Its meant to be on the test live servers so we expected it in todays patch. heck I expected it at release, and didn't subscribe at first because it wasn't. then they promised it would be in month X so I subscribed for that month, but it still didn't come so I feel pretty cheated. I'm not going to subscribe until they put it in. I have had some fun in this game and got hundreads of kills but its all pointless at the moment.
for me good FPS pvp has always been superior in terms of combat system to MMO pvp, which made up for it by having risk vs reward. the game needs this system to be enjoyable.

Unfortunately, given FunCon's record the PvP system will be just as bugged and lacking as the PvE content was.
No one cares which MMO's you are playing or have played. Nor does anyone care what your computer specs are.
Thay will probably get it to passable working condition with a few hot fixes after it's released, but the system itself doesn't look very well designed to me. It seems like it penalizes FFA PvP. They should have a hardcore FFA PvP server with no rules except: "you wanna survive, join a guild and travel in packs."
I agree with you, and in fact love the idea. However an FFA server may not appeal to the masses of lemmings that play these games and it is possible that it would not be profitable to maintain a server like that. People get spoiled on PvE servers because there is no risk. Aggro too many mobs? Run away. They kill you? Run and rez. But on an FFA, you have to deal with not just the mobs, but every player in the vicinity which can corpse camp you to no end. Not many people have the patience/guts for that. These games are all about business and bottom lines. They do what makes them money, which is what they have to do.
Look at WoW's PvP system. Its set up so that no matter what, you will still get points. Even though the Season 3 and 4 gear require ratings for the most part, casuals who play and arent that good will still be able to get their epics because a loss in a Battleground or Arena isnt really a loss, its just a toned down win. You still get points and tokens regardless, it just takes longer. This appeals to more people because its all win/win. Hell I have an arena team that I 2 box alts with just for the easy 230 points every week. Players get something no matter what, which for the most part pleases them and they continue to pay their monthly sub. Its good business.
I think a true PvP system would be one that when you win, you get points. But when you lose, you gain nothing. Its doubtful given the "I dont give a $hit" attitdue of many these days, but I would imagine that this kind of a system would encourage people to participate more.
Just a theory.

I love the idea of a true sandbox MMO. Players craft all items above common quality, set up shops, conquer territory from other groups/gulids/gangs, buildings, boats etc all crafted. There need not be an insane grind to get the mats to create the stuff, that way, losing it wouldn't be so disheartening.
Guilds would have their own "police force" to protect their towns, xp would be gained by killing other players, but no loss to the loser, except possibly items/gold could be corpse looted. Guilds could plan night-time raids on other guild cities, you could have a rez pad in your city (crafted / destroyable) etc..Huge logistical problem to program and make fair though.
Darkfall was supposed to be like that, but it doesn't seem like it's ever going to materialize. Basicaly, remove all the artificial limitations and invisible walls to a true living, breathing world of danger.
I know, I know, it's a pipe dream.
Sorry, I am on off on a tangent again. On topic, I am looking forward to seeing how this PvP patch goes over. If it makes PvP worth doing, rewarding, and exciting...we'll see I guess in .....when was it pushed back to this time?
FIXED

why would there be? no reason to expect it in today patch...
When these changes will eventually hit live is up to the quality and balance, but we expect some great feedback from the test live server in the next few weeks, enabling us to get them out during early August.
I fixed that one for you.
One thing Funcom needs to do is stop making deadlines for themselves. I don't think they have lived up to one freaking deadline they made yet.
Fixed :P

Thank you for fixing the tense. I said "was" because I cancelled back in mid June so to me it was "was".
