Hello, before flaming me, please read all I have to say.
To start, the game took 24 hours to download, even after spending $6 on a Fileplanet subscription. I wasn't happy about that and it made me less forgiving about any other problems.
Secondly, I had to jump through hoops to get the game started with my CA Security suite.
Thirdly, after finally getting in-game, I was booted off twice and that's when I called it quits. I researched my problem and it could be that I have Vista. The work arounds I read weren't guaranteed and were more work than I was willing to put into a game that is supposed to be fun. Not to mention, when I logged in last night, there weren't anyone really on, but a couple of kids. Being a 27 yr old married parent, playing with kids isn't my cup of tea, so the game fealt even more barren.
My take on this is that you shouldn't have to do anything to your computer to run a game if that computer is normal. The only exception is for Vista users that need to do the Run as Administrator routine, which I'm fine with. Anything else is something that the game devs need to work out if they want me to play their game.
I have a library of MMORPGs and money to spend on subscriptions, so I am not so desperate for a new game to jump through hoops to play Requiem. I decided to forgoe playing this game until I can just log in and play without connection problems. Until then, I am staying with P2P games, which I don't have to jump through hoops for to play.

I have xp so i didnt experience any problems getting in the game, 32 minute download, got in first try.
My only problem with your post is the "little kids" thing, games are aimed at kids - even gore games, what kind of 20+ year old says "yay blood" none of them, that's for the 13 year olds... dont ever expect to enter a game and be greeted with casual adult conversation, it just wont happen...

IVE PLAYED WOW AND LIKED IT SO IM A FANBOI PLZ FLAME MY THREADS CUZ I MIGHT MENTION WOW
It's a problem we will have to disagree over then. When I started playing DAOC in 2002, it was rare to be greeted by kids upon logging in. As for gore, that isn't true either, since gorey movies are Rated R and cannot be viewed by kids without parental supervision. In fact, you need to be 17+ to play this game as well. So their target audience aren't kids like you claim, although that is who they are attracting.

i Don't see why you it took you song long to download..i dont even see how you have roblems with the game setup..i have vista and really tight security on my computer and it gave me no problems at all
When you right "before flaming me" that tends to say that you are aware that your next comments are unfounded, bias, wrong, ect..... Allow me to tell you why.
Because the game took you 24hrs to download is not the games fault and should not even be considered. Perhaps you should try to download before you go to sleep, also maybe get a better (faster) internet connection. Also you should consider that not every website has the same download speeds even if your paying 6 bucks to be a member. I personallly used gamers hell and had it in 30 mins.
Next, your CA security suite..... Do you realize how many anti virus programs are out there? Do you really think that every company out there is able to test with every single one of them? That is simply impossible. Most likely it was tested using the most popular ones out there. In addition you may also consider your own systems stability. Spy/Ad/Mal ware and virus's can wreak havoc on apps as well as internet speeds.
Vista, LOL do I even have to go there?
All joking aside I do slightly enjoy the OS but lets face it, with any new OS there are bugs. Lets leave it at that.
No that weve cleared all that garbage lets get to what matters, the game!
Personally Ive played this game up to level 15 on three seperate characters. Warrior, Templar, and a Rogue. (I have to get a feel for the game before picking a main). So Far Im having a good time with it. Its not WoW, LoTRo, or AoC but I think its definatly worth my time. The graphics are nice, the controls respond very well, no REAL bugs, ( a few minor but nothing to cancel over, like the warrior quest saying its east when its south) and the community is decent. But the community as with any MMO is what YOU make of it. There are always people on my server to chat, group, ect with. But I am still far from what I would consider a final verdict as there is much more game to be played.
Actually the comment "before flaming me" means I don't want any knee-jerk reactions and I'd like people to think before they post. I am quite aware that the download speed was a problem with my internet company and I lodged the complaint with my ISP. Unfortunately, I cannot get better than wireless DSL, because I live on a military installation where you can't install cable. Never-the-less, I was obviously fustrated by the end of the download, regardless whose fault it was, so I wasn't in the mood to fool around with things.
I don't appreciate you talking down to me, so I will leave the majority of your post alone. I have several classes in information techonology, know something about programming, and know even more about networks and information systems. I hate it how people always assume the worst about you on this website, which is why I am starting to shy away from posting here. Instead of talking down to me, you could have been mature and asked me if I tried this or that to discover if I already thought of what you are telling me to do.
No matter what, you cannot argue that this game can compete with most p2p games as far as compatability is concerned. My computer was made to handle next gen. games, and next gen games will be using DX10, which only Vista supports, so I'll leave that alone too. I also don't have any problems with my OS actually.
As for the community, it really doesn't matter at this point and I wouldn't judge a game by it's community in the first hour of playing a game. It was merely a comment. At any rate, my problem right now is actually quite common if you read the technical support forums. After playing for 5-10 minutes, I get DCed. Some people have found a work-around for this, but it doesn't work for everyone and honestly, I don't want to jump through those hoops to play a game when I can play others that are compatable as is.

yeah, i played in OB expecting a somewhat mature community...i was very wrong.
OP: you really made the right choice not following though and playing...a LOT of major problems made the way into the final release (such as mobs being able to hit you while your running so far ahead of them you can barely see them, only to have them follow you into town and kill you while your talking to an npc)...no global chat...clumsy PVP that requires the person getting ganked to initiate pvp on the guy ganking him...
also there was a bot and gold farmer spam problem after a few days on OB, which is a very bad sign. oh and the classes, at least in OB were really unbalanced.
Works fine on vista basic
1.5 hr download from gamers hell
no problems after a couple hours.
I'm not getting crashes or disconnects
It took me almost a week to get it to finally download, and I still couldn't play it. Never did find out why, I was in no mood by then to even play it.
Hey guys, little hint:
Try the damn mirrors. Gamershell got me the download in an hour without a hitch.
