Federation Captain or a Klingon Warrior?

BodyBuilderBodyBuilder Member Posts: 176

I hope they introduce more races.

"You Are the Captain: Command your own starship as a Federation Captain or a Klingon Warrior. Outfit it with the systems that you need to make your mark in the galaxy. Customize your ship as you see fit. Recruit, train and mold your crew into an elite force for exploration and combat."

I hope so too, does anyone know which Show Timeframe the game is in? Such as Next Generation, Original, Deep Space 9, etc.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

No idea, but I just signed up on the offical forums and I'm going to (again) follow this MMORPG.

Since they talked about Fire Caves, I guess Next Generation; however there is obviously going to be Federation v Klingon PvP, which would fit better with TOS.

New races are bound to be in the expansions :)

I'll play a Klingon, as long as ships Dosn't fit in player charcter pockets, then I'm out there faster than a teleport beam.

Same time line and affairs that PE were giving us on the STO.net forums girls and boys, hopefully with all the original races they had in before (Ferengi, Human, Vulcan, Klingon, Tellarite,Andorian,Bajoran, Cardassian,Trill, One more I can't remember now).

If that's true it's a bit odd they're using the original series font on the logo.  Also the mention of the choice between a "Starfleet Captain" or "Klingon Warrior" made me think of the original series era climate of Starfleet versus Klingons.  Possibly in a faction versus faction set up like WoW, WAR and Aion, among others.

    edit for spelling

i think i'd try them both.  it's too early to say witout knowng anything about the differences between the races and the  various ships' characteristics.

Just because you are a "Federation Captain" doesn't mean you are human.  I imagine there will be quite a few Federation races available.

What you really want is more "factions", I think.  I'd personally love to see the Borg, the Dominion, and the Romulans as playable.

The history of Star Trek games is easily as spotty, if not worse, than Star Wars games.  One of the best Trek games I have ever played was Klingon Academy back in the mid to late 90's.  Hopefully the Klingon path will be almost as fun as that game was.  Federation have far too many rules and restrictions! :D

Thank you for pointing that out.  I was cleared up on that on the offical forums too.

Races and "factions" would be swell.  I know in the Federation they accept many types of races, but I truly do hope to see more then Federation and Klingons.

Also this is a MMORPG for console too...

I would at first play as a federation citizen...most likely Starfleet...then maybe a civilian if available....then later try my hand as a Klingon....if nothing else just to see what its like on the other side.

    heh,

We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own, your culture will adapt to service us.  Borg playable would be cool, Captain! incoming blob on long range sensors...

Personally I'd like to see more player factions, such as the major races in the Alpha/beta quadrants, and have them vie for control of planets via pvp battles, similar to the port battles in Pirates of the Burning Sea.

I guess it would have to be a renewed period of hostility between all the races in the quadrants though, but it could be a lot of fun battling over different planets in space.

I don't think that should be the main focus though, I'd like to see exploration, neutral space (non-pvp), crafting, some scripted missions, ground exploration on planets/away teams, social interactions, guild starbases, etc.

I woud think they would give us the choice of many different races.  Personally no matter how many choices I have, Im always going to choose Starfleet.  I love what it stands for, I love the intergrity of its members.  Then again, I'm sure all the races will have their own strengths and weaknesses.  I was going to mention:  It would cool to be able to choose the Borg.  But one, the borg would have been destroyed by then.  Two, actually... playing as the Borg wouldn't have been very fun....

I'm with you. I love Starfleet. I started watching Star Trek at a very young age and was quite disappointed when I realized I couldn't attend Starfleet Academy (we also started tlaking colleges very early on).

Also, I currently play CoX. While I have dozens of alts, I have less than 10 villains. I just can't play the bad guy. My main villain is even a thermal corruptor - a healer. If the Borg/Dominion were playable, I'd probably try them out, but get uncomfortable and switch back to Starfleet.

Don't know if I could play a Klingon or not, but at least it would give me use for my English/Klingon dictionary.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

How about the Maquis? I want to be a Maquis Captain ;)

The way i understood it, you start from either the federation or the empire but you still get to choose from a bunch of different races.

It makes sense for the federation as many races are part of it, but not so much for the empire. Who knows, maybe that made up some story to rationalize the presence of non-klingons within the empire.

Borg as a playable race? How possibly would they balance that? And arent they a collective with slaves who have no will of their own but has to do what the Borg Queen wants?

Dont see how they can be a playable race and at the same time follow the IP.

  • PunisherXPunisherX Member Posts: 231

I agree... I don't see how the Borg can be a playable race. Don't get me wrong, it would be cool. Being able to assimilate an enemy vessel's crew into the collective. Take over whole planets.... But i can't see it being any more than an enemy NPC. That's just me...
