WoW or EQ2...

I am currently playing SWG and in the process of leaving due to a complete letdown by soe. I have played AC1 back in the day for 3 years strait and am a hardcore pvper.

Heres wat i think so far,

EQ2: Awesome graphics, most immersive mmorpg i have ever seen, no pvp system, combat looks a little boring, forced grouping?? made by those money sucking soe bastards who care nothing for the gamers except when it comes to money. (can u beleive soe wont let u have 2 characters per server unless u actually go out, buy another copy of the game, and get another account and pay 15 bucks a month???!?)

WoW: Graphics are....meh...., somewhat immersive, ok pvp system except the death penalties are way too soft, combat and gameplay looks aweswome, made by blizzard who have never to my knowledge released any games that have not been A++.

Give me some info that i can use in deciding which to go into, thanks :)

Played: The Realm, AC1, DAoC, AC2, Planetside, Earth and Beyond, Lineage1

Now Playing: SWG

Dude, are you that daft?  Posting on the WoW board and asking which one, WOW or EQ2....  Duh!  Of course they gonna say WoW.

WoW graphics are based off the Warcraft graphics. Which is what makes it unique and why I like it. Also hoping the changes to PvP will make PvPing worthwhile now.

I feel that the factional PVP system itself is enough to put it over the top. It gives a sense of conflict and danger that is missing from games like EQ. I like to immerse myself in a character and feel like there is some purpose for my fighting. Not just arbitrarily slaughtering predictable AI for loot.

WOW brings something new and exciting to the table that wont be there in EQ2. Even if they announced today that they plan to implement it in the future....DONT YOU BELIEVE IT!!  This is the same company that released a Star Wars MMO without any spaceships and even more than a year after its release have not managed to deliver half of what they promised at release.

My money is on WOW and blizzard for being a solid stand up company that actually listens to the gamers who buy their products.

    Choose WOW.

I dont think you're allowed to say you are in the EQ2 beta, so ill just say that I have played the WOW stress test and *dream* about playing EQ2.  WOW is far superior at this point and I feel will be hailed as the better of the 2 for the casual gamer, and along with fanboys of Blizzard.  Lvling is easier, but the game is also much more complete.  EQ2 has a long way to go..and if they hold to the plan of releasing this year no matter what, they will be releasing a very incomplete product (although all MMORPG's are).

Both games look good to me, very promising.  I have quibbles and issues with both though.  For EQ2 I kind of dislike that there are only two areas to start in, but that could be profitable for gameplay if done the right way.  SOE not including PvP is going to be a very big mistake I think, and they'll probably have to rectify that if they want to get ahead.

For WoW I thought the graphics could have been done slightly better, particularly with some of the modeling for the characters.  I think the faces for the orcs are all scrunched up (miss the square jawed grunts from WC3).  The hands for most races are like big carved blocks attatched to the wrists.  I really dislike the overall model for the Tauren, but that's irrelevant considering I dislike the Tauren race anyway.  My only other concern is that WoW is going to get a lousy playerbase with trolls and b.net children running rampent and ruining the game.  Other than that, WoW looks like a great game, and does have the potential to beat out EQ2.

At this moment I'm leaning more towards EQ2, but I may switch to WoW.  Both interest me very much and I'll be giving both a try.  Hopefully, one of them will appease my MMO appetite...  image

The graphics argument seems to be a neverending one.

I'll just say that I personally am very happy with WoW graphics.  They do use fewer polygons than some other games, but that means that my lower end machine can handle it.  What's great is that they took the lower end graphics and made them look gorgeous

That said, since I do have a lower end system, there is no choice between WoW and EQII for me.  EQII would probably run horribly on my machine.  However, based one what I've read and playing the stress test for hours and hours on end...I know I'm absolutely hooked on WoW and would probably like it better anyway.

I'm in that same boat as well.  If I get EQ2 I'll have to run it on super low settings or get an upgrade on my machine, and I'm not a big fan of running stuff on low settings.  I hope its enough for me to test the gameplay out on it though, because I currently can't afford to do an upgrade.

Don't get me wrong though, I love the style of WoW's graphics as well.  The world itself, from what I've seen of the screengrabs and the movie flicks (I missed out on the stress test sadly enough :( ) look amazing, a definate world I would want to be a part of.  Most of my interest in EQ2 stem from personal reasons actually, and I might just drop them and go with WoW if I enjoy the open beta enough.  image

After participating in the stress test of WoW, it went from "not very interesting" to the game I'm currently most likely to be playing this winter. However, I'm reserving my judgement on EQ2 until I can actually check it out. Beta is supposed to be expanding quickly in the coming weeks, so hopefully the chance to test it will come sooner than later.

SWG was a huge dissapointment to me. Looking at the forums today, I see that a lot that was broken or missing at the end of beta is still messed up or absent today. SOE really lost my respect with SWG, but I'm still willing to give the EQ2 devs the benefit of the doubt until I can actually play it.

For now, it's just impossible to make an informed decision EQ2 vs. WoW. :)

I'm really hoping that they will both overlap each other for a portion of their Open Beta periods. When you actually have access to both, the one you end up playing more than the other will be the winner and that may not always be the one you may have predicted ahead of time...

