.

OP, the reason Darkfall catches so much flack is that it has been in development for YEARS and there is still no in game videos, no reporters reporting on actually "playing" the game, very few screenshots, and above all else a developer that has nothing rock solid, only sweet nothings and empty promises.

I have looked but could not find what engine they are using for the game.
And I admit that I like the style better of American mmo games compared to the Chinese/Korean ones like Lineage II. I dont know why, their style just doesn't appeal to me at all.
The videos and screenshots for Darkfall do look good I think but I would base my decision much more on how smooth and bug free the actual game play turns out

There's also a recent post on womengamers.com (www.womengamers.com/articles/editorials/passion-behind-darkfall-online/)for visit to Aventurine and Asp from LoD supposedly went to Aventurine HQ and played the game in October 2007(www.lordsofdeath.com/www/)
Not that this is rock solid proof about all the promised features but it's definetly more than "a few screenshots".

Because the game has been in deveopment for 8 years, and they still won't show it to anyone. And the videos they release don't show most of the features that are supposed to be in the game.
Also , they have been saying beta is about to start since 2003, but it hasn't started yet
well thats what you say do you have proof they havent showed it to anyone? NDas kinda stop people from tlaking if it has to do with bizness stuff hence why they went with pro tsters easyest way to keep an NDa from being broken..

You are not alone in having a keen interest in Darkfall. If DF is vaporware or not, that something you have to decide for yourself. Dont listen to all fanbois and haters. Just look at it as it is.
And dont take it to seriously, or else you might end up on this forum as a very pointless poster : )

Most of the developer's once hardcore fans have turned "haters" over the years, that's why you have such passionate "vaporware trolls" telling the truth about this game as loudly and as often as they can.
It's a game that doesn't exist. Maybe it will come out some day or even go into beta, until then it offers nothing, so don't worry about it. Find a game that exists, a game you can play, then you can tell what the game offers. Games that you can't play offer nothing. Games that nobody can play offer nothing to anyone. Darkfall offers nothing to everyone, it's special that way!

if funcom is at one end of the spectrum, adventurine is at the far other end.
they've said they don't want to waste time and effort on a pr campagn because their product will sell itself. i think it's great, look at AoC, huge, over the top pr, fooling the masses into purchasing something that was incomplete, doctored and fake, it only took the community 40 odd levels and a free trail month, now FC isn't getting money.
darkfall will have a short public beta, then release when the devs allready know it's solid, then by word of mouth it will sell. if it's any good i mean. you see, you only need a vigorus, glamourus pr campagn when your doubtful your product will succeed in the long run.

Earthrise looks promising, too. Not sure does it have full loot, though.
