Spellweaving: Myth or Reality?

I've always been interested in AoC's spellweaving system that they talked about while it was in development.  Unfortunately, me being on my crappy mac, I can't actually play the game.

So, is there anyone out there who has tried the spellweaving system?  I'd like to know how it works, and if you thought it was fun.

Thanks,

Hopefully I should be able to find out for myself next time I login as I just hit Level 50 last time I played.

I did ask someone in my guild, but he just said 'A recipe for getting yourself killed really quickly'.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

I have not played a magic caster after level 40 but I see some of my friends use it.

At level 40 the caster gets some sort of stance he can go into witch gives him a boost at a cost. Usually some health dmg. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Mostly used for group play.

i thought it sucked. and never used it on my 80 POM and 72 demonologist. the way it "works" is you click the spell-weave icon then after a few seconds maybe 3 a row of about 5 icons appear in the middle of the screen and they are spells that do things like.. increase your chance to crit, do full spell damage, replenish stamina.. as you spell-weave your stamina goes down then when your stam is gone it uses your health fast then you die unless you click spell-weaving off.  only useful on boss fights because the enemy is dead before you could use it at all. and im not so sure about SW's usefulness on boss fights.

What happens if someone attacks you during this?  Also, since you can't move, do you find yourself ever using it in PvP?

hehe spellweaving during PVP is a death sentence. and if you click it there is a cooldown so you cant stop right after you start. if you get hit while weaving you take damage as normal but you cant be knocked down.

    Its real, and its awesome.

Its exactly what it sounds like, yo start putting together spells and it builds up, and it is truly glorious.

Best spell animations in any game.

problem is it needs to be balanced a bit it seems like the others were talking about

    I play all ghame

I experienced "Spellweaving" and i rarely used it.

When you get it (at mid level range) and you grind your way up solo or in a group, it is pointless as it takes too long to cast and too much stamina and power to use. You are much quicker to just use single nukes.

In PvP it is a death sentence as you are suspended for some time without being able to do anything (unless you interrupt).

The only use Spellweaving has, that i could see anyway, is in PvE Raiding. That is the only time you have the time required to go max strenght and utilize the full power of it. But even there it is risky because if you are up against a raid boss that does AoE damage, you run the risk of dying as well and then your DPS would be zero obviously.

In short - it looks absolutely awesome. The animation and spell particles are among the best i have seen. The sound effects rock. But it's a useless eyecandy feature.

Having been in the beta, and not having had Spellweaving until the very end (last 2 weeks i think it was), it's also quite clear that the feature was rushed in towards the end to give casters their "combo" version and try to make them slightly cooler.  It has not been tested and thought through properly and really should have remained a cut feature and implemented properly at a later stage.

Wow. I didn't realize it had become like that.

In the videos before release, I thought it looked friggin amazing. But now that I think about it, they always showcased it in a spot with no enemies attacking them, and no players around.

That really sucks. Sounds like a horrible implementation of the concept.

    *sigh*

I used it for show off.  In terms of usefullness in PVE or PVP - its big fat zero.  Its another failed system that this game has to offer.  Absolutly no thinking put into it.

Its not hard to make spellweaving into a game like AOC.  But when you fail at the first hirdle (having to stand still for 10-40 sec to do anything) then there isn't much hope.
