Poll: Are you in a guild already, will join a guild in game, or won't join a guild?

gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503

Are you in a guild already, will join a guild in game, or won't join a guild?

Do you think it's better to join a guild in game, or find one outside the game with a cool website, or what? Do you think you can play the game without joing a guild, and do you intend to so so?

I think it's best to join a guild outside the game, you learn more about players, etc. But I don't exactly know why you had to make a thread about it?....

  • PureChaosPureChaos Member Posts: 839

im starting a guild , where is that option :P

As for recruiting we plan on doing our recruiting in game and out, but gonna kinda hold off on both till open beta.

I have to disagree to the above poster on this, iv been in guilds where we just had forums that alot of us posted alot on. BUT you can only learn so much there, you can really see the true nature of a person when playing when they arnt paying attention and just doing what they do.

WAR should release soon by all indications, and I suppose now would be a good time to join a guild outside the game if that's your intention, and you havent' done so already.

I was also interested to see if anyone thought joining a guild would not be necessary.

I don't know for sure, but I think I'll join a guild that's in the game, and on the server I decide to play on, rather than deciding to play on the server a particular guild is on.

Ya that was partially my intention, more or less. But I'm already in a guild. And like I said it's best to join a guild before a game launches because there's more activity and you just meet alot more people. I met a person irl from a guild that was in my work....then after a week I quit the guild because he was the leader and was an ass lmao

It looks like I will join a guild ingame,I have done some searching in the fansite's and with having quite a few options, class, server type and also ofc which side you play it does narrow down the choice, also I will be looking for a semi-hardcore or maybe even more to the casual side of playing style.

During my search I have found a couple of guilds that matched what I was looking for but they wanted me to fill out an application, which ofc is fine but after they except your application you had to make an appointment to have an interview on teamspeak, yeah my ass I will,I already have a job thanks very much.

I guess I will just play the game and hopefully meet up with some nice players and take it from there.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

i think joining a guild is definetly helpfull for your side, but the best part is even if its a group of friends its better then not being in one, more guilds = more standerds, and then you just alliance up and numbers solved.

Same here.  I'm starting a guild with some real life friends.  Once open beta rolls around I'll setup the website and vent and what not.

I completely agree with you that you can only learn so much from forum posts and guild applications.  It comes down to playing with the person.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

That's pretty funny. I wonder what the questions would be.

So, what sort of guild experience do you have? Why'd you quit your last guild? Where do you see yourself in the guild in 5 years?

  • daylight01daylight01 Member Posts: 2,250

Indeed the guy doing the interviewing could be 15 year old and I am 35 and he asks me things like what I want be when I grow up ,nah I will wait and see how things pan out in game and take it from there, someone said in the post it is nice to join a guild pre-release to get to know them, which can be true but you can also get to know the players ingame and decide they are the guild for you, works both ways I guess.

Yeah, those interview requirements are a real turn off..  ill keep looking elsewhere thank you.

Interviews achieve nothing really - if the member turns out to be an ass (and you should be able to tell most from forum posts) then you kick him later.

Meanwhile the interview process is putting off many decent players..  and the ones that do pass can easily quit or cause trouble later anyway.

    ew a interview.

I mean a application is enough, back in WoW you had to have one for PvE since you where looking for skilled PvE players with the gear. Iv tried with making my new guild making the app very small , its mainly a get to know you thing Rather do you meet the requirments.

To bring it back in WoW terms, its like MC, you can have a couple guys who suck but are fun to play with, same goes for WAr, grab the numbers then try to teach them and see if they are fun to play with and you can take some shit over.

I really need to remove my forum signature image at some point because, while I will join a guild when I play WAR, it will not be with Oblivion.

I will try to find a guild once the game gets closer to release, or whenever I happen to get into the beta. The game is simply more enjoyable for me when I play with a well-organized group of players. Since I'm much more on the "casual" side of the coin (I have a life), I do better with larger guilds, since there I can contribute without having to be a focal point.

I actually like when I have to go through an application and probation process (so yes, they need a website), since that tells me they monitor the quality of their members. I've been in a zerg guild and it just wasn't fun for me.

