With no major crafts to drive the economy of war, what does?

I dont know much about economy in general but orcs, pay in teefs (teeths) so the orc with the more teefs is the richest, and if an orc is low teefs he can always bash the head of the other orcs to get more, or he can brutalize the merchant, (in many case the merchant is a goblin) and take what they want.

Now that what i call i growing and steady economy!

     Hopefully not gold farmers...

WAR is pretty lacking when it comes to economy.  Its all about bashing faces in, not building stuff.  Yeah it kinda sucks, I love crafting, but its just not what this game is about.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

Well, there will still be dropped items and I imagine potions from Alchemy and the talismans are tradeable. I doubt it'll be as large or what you might think of in other games though. But if you need something and it's tradeable, it's almost always sold by at least one other player.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

MJ  has said that  having enough cash will be made available to all players. It will be relatively easy  to come across in war.

ive played every major MMO release since Eq1..and crafting didnt pay a major role in any of them :/

  • What?? crafting is the backbone for all game economy, unless you buy your gold.

RvR is in a sense.. a coop game.  I mean, is a game where people will open a trade window to gift you a named  weapon of your class.

I really liked DAOC back when you needed tanks to carry seige equipment parts around because it was so heavy and you needed people leveled in woodworking to repair the doors.  It brought out even more teamwork within the realms other then just massing enough people to take down a keep.  Supplies needed to be brough in and everything, no mention of this in WAR though.

I miss that part of DAOC. Well....I miss DAOC in general....

that means you have not played SWG, which had best crafting todate, people could gather and craft, and I know some did just that for several years without any combat what so ever.

Economy in SWG was based around crafting. Unlike most mmo's since then or even some before that.

You need mats from 2 different gathering skills to make anything in your chosen crafting line.  Since you can only choose one gathering ability I assume much of the market will be driven by resources you can't get on your own.

Actually this is a great question... they've stated that players will only get drops for their class (right?), so that dosen't help either.. I'm really curious if there'll even be any kind of economy in the game. I mean besides potion and talisman makers. Will there even be a point to having an AH?

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

The game is about bashing each others head in, economy doesn't cross our minds

I have only heard that in referrence to Public Quest rewards, not sure if it applies to world drops.

Aye public quest are aimed to your character class, all others are standard dropping you are use to along with group options we are use to such as round robin, need/greed etc. However, as many are stating and the devs emphsize in their latest video Q&A, getting gear and armor sets will be pretty easy and done in so many ways most people will have no problem getting their gear.

Daoc had an economy if you chose to participate, when crafting came out people would sell their services just like in any MMO. Let's not even get into the scroll drops and gearing up your level 24 for pure ownage later in the history of that game. They all had an economy all depending on how you participated.

Will we see gold farmers in this game? Probably , but even the devs have stated it is something they have worked on from the get go to prevent. (Probably monitoring tools etc) So while we will undoubtly see farmers, I don't think it will be to large. Finally all you have to do is yell at that fellow guild mate who told you he just spend cash to get gold in a game so he could buy that ultimate over priced armor peice. Most people who buy gold tell someone, it is the way for them to say "See I have something uber too!" in the end these games are again all about what I have and you don't , what makes me better then the next guy. You can try to argue that all you like, but really think about it and what each MMO has in comon then come back and comment. It is all about , level, collect, being better then the next guy and braging rights.

edit: Oh I should also add community, friends, and fun, but I was making a point :)

    Imo therein lies the answer.

Gold won't be as important in WAR as in other games. If everybody has enough gold then there is not much of a market for gold-sellers now isn't there?

IMO, economy will take a back seat in this one... or rather it won't be as much gold-based than what is the norm. Remember that historically money-based economy is just one of the options. Medieval economies revolved around tithes and honor... gold didn't play much part there.

Really the Renown points are more like cash than gold, since you can use renown to unlock  new gear, skills, and so forth,  from my understanding. Tome of Knowledge unlocks things as well.

Renown can't be bought from a Chinese farmer either, you earn it yourself and you can't trade it away to someone.
