Why US only??

Why with some of these games like EQ2 do you have to be a US citizen to get into beta?

same reason Korean mmorpg's are only for koreans

    Many reasons.

    • Players should have decent ping times
    • Players will (probably) speak same language as developer
    • Players all from nearly the same timezone will probably play at same time
    • Players in same time zone as developers gives the developers a better chance of knowing qwhen the players will play to monitor the game
    • NDA is enforceable

And that is just the few I can think of...

Thnx TaskyZZ that sums it up.

Yeah TaskyZZ said it best. I think the #1 reason is the NDA, as enforcing it in other countries would be much more difficult.

Actually the fact of most players in the same timezone would make the game have ghost houtrs, that wouldnt be nice

    Played- Runescape, Conquer

    Tested- EQ, RYL, Freeworld

Yes it would, because many players won't be playing at 4am, and the developers won't have to have anybody at work at 4am to monitor it.

It is best for the developers to know when the majority of the players are going to play, so they can be watching at that time. It is important for them to be playing/watching whats going on when there are lots of players on.

So what happens to the person like me?  I'm on at 4:30am... I get stuck and I send out a message to a GM...

"We're not in right now... sorry, you'll have to stay stuck untill 9:30am Eastern Standard Time, Thank you"

I would quit the game if something ever happened like that.

What the heck are you talking about?

Just last week SoE let in loads of europeans and plan a release date to be within a week of the US release.

Some mmorpg do have this policy but i doubt SoE is guilty of it.Heck they are allowing euro and NA to play on same server when game goes live even if they so choose.

Well, consider we are talking about beta. If you get stuck and there is none to help you online at that time, then you just have to live with it. And you are threatening to quit? let's see, they are letting you play their beta for free. I bet you don't hurt their feelings if you quit.

    I would rephrase that.

"Because the US think they are the center of the universe"

    That would be correct

No, he was right. The U.S. is the center of the universe--the gaming universe. What other country buys as many games? What other country makes as many great games? Other than some asian countries, nobody. So, maybe you cry babies should get a gaming market, then you'll start seeing more betas for you.

Yes, America is the center of the gaming universe.  It's all sociological though.  Americans are generally rich and many of them are obsessed with games.  Most other countries aren't like that.  You can't say, get a gaming market, because it's sociologically impossible.  I ma an American, but I can relate to others because I live in Taiwan.  I guess there is nothing to do but put up with it, because it isn't changing any time soon.

You're right. Apart from the countries that buy as many games as the U.S., no country buys as many games as the U.S.

    Nice one mate ::::28::
