Halo MMO

As you probably know Ensemble Studios is developing Halo Wars, an rts based on Halo. Ensemble Studios has also announced about a year ago that they are planning on making a mmo. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3149699 They said the mmo will not be fantasy. Now as you know Bungie Studios the creators of Halo left Microsoft. Microsoft recently hinted at a Halo mmo http://kotaku.com/5026574/would-you-play-a-halo-mmo Now, I think this means Ensemble Studios is developing a Halo mmo.

For the record I don't like Halo at all.

A halo mmo would be.... terrible.

I seriously dont get the appeal in Halo. For the record i would play an FPS persistant world but halo would be not be the one.

If they made it like planetside covenant vs humans etc would be cool.

I'd play an rpg halo mmo. If its fps then probably not, tired of twitch based games atm ;p

Could work out though if done right.

Yes one of IGNs employees got info out of microsoft that they were doing a "Halo project" with bungie and it got pulled from E3 at the last moment. Could this be what your talking about in a way?

Would be interesting to see. Probably MMOFPS with some RPG elements, competing with the likes of Planetside, Tabula Rasa and Neocron (II).

Halo is one of the most terrible FPS games I've ever played.  The only reason it sold so good is because MS paid off idiotic celebs to hype the junk to high heaven to stupid sheep on MTV.

Just goes to show you what good marketing can do.

Why do people insist on squeezing everything they can outta halo? Just play it for what it is....  a fps...

I understand that, but companies are ALWAYS trying to milk money out of franchises. Get ready kids Halo 4 by microsoft game studios multiplayer only extravaganza! but besides that maybe they could pull it off if they actually know what their doing.

Ya that makes alot of sense considering that warcraft was a rts.......

I welcome the idea of another mmo

A halo mmo?I like mmos, but you cant make a FPS into an MMO,it would be better as an fps,I could honestly picture a Halo MMO in my head right now,I like it,But it would honestly crash the franchise I believe, not many people like some FPS's being turned into MMO's

I never could get into Halo.  I love FPS games and I gave Halo a whirl but I dont understand the hype about it. Not saying it sucks; I just didnt care too much for it.

Halo is a extralame and generic FPS. Why would anyone make a MMO out of that? ..oh...  brand recognition!.. yea.

Halo is such a terible game. Xbox has proven to me that the general public should have stayed out of gaming and left it to PCs.

If they make it an MMO, I will shit on Ensemble Studio's door step.

This is how you know someone hates Halo because it is successful - they neglect what an impact it made for a genre.

Halo was not a terrible FPS - for a Console.  In fact, Halo was one of the best FPS experiences you could get off of a console.  Before Halo... there were practically NO FPS's on consoles.  Why was it so successful?

It was only available on the most powerful console on the Market at the time.  It showcased the power of said console, and had the best visuals of any game on a console for it's time.  It offered something that no other console game had ever offered before in an FPS - Co-Op.  This is an element of gameplay that immediately made the game better than the rest - to play with your friend from down the street.

I'm not a fan of Halo.  As a PC game, I think it was very poor, and very behind the curve.  But I am a realist, so I can understand and appreciate how it affected the console market.

As for a Halo MMO.... I just don't see the content.  I don't see where there is enough content there to warrant such an endeavor.  Then again, if I were in a position to make a lot of money, I would be very interested in creating some rediculous story that is completely foreign to the original to give players an artificial need to play a game they have no need for a need to play.  They will play it because it is Halo, whether it makes sense or not.

Wow.... I dont know what it is about you guys.  Halo is by far my favorite game, closely followed by some others.  Its story is brilliantly crafted, and leaves you feeling like your actually apart of the world. By the end I was so committed to some of the characters I teared a bit in the end.

The multiplayer is awesome aswell. With perfect balance on a consol, massive battles, and sweet things like forge and the camera.

All around it one of the best, if not the best FPS around. It revolutionized FPS by perfecting simplicity.

I'm thoroughly disappointed in MMO players that really enjoy Halo to the point that they think that it changed the FPS market for "the better".

... on consoles - yes.  Way to completely misconstrue what I said - moron.

Not to mention, I never said I enjoyed it.  I said I could appreciate what it offered to the console market.

Halo is a way for me to instantly join 15 of my friends in an online world. We can seamlessly join other groups and battle. We can blow stuff up. We can design our own gametypes and MAPS. We can play through the campaign together, and then go back and replay anything weve done in completely controllable 3D.

To be able to seamlessly do this on a consol in only a few seconds is bloody brilliant. It HAS CHANGED THE FPS MARKET FOR THE BETTER. Other games are going to have to match and beat these features to be successful. I call that "Better"

Changed? like creating maps, or jumping on games with friends is remotelly new?

Tons of people act like Halo is the first FPS. But is just the first decent FPS for a particular hardware: the XBox.

"It HAS CHANGED THE FPS MARKET FOR THE BETTER."

Yea, right.  TEH FPS MARKET.  A generic lame fps, that repeat stuff that is everywhere has changed something.

Name on other game like halo! One game were you cal be talking with your friends and say "Lets get on Halo" and 5 minutes later ALL be playing. There isnt one! I realise alot of the people on MMORPG.com can all hop on vent, syncronize IP adresses, and mind meld to figure out what game type server they want to run, but most people cant.

I cant be in class talking smack, and then be playing the guy 5 minutes later on other games.

Halo has mastered the simplicity wanted by casual gamers. Its start it up and go. 2 buttons to get in game. 2 weapons you can use.  KILL!

It has oppened up FPSs to the real world. And dont get me wrong, I love our little cuddle closet too. The second I saw Hot Topic selling WoW stuff I was on the run. But lets face it: mass marketting to casual players will lead to better games. More money = More fun. And those gym going, sex-havers sure do have alotta cash.

Sorry duffalpha. I think I can't understand what you mean.  Halo feature is that you can play with your friends?

I can do that with all others multiplayer games. Why is Halo different, than, say... BF2?

Also, I don't have Halo, and my friends don't have halo. So I can't really jump into Halo, and I don't want to. I tried the game, and is generic shit. I don't want to play something like halo, because lack flavour and is a bad fps. To me, Halo is a bad game. To you is a the best fps with a redeming feature... hee... you friends have it?.. .it load screens fast?   Cube load levels fasters, Tremulous and any Quake3 based game loads levels faster...  I fail to follow you. Sorry.

Well... lets try, 5 good *FPS games:

    - Planetside

    - Tremulous

    - TeamFortress 2

    - Battlefield 2

    - Counter Strike (no my thing, but still..)

On all this games you can jump into a game with your friends, and most adds things Halo don't have, and have superior gameplay.

Well.. so you say Halo is good, because the Xbox Live structure?.   Sorry, but Xbox Live is shared betwen all games, is not a Halo feature.  Also, all my friends can do what you say.

If you own an XBoX, it's the best one, and the one everyone else has too.

    The big one.

If you don't own an XBOX, it's just another FPS and while good, nothing special.

I think Halo 1 was, is and will forever be the god of FPS games. The following 2 sequels didn't do the series justice. How ever, if there was a MMO for halo on PC. Hell I'd go for it. Same as Star Wars. Just because it's "Halo."

  • JupstoJupsto Member UncommonPosts: 2,075

4 player split screen halo 3 with friends online vs other ppl is hilariously fun. I would definatly play a halo mmo if it was FPS/TPS, as still waiting on a good MMOFPS (not planet side)
