This -SHOULD- mean that there is open beta soon. I really, really hope we've been given atleast 2-3 weeks to try it out.

Well...I'm sure Open Beta's very soon compared to waiting for a game. But GameStop always had bad things with guessing with about anything...But I'm thinking they should only give us like 1-2weeks for Open Beta and 1week for Early Access,or maybe 3-4days...Just guessing like GS is :P
Mythic themselves have stated that if it isn't at least 6 weeks of open beta you should worry because it means there's stuff to hide

I thought MJ said it was 4 weeks. Any less and you should worry and more means they have more confidence.

What WAS the date? Was it on the site as the 23rd as EA's site had listed it? Was it longer?
While I typically don't trust Gamestop any farther than I can throw them, it's pretty good timing to change the release date backwards.

CE buyers are guaranteed a spot in the open beta, which is typically 4 weeks before release, give or take -- I'm not sure if it's listed in the FAQ on this forum (though I'm... pretty sure it's on the official site's FAQ somewhere), but it's been said through various interviews with the staff.

Why does everyone want beta to last so long? A month is way to long. Two weeks is just fine. Buy the game when it launches if you want to play that long. I have a CE pre-order.

The Release Date via Amazon's site is also September 16th. So we know they're not alone.
I'd rather have the Open beta as long as possible to give them more then enough time to stress their servers out over and over so they have a great launch. Unlike most of the mmo's that have been previously released!.

The Developers always play this game with every mmorpg , MJ will be coy and say it will ship when it will ship and so on but Gamestop (and Amazon lately) are always notified behind the scenes of a likely date before the "official announcment" is made -
Vanbois were screaming that the late Jan date Amazon and Gamestop both suddenly locked in on and matched was impossible -
It launched they day they said it would
For marketing and organization purposes retailers are notifieid of the most likely date before officially announced - EA did tell GS and Amazon the 18th - they wouldnt have both locked in on that date - the "may change" and denials by EA and MJ give them an out in case some nightmarish bug crops up suddenly -
But Gamestop and Amazon didnt pull out a date of 18th and send out emails on a whim - they were told "unofficially" by the the official source that most likely its ready then
Two weeks for an Open Beta isn't nearly enough. CE buyers expect enough time to try different classes, try guild mechanics, try PvE and RvR with all their different classes, and generally familiarize themselves with the game, it's systems, and the terrain.
Open Beta should at a minimum be three weeks, ideally four. If Mythic's intent is to shorten the schedule this much, we can probably expect Headstart people to get in 1-2 days ahead of others, tops. Which is absolutely pathetic, and would really piss me off personally if it happened. I could care less about miniatures - give me ample time during Open Beta to figure out the game and what we're doing in it.
It better be atleast 2 weeks! That was pretty much the main reason I pre-ordered the CE. I'll be pretty pissed if we don't get into beta in August.

I disagree on one thing your saying. OB should NOT be a time to get used to game mechanics and try diffrent classes, try RvR...basicly play the game as if it was launch. Thats where so many MMO's now are screwing up royaly. Its still a BETA be it closed or Open. I really hope they still do focused testing in OB. Its still an option for them, they said they havent decided one way or the other yet.
Yes I have the CE so yes I will be in the OB. To me its still a Beta regardless. The headstart is where I cant disagree with you. I would expect at least 3-4 days. THAT is when we should be playing the game to play it, not test it. That goes for any MMO in my opinion not just WAR. Sadly times have changed though and OB is no longer for beta testing but to show off the game in hopes of getting more people to buy it.
Now, if they take that money from people, the Open Beta period should be at least a good amount of time for people to try the product, yes? Not 1-2 weeks so that Mythic can simply load balance and launch - that's cheating people who paid money to be in the Open Beta in the first place. They expect to get something for their money, and I think we all agree that miniatures and other artistic works in the CE are much less important than the Open Beta access and the Headstart.
