Ok, will try to make this short and sweet. Big into games. Keep up with buzz about games I don't even play.
1.) Some time back there was a big to do about some group or organization having an inside track to the makers of the game. Getting people they disliked banned by calling a friend. Was this ever resolved either way if it was true or not?
2.) How is the economy? Do they take a hard stance against buying Isk from RTM's? Or is it pretty rampant?
3.) If you had to do it all over again, starting new. What site would you like to have had (or maybe did have) that can explain a lot of the game (jobs, classes, crafts, etc). Is there a wiki?
4.) Are there specific servers or is everything ran all together? Any foreign players? (Japanese, European, etc)?
Thanks for your help everyone.

2) Economy is very dynamic and one of the nice sides the game. RMT; Youll be banned /or all isk (eve currency) will be removed from your wallet if CCP decides you bought isk. Actually you can buy GTCs and sell at official eve forum for eve currency .there is a section at eve forum to sell GTCs so i dont see any reason for RMT
3) official forum has a lot of usefull info ,go and hang out there 2-3 days before opening a character.Starting attributes are important look some info for about them.iirc there is/was a wiki but im not it's user
4)One server only ,players are from all over the world
1) There was some stuff that went on, was corrected by Dev team. People still make a big deal about it because that is what people do. It had no effect on the vast majority of people in the game and is a non-issue now in my opinion.
2) The economy is completely player driven and cool. RMT is as much of a problem here as any other game, they do their best to stay on top of it but where there is demand there is supply.
3) Join Eve University corp ASAP, otherwise do the tutorial and run some missions to learn the interfaces, how tanking, targeting and moving works. For the most part if you can find the right corp they will teach you all you need to know. Fly cheap stuff and don't be afraid to lose it. Experiment with setup and br creative, thats what makes the game fun.
4) We are all in it together, thats what makes it great. 25K-40K online simultaniously, with around 225K unique subscribers you can interact with. The only way to play IMO. There is a China only server due to Chinese law, but otherwise US/NA, UK/Euros, and everyone else play on the same server.
1.) Two years ago a Dev got caught spawning rare BPOs and giving them to an alliance (the Dev was punished although not as severly as alot would have liked). Once this was uncovered and out in the open a lot of assumptions starting flying around that people in that alliance had personal phone numbers, msn info, etc... of Devs and that they would call up these Devs and have them rig their fights in their favor. This was never proven and honestly is a bit far fetched. In a game like Eve losing means a lot and often the losing side will start grasping at straws to find a reason for losing. This includes accusations of Dev cheating.
2.) Best economy of any mmo on the market. Its very cutthroat and competitive. RMT isn't as bad in Eve as other mmos mainly because GTCs can be sold for in-game currency.
3.) There are tons of sites out there now so its hard to choose a few good ones because there are so many but I wish they had EVEMon and Eve Fit when I was new. It would have made things soooo much easier.
4.) Its all on one server with people from all over the world playing.
Concernign 1 its was a alliance called bob, they didnt aget a guy banned just by phonign a friend. THe guy rvealed real life info on someoen important in bob i think and he got banned for that. The leader of BOB has ties to the devs. But atm they are very neutral.
Gl getting into eve, i rly loved it but after 4 months i realised that I was missing the traditional mmorpg genre, might come back when my alliance needs pilots but atm retired.
o btw bob might not be so mighty and pwoerful by end of the year, something about RA and goon titans
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
My suggestion would be to buy a years subscription and do nothing but train learning skills then do this again for a total of 3yrs then start playing and hope the recent NGE speed nerfs continue to other areas and make the game more new player friendly. If you do not then stay in high section space and hope you don't get ganked. Never fly a ship you can not afford to relplace and always insure it and your skills. Good Luck

I see a bit of good advice in, never fly what you can't afford to lose, and always fly insured.
The rest is plain silliness, IMO, and very ill-informed advice.
except, mind you, that the leader of bob, molley, did the same thing -- he revealed real life info on someone and urged them to call that guy's work and get him fired. both did it on eve-o. non-bob guy gets banned from the game. bob/molley gets told "hey you shouldn't do that, good buddy".
no exaggeration. anyone that says it didn't happen is either lying outright, or simply has no idea what they are talking about.
that is what you can expect in eve. period. to think you're playing on a level playing field is foolish.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
To actually believe this is not only foolish, but trademark of people who can't compete.
Playing field isn't level? Who cares, EVE gives you the tools to overcome even that issue. Come join the fun.

Thanks for the information everyone. I'll probably give the trial a shot. One last question though. Is this game mod friendly? Do they allow helpful/useful mods of any kind?

Trial it, decide for yourself. The politics that Devs impact are beyond anything you will ever be involved in this late starting Eve. For you, it's Grand Theft Auto in space. Pimp a HAC and raise some hell.