I've been through a Ventrilo interview once too -- it's less about a job interview, and more about the guild getting to know the person in the chair. I can, however, understand why people could get turned off by it -- just consider it a favor, as you wouldn't be compatible with the guild leadership in that case anyway. ;)

I am going to join a guild after a few months of  release.

    Why?

Because I haven't even decided if I'm going to play Order or Destruction >.<

Plus playing outside of a guild is nice because your time isn't occupied by the guild needing you for things. You can kinda float around, and group with friends from all different guilds!

Currently Playing : WAR, UO, RL :p

LOL I am sorry but am I the only guy that lied or smiled rather than frowned in a job interview?

If the gamming world ever comes down to the fact you need to do this to join a gamming guild just so some guy gets the feeling he is important then you can count me out.

I guess if you are ok by this then fair play to you but I will take my chances of having a good time without having a 2nd boss to contend with once I come home from work.

Well I didn't join because of the interview. ;) I doubt it's commonplace simply because the guild leaders are usually too busy, like... playing the game.

It wasn't an interview in the "Q&A" sense anyway, but a "come into Vent and hang with us and we'll see how we like you" deal. I wasn't asked what color of the rainbow I wanted to be, or what flavor Starburst is my favorite, or any other psychoanalytical crap. ;)

Many guilds will make a prospective player group up with them a bit in-game before joining so they can get to know them -- that's the same thing, just done differently

If some kid decided to "read" me in a job interview, I'd probably be too busy laughing at him to answer. I figure anyone my age (26) or older would probably realize how stupid it is to bother.

Oh yes, I will not join any guild that practices grouping exclusivity or makes attendance for events mandatory. Even if I'm home at 9pm EST on a Tuesday, that doesn't mean I'm willing to pen that time in as mandatory game-playing time. Sometimes I feel like playing, sometimes I don't.

I've way-outgrown the time of my life when I can afford to be hardcore.

But like you, I have no idea yet if I'm playing Order or Destruction.

erm grim we are talking about pre-release games so how can guilds ask you to group up 1st?

We are talking about how guilds interview you 1st then give a trial period.

Since you know so much again can you explain what a guild gets to know about a player by giving him an interview pre-release then allowing the player in the guild without having grouped with that player?

This is my first pre-launch guild (Alive and Kicking Destruction) and I never have felt betetr about the launch of a title than I do now.

A poll option is, "will join a guild in-game", so it's not necessarily talking about joining during pre-release.

Feeling insulted by interviews doesn't mean you're wrong (and I say that because your tone suggests I think you are) -- you just may not be compatible with those guilds. In fact, that's really what the guild is looking to gain: some reassurance that a member they're accepting shares compatible ideals.

One could lie on that app to get into a guild, but that'd be dumb on the player's part for wanting to join a guild they see they're not compatible with. Nothing is fail-proof, but to those guilds it's better than nothing.

No big deal; you just find another place that thinks along the same wavelength as you do that'll no-doubt make you happier.

Too often have I gotten burned on a guild organizing for a new server release... only to have it vanish and peter out leaving me and maybe one or two others the only ones in a ghost town of names.

And I find the ones that talk the biggest/have the most restrictions are just more likely to fall apart.

So I will be looking in game... every game I find one or two folks I just click with instantly.. I like to see where that leads.  The fun always sorts itself out in the end.

Really excited though! I am going to actually miss AOC. hehe

(yeah you so wanted me to say 'NOT'... i know you did!)

  • gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503

Looks like the majority are waiting to play the game to join a guild. That's what I'm going to do as well. Nothing wrong with planning a guild before release, but who knows if your members will even buy the game. Of course that doesn't apply to well established guilds, that have already played in several MMO's together.

  • noblotnoblot Member Posts: 287

Ugg interviews to join a guild. I think some people have forgotten its a game and you're suppost to enjoy yourself.

I suspect that someone will talk me into joining a guild before I hit 20. Not that i have anything against guilds, its just hard to find enough time to take part in guild stuff.
