i am a veteran of various mmorpg, playing co and wow in the recent years. I got disappointed with WoW as there are too many assholes and worse, i have to run gear with other people to have nice equipment in this game. While some have been a good experience for me where i cleared stuff like magister terrace, others were simply terrible. While it is said there pvp gear can be obtained from running bgs, there are some other nice stuff only pve can still give and i dont get to experience end game content unless i am willing to put up with some assholes, which is not what i want to do every day after work. On top of that, my server has made very little progress in terms of end game progression. I am planning to quit wow when my subscription ends this month. So is there a game where you can get great gear and experience end game stuff on your own? i dont mind paying monthly fee if needed.

Try City of Heroes/Villains, nice community and you can solo the whole game if you really want to (not recommanded since it is very fun with groups).
The equipments are also optional, meaning you can have uber gears and kill things faster and easier, or you can just get store bought enhancment and still be useful. Also there is no roll for items and stuff, so no assholes or any rage quits.
If you like fantasy world stuff, sorry cant help you there since they all basically the same or similar to WoW
You need a nice guild in WoW but it is too time sinking for me.
If you like space ships, try eve on line, there is a 14-day trial or 21-day if you use steam!
Everything in EvE is player produced, if you like "crafting" you'll love it! You are even not forced to be a fighter, you can be a trader, miner, researcher, inventor and so on.
Give it a try, the only problem is the learning curve, it is a bit difficult early but it is totally worth, IMHO.
For fantasy-like MMORPG, I don't know, hoping someone else will answer
Whoever fears death, dies everyday. Who doesn't, dies only once.
Sounds like you should check out LotrO
Since everyone complain about how easy it is to get good gear there (Crafted gear is almost as good as Raid gear)
also have a large, mature and friendly community.. simillar to WoW but also very different in some aspects..
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
well sci fi games are out for me i used to play entropia then i got bored with u i prefer fantasy stuff like wow. I will check out LOTRO but while crafted gear is comparable to raid gear, do you have to group to get into endgame content? like in wow u have to be in a guild to down stuff like lady vashj, illidan e.t.c to see how bosses looks like. If the gear in LOTRO is easy to get, its good and i might want to play it. The biggest factor is experiencing end game content on your own without having to put up with others.
The last bit of your post is alittle off putting "without having to put up with others"with this sort of line maybe mmo's arent for you as "putting up with other's" is what it's all about, sure the like's of lotro you can solo and solo well but to experience the full game you will have to group.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Do you mean soloing end-game content? Then No its not like that in LotrO.. but why would you want to solo all the time? If you try LotrO then Im sure you will see that the community actually is very nice and friendly and it can ba alot of fun to do groups/raids because most people are very laid back and not just "gief phat lewt nooow!"
Raiding in LotrO doesnt require you to play 8 hours/day to keep up.. even the raiding is casually friendly and that mean that people dont take it as seriouse!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
you might be right in saying mmorpg arent suitable for me tho, but to me pve and pvp are 2 different things. i play mmorpg with the sole purpose of pvping only, but for stuff like pve i prefer to do things alone instead of having to rely on others. to you "putting up with others" is mmorpg for you, but to me mmorpg is a platform for me to enjoy pvping with other people around the world, and having to do pve stuff with others to enjoy pvp isnt the type of stuff i enjoy doing.
bump...still looking for other mmorpgs that my suit me dont mind subscription fee too
Keep an eye out for Warhammer Online, it's just around the corner. I CAN'T WAIT!!! Please, Paul, Josh, Jeff and Mark... save me from World of Chorecraft!
Once you go go whack, you'll never go back.

You might look into Chronicles of Spell Born, where the "gear" or clothes as it were, do not have any stats, it is all about the look of said gearclothing article. I.E. a full caster could dress in Full Plate if he so wishes.
It promisses to go off skill, and not gear, also has some other unique aspects to the game as well.
Ciao
I think MMOs shouldn't automatically assume that I want to group. In fact I shouldn't have to group ever, if I feel I'm tough enough why can't I go punch the biggest badass PvE guy in the nose. In real life there are loners why not in MMOs. Why should solo people be kept from seeing it all, just because they would rather not group?
I hate games that only let you advance your character through gear upgrades.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Tabula Rasa is pretty solo friendly. It's a Sci-Fi game though, and is more like a Third Person Shooter (Think Gears of War.). But... if you want a premium MMO that doesn't require you to do a whole lot with other players, then I emplore you to check it out.
By the way, I don't play this game, so I'm not telling you to try it because I want to promote it. I'm telling you about this game because I think it might be what you are looking for. As for me... it just wasn't what I was looking for out of a game. I was looking for something with a little..... more to it. But, don't let that deter you from trying it out. The game is good for what it does.
You could try out Guild Wars where you craft your own armor sets. There's no fee montly also.
In AoC you can get the best gear in the game on your own. Crafted armor is more about your ability to make coin then anything. Also the new pvp system appear to favor solo ganking over minigames by miles.
QFT - forced teaming sucks imho. Like you said, you can be a loaner IRL, so why not in an mmo?
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
hi all thanks very much for replies. Just to clear up the fact: i am not against grouping, in fact i enjoy grouping from time to time. What i am against is forced grouping for gear. I do not like some of the raid leaders in some guilds, attitude problem for many reasons e,t,c, and i can't stand people who get better gear then me even tho they have no abilities to get some of those stuff on their own and rely on others, in fact, during a raid, i had to explain many of the boss fights to the raid leader leading the raid and he promoted me to raid assistant where i had to do most of the work, marking e.t.c Too bad, no one wants to join my guild but people joined his guild even tho during that raid its clear who shld be the raid leader instead. Such is life but do i want that in a mmorpg? nope if i have the ability to get stuff on my own, i shld not be a dog to people who have no capabilities if not for the support of others, at least for an online game. Not to mention before i was in such a game like WoW, forced grouping for gear and i put up so much bs to become the best in that game, only to see it died down. 4 years of online gaming have passed and now i am in WoW. Do i want to put up the same drama/bs all over again? nope i am done.
So why do i want to play an mmorpg instead of a single player game? simple. I want to prove that i can be one of the best, if not the best to others. I dont have to enjoy pve with others. My only main purpose in a mmorpg is to beat them in pvp using gear i earned, to show them that what i achieve is more than what they could achieve, & not gear i begged for like a dog to get.
I will check out those games all of you have mentioned but is guild wars reliant on other players to experience end game content? the key word is endgame content. Hmm chronicles of spellborn isnt out yet but i will check it out sometimes when i am free. Right now i heard asheron's call is mostly solo for endgame content and eq2 is switching more to solo endgame content anyone mind telling me if thats true?
