I picked CoX because Champions has the worse set of graphics than any MMO ive seen. I do find graphics having a part to play in the whole picture of an enjoyable game environment; right up there with balance issues, gameplay, lore, customer service, etc.
Graphics are horrible in Champions.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I would be surprised if Champion is anywhere close to CoX.
Hopefully, CoX is about to expand with a new setting. New twists, new rules, new setting. I am definitely looking forward to a City of Medieval-Fantasy or whatever they have in mind.
I will try Champion, but it really seem to be turning as an arcade game, with some RPG elements...yet who know...this definition could describe Diablo or Diablo III as well.

Based on what Ncsoft has done in the past I think it is highly unlikely. They simply do not do paid expansions for their subscription based games unless they have changed their stance all of sudden.
It's a bit to early to choose which will be the better one as champions is not even in beta yet and has had hardly any information released.
But from what iv seen so far CO look's promising I'm an old school COH player and loved it still is one of my favorite mmo's to date but needs more as it got boring so maybe CO will bring that to the table.
From the screens and vids so far it looks basically the same with some tweaks one of the obvious one is the graphics which in my opinion suits a super hero mmo allot better than what CoX has atm its more comic book style which i like.
But at the end of the day if CO delivers it will be a great mmo and defiantly better than CoX i look forward to playing.
PS: unless ofc DCUO shines more than CO then I'm in a bit of a pickle but again DCUO has not had enough information yet.

CoX vs CO probably but the way SOE does their things, I honestly don't think SOE will do well with competing, they're often busy with themselves in sucking cash from their customers than worrying how well the game does compared to others.
Champions is being made by the same company that mad CoH. It is just going to be a much better game than CoH. It is CoH 2.
They can try to change the way things work in the game, but it will stil ring as CoH 2. The characters look about the same just with a different shading engine over otop of them.
It's like Square Enix making an RPG that is not Final Fantasy. It will still reak of the FF flavor. IT will still have an Ifrit, masume, ultima, mana. It just has a different cast of characters with a tweak to the gameplay. Same goes for this title. It has the same character options plus a lot of extras. Same flashy action, just with better effects.
The newest screen shot is horrible compared to the others I've seen on their site.

