Should AOC have been released Fall or Winter?

AOC would have saved itself some stronger subscription numbers had it released at a later date, no doubt.  But every MMORPG in at least the past 3-4 years has been that way.  Ie) Vanguard, EQ2, WOW, etc.  Now it's practically expected that you pay for beta the first few months you buy an MMORPG.

So why are MMORPG's released so early if they have all these problems at launch?  Is it because they run out of money?  They run out of time?  They don't have enough testers so they get the MMORPG enthusiasts to do it?  What is AOC's excuse?

Anyone care to enlighten me?

It should have been released when it was ready to be released and not before.  Funcom are indeed responsible for releasing early but I have no doubt that financial issues forced their hand a little.  The owners of the IP must also carry some of the responsibility for allowing a small, piss poor company to have it in the 1st place.  By this time next year AoC will be all but dead.

Winter 2009 would have been appropriate.

As it stands, I used to be one the biggest supporters of the game, and repeated failures to improve performance and make good on false promises has led me to both cancel my sub, as well as highly degraded my opinion of FunCom as company.

When players use the expression "paying to beta test" it is a reality with AoC in its current state, a sad reality, from a game with alot of potential to be great.

Rock a FailCom avatar now and express your disgust with pride!

    The truth hurts...

While a 2009 release would have made AoC a much stronger and complete game at release it would still have not fixed the major long term flaw of the game, its poor combat system.  A 2010 releasew with a complete combat and class revamp would have have been the only way to save the game and make it worthwhile to play longer than a month or two.

Releasing it 2 years late didnt help (was suppose to be spring of 2006), what good would a couple more months do?

If it had released after WAR and the WOW xpack the sales would have been much much lower, maybe half as much.  The retention would have been higher though so in the end it probably evens out.