I'm having the same problem deciding, however.... I'm leaning toward WoW. Was in the stress test and got hooked. Should be called World of Warcrack. Blizzard always produces winners so I'm leaning that way. However I've been following EQ2 for years hoping that maybe SOE would pull their collective heads out and actually make a fun game, Like EQ was back in the first couple years after it started.

To be honest looking at your post I think niether game is for you. You seem to have a wishy washy opinion on both. You yourself may not want to narrow the field to both these games, look at some of the others coming out, these two don't look like you may like them. WoW is my personal favorite, and I am pre-ordering it, but any opinion I give you here wouldn't be equal.

for me it would be WoW hands down if it hadnt been for them splitting the playerbase into continents and i dont wanna play on euro servers with all the french and german speaking people...and having to wait to euro release then wait a couple of months just to be able to switch to US servers just seems bogus to me....

Nice to see the votes swinging towards WoW.  For me, WoW all the way.  I am comfortable with my decision based on my learning’s to date as someone who has been following both.  WoW is a very nice improvement over it's predecessors and seems to do everything a little bit bit better. . .so even a little bit better is a better investment for my dollar.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Graphics – WoW because the graphics are clean, simple, not overly complex, they render wonderfully and don’t require a huge investment in processing or memory which allows for smoother game-play.  Anyone choosing very high-end graphics is making the wrong decisions about why one game should be preferred over another.  80% of the EQII community will not be able to take advantage of anything more than the lowest graphics setting, and at that level the graphics detail are not pleasant at all.

Immersion – WoW because the storyline and quests lead to rewarding outcomes and can be intertwined with other stories and quests.  In addition, PvP has purpose and the game-play is designed with PvE and PvP in mind, though it should carry more weight in terms of forcing people into player interactivity, but the direction is great.  EQ have never been design with breadth and depth of balanced PvE and anything relating to meaningful role or game-play immersive PvP.

Quests – WoW allows for quest accomplishment with a nice blend of difficulty, ease of use, types, reward, adventuring, exploration and game-play immersion and story telling.  Both games will have many npc’s that when engaged provide different quests, but seems like WoW makes the process less labor and downtime intensive minimizing the amount of time spent in-game searching over a very long period of time for a particular npc, site, location, etc.  WoW is more questing friendly, not too simple by any means, just less labor intensive and a better use of my game-play with less aimlessly running around time.  EQII gives the impression and I’d be concerned that it would be a much more laborious and confusing questing system with little to no descriptiveness of how you should accomplish your task, where the task needs to be accomplished, leading to too much wasted in-game time yelling for help and traveling in a completely different direction than that which should be taken.  Though If your interested in quantity over quality, then EQII may be the choice.  But WoW seems to have the better balance of quantity and quality.

Environment – WoW seems to be a much less crowded and adventuring friendly environment that invites players to explore without feeling like a rat caught in a maze.  EQII seems to be very claustrophobic. . .the cities, and wilderness environments seem very confining and because of that, not very fun to get around in or explore.

General game-play:  WoW seems like down-time between encounters is minimized by not having to spend a quarter of your game-play time resting to regenerate stamina or mana or fear of getting continuously pinned in by non-escapable gauntlet of mobs.  The WoW adventuring fear factor is there, but it is manageable.  With EQII, I have gotten the impression that you’d need an army of players to help keep you safe from the mobs in order to make it to the simplest destination safely.  With WoW, seems like though all mmorpgs have a healthy degree of mob bashing in order to advance, the WoW game-play environment and style of game-play will probably take much more of the sting out of the tread-millish feeling with their perceived more friendly questing system and less down-time game-play style.  If you want to stick with the tedious game-play that EQ is known for, then WoW is not for you.

Id say go WoW. Although I havent actually played EQ2 or experienced WoW PvP ( i played stress test) from the looks of it WoW PvP is pretty good and EQ2 doesnt have any. If your finances allow it, buy both of them then stick with the one u like most heh.

Nice to see some actual thought behind responses for a change.... ::::39::

I'm tending toward EQ2 myself as I like crafting and character variability. Unfortunately WoWs appearance choices are a bit lacking. Not too fond of everyone doing the same quests either. I like quests tailored to my class.

That being said, I'm still open, but am leaning the EQ2 way. I'll know better after they have their open beta (yes, they did say last week that there will be an open beta).

WoW,  I'm not into MMORPG's ATM, so I'm going with the best to check it out.

EDIT Played Stress test for WoW and had a great time, lots of fun.  Glad it wasn't like playing D2 online.

It looks great but somehow its to great it dont have that great feeling that WoW had on me.

First beginner island is very nice i thought wow this game is great but then when you go to free port to many loading screens instand zones small maps stupid mobs not exploring in open world well i gonne play bit more to see how it is but for now now EQ2:7 World of warcraft 8.5 if pvpimplemented as they just anouce for me it will be a 9!!!

I had alot of fun during the WoW stress test. To be honest I was more looking forward to EQ2 before I got to try WoW, the stress test completely changed that. I'm an addict without a fix now, not counting on getting lucky and getting into Closed Beta so i'm really looking forward to Open. The graphics aren't for everyone, then again they weren't for me at first but grew on me, after a couple hours I loved them. The gameplay is awesome though.