honestly, that's like saying if blizzard made starcraft2/diablo3, it'd be the same company making it. yes it's the same COMPANY... but it's not the people that made the starcraft or either of the diablos. same thing with wow2... yes, it's blizzard; but it's not the people that made the game.
CO has... emmert... who else? who else that's been working on COx all this time, is working on CO?
i'm not being a smart-alec. as far as i know, the only person from COx to go over to CO, is emmert. ever since emmert left COx... it has done nothing but improve.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
1. Graphics are cartoony and kiddy( gameplay can overcome this ex: LOZ: Windwaker)
2. Becuz its on a console it doesnt have alot of room to improve(especially graphics wise) becuz COX could one day do a big graphics overhaul - CO couldnt becuz it is being built off the 360, which would mean only very minor tweaks can be made w/o lagging up and killing 360 users
Gameplay being (roughly) equal, I'll play whiche ever game gives me more customization options. I know customization is mid-to low on most peoples' lists, but it is righ there at the top of mine!
For the most part I would say CoX. Cryptic would want to make something distinctly different from CoX so they would seem to be copying the game they sold. They would, however, have to make it similar enough to draw in comic fans or fans of the old pen/paper rpg. They did mention that every player will have an arch-nemesis. A npc that will harass the player throughout his heroic career. If they could pull that off, that could be the thing that tips the game in their favor.
honestly, is that true? Imagine having a nemesis. That would be amazing. And you wont actually be able to defeat them till end game. and it wouldnt be easy. SICKER
The thing that pisses me off about the nemesis it that had been suggested for years and statesman said it couldn't be done. I wonder if me made a list of coh suggestions and saved them for his followup game.
I have a dislike of Jack E. since a lot of the creative choices he made for CoH were what made the game BAD (gimped support classes, slow lvling, forced grouping, CoV as a standalone game instead of an addition with new classes and villainous options)
I've been playing Champs PnP since the early 80's, and would love a game that was somewhat true to the game, but I don't have a lot of faith in Jack E. That said, I'll give anyting a chance.
Have not done a whole lot of research on Champions but from what I have seen, it looks like it will be a hell of a lot of fun. Im not a big fan of the graphics style, but if the combat and gameplay is executed well, I'll definately get the game. I'm a big fan of CoX, as I find it to be very entertaining, fast paced and casual. No doubt if Champions is a success, it will replace CoX for me, mainly because of CoX's age. Then again perhaps CoX will be better than Champions for quite some time to come, as it's had years to improve. Time will tell I guess.
I personally think at this point it time CoX is better (just my opinion), it has over 5 years of content, but CoX has already hit it peak. CoX isn't going to get much better, unless they change the whole platform (which isn't going to happen). Champions has lot more potential, it just needs some polishing, it doesn't have a restrictive platform, like Cox has. Champions just needs some time, like all good MMO's.
Champions had a flashy entrance but the early swarm has already moved back to WoW and is waiting for the next new thing. (Whatever that is. Probably SW:TOR) Now CO is in the stage where they have to hold their population and let those core fans sustain them.
I could see how people would prefer Champions combat to CoH, favoring the blocking technique and prolonged combat. I personally prefer the 1 vs many approach of CoH and the fast pace, so that has appeal to.
I can understand that people who cut their teeth on WoW (or it's clones) would be more comfortable spotting contacts with (!) over their heads. I don't however, so a contact list and a map marker is better.
The single-server model is excellent however, and IMHO CoH should find a way to do that. One benefit of this is that names no longer have to be player unique. However, apparently at HeroCon they asked those assembled and those players said overwhelmingly that they LIKE unique names. Which is a bit of an obstacle to server merges.
(I would caution NC to remember that hardcore fans who attend cons don't necessarily represent the bulk of players.)
Other than that, CoH certainly has more but that's not a fair comparison. I think the two games can do well by appealing to different audiences, and perhaps help each other just by getting more attention to Hero MMOs in general.
I mostly agree with the post above. There are definitely some CoX players that would enjoy CO right now, but the majority of them probably don't need it yet.
Pros:
The combat is faster (like everyone has speed boost etc all the time).
The xbox 360 controller works great and is very comfortable for an MMO (repetitive stress concerns in my case).
My characters feel more customizable, I have already created more of them than in years of playing CoH. The reason is that because of the open build system I am less constrained by the game and create a way bigger variety of characters that are aesthetically and effectively satisfying.
Cons:
Community and teaming are on life support. Open builds = no classes, plus lots of solo friendly content, adds up to a public teaming situation that pales compared to CoH. If you play CoH by public grouping, or can't bring any SGmates / RL friends with you to CO, then now is not the time to switch.
Don't get me wrong, teaming is very fun and deep, and we do have a role system that allows you to dynamically choose your class (e.g. more hp, more damage, or stronger heals/CC) during a team battle. It's just that the game does not force you to team to get good xp, so the xp while teaming is only slightly better, and without vent or hardcore players it's often slower due to coordination issues. It would even be fair to say the game does not directly reward you for teaming the way CoX does, and this has led to people forming public teams for a single mission and then disbanding.
The complaints people have about content are only partially incisive, because in fact they are partially complaining about the lack of replayability that comes from the lack of teaming. Even when the game was full of players at launch, there was still very little teaming! Moving forward, Cryptic will need to add more incentive for teaming, and how they will do this remains a mystery, without reverting back to the same old MMO class-based weak-solo paradigm. Whether or not they succede determines the success, and that is why most players should not switch yet, unless (a) you want to get really creative and make tons of characters that you could never make before or (b) you bring a friend.
combat in co can end up button mashing two attacks.ranged is > than melee by far.their are problems in the costum creator an i cant make my coh toons in co .capes their lack alot an when i played would disapear an have to reloadthe costume.flight animation was jerky like bad wire work or a kid playing with his toys feel.

I actually just finally voted, for CoH, of course. CO is basically marvel ultimate alliance online and that statement is only damning if you don't like MUA. Unfortuantely, for me, that kind of implementation for an mmo is -- it felt like a shallow, single-player game with little to no replayability and some crafting tacked on to boot. *shrug* Not for me.
I have to say I spent most of my time in Champions fondly reminising about COH. I think it is a step backwards in terms of gameplay, a step backwards in content, and a step backwards in value for money.
IMO, the only qualities that CO has over CoX is the physical character customization (graphics), costume slots earlier, a somewhat better traveling system that is earlier (more choices in travel powers) and a more open power selection process. When I say "a more open power selection process", I'm referring to not being pigeon-holed with what powers to choose. To me, this is a good thing. However, with Cryptic, I feel they screwed up the process with not enough information on what powers actually do or influence. So, people can't make informed decisions. Also, there are too many "useless" powers in CO atm. Though, the power house is a great idea for people to test certain powers to see if they would like them or not.
However, I feel that the gameplay, game world, storylines, and character progression (leveling speed and gaps) are inferior when compared to CoX.
