My Star Wars Galaxies Rant
Ok I'll start this off from the begining and end it at the end :P I remember seeing this game sitting on the shelf of my local games shop, I picked it up had a quick look at the box and decided this game ticked all the boxes of a game I would like to play, So this was my first online game and the only one I've ever really enjoyed, I got home loaded up the game (after loading up the patches and what not) then I heard that iconic John Williams score (don't have your sound up full) and saw that starry background and yellow scrolling text, after reading alittle back story and the timeline for the game, I set about making my first Star Wars character. I have no clue how long It took me to pick a race, chin angle, height, hair style or name but I decided on a human character 6ft, dark hair Blah! Blah! Blah! ok enough of the boring stuff. So after a little load screen I'm ingame ready to start my Star Wars adventure,
Yeah hindsite is a bitch, I really didn't know anything about online games. I think I started talking to an npc at one point. Ok so I got past that and the what the hell does this button do or why is that yellow writing telling me If I want to do some missions, So I decide I would take my cdef pistol for some target practice, I'm walking about Mos Eisley and spot some red blips on my scanner thingy near a cantina (Can't remember what It's called, crashed ship thing, you know the place) I walk in to a group of 3 or 4 npc's blasting away 2 seconds later I'm being cloned back to life, those where fun times, to skip ahead I manage to find out what the yellow writing was and I join a low level hunting group for some missions, we grab a few missions and head out for some lair slaying. We get to our first mission with me and a few others running there ( Before I knew about vechiles, Fun times again, No really they where) I get there and some off the team are standing back waiting for everyone to arrive, after a short wait were all ready to take out the lair CHARGE!!! Hmmm yeah most of us decided It would be better to retreat after a few seconds, We all ran away to a safe distance then someone brought out a tent, that must have been the coolest thing I'd seen yet, As we all regrouped by the fire sitting on chair's and the ground we all told stories of massive dragons and tusken raiders that there friend of a friends uncle had told them off and about how they had joined towns and built houses also about how they had found this great weaponsmith who sold awesome weapons and just then I relised I hadn't even expolerd a little bit of tatooine nevermind other planet's and there Is so much more!!!
I remember seeing just one TKM character soloing the squill caves or the tusken fort too being a medic and learning just to heal wounds nevermind becoming a doctor and buffing at theed, thats what made this game great that you could do things on your own or with a group you could be the best fighter but still need to get a doctor to buff you or a medic to heal your wounds or a dancer/musicain you also had too find the best weaponsmith/armoursmith for your needs and actually talk to people. There where so many little things that maybe alot of people never noticed If they didn't just want to fight, When someone came into the hospitals I would always be glad to try to heal there wounds or top up ther health because thats what I was for. It helped me gain my exp and helped them go back out all raring to kill there next whatever,. Every character in the game had a sort off balance and skill's that where always needed at sometime or other from Scouts/Rangers for helping out Armoursmith/Tailor's too Image desingners for changing my hair style for me when I got bored of how I looked.
I'm not putting WOW down but It just didn't have what I was looking for, It's obvouisly a great game and lots of people love It and I've only played it for a short time myself but with SWG (Pre CU/NGE) It gave you the choice off how you felt at the moment I could be a weaponsmith for a few months then change back to a fighter if it wasn't for me but to be honest most people after awhile picked something that suited them, there where people that just stuck too weaponsmith/armoursmiths/taliors/medic/doctors/creature handlers etc... and became famous for It. They weren't just famous for being the best PvP/PvE/Wizard/Tkm/Swordsman Not attacking WOW again but It seemed all about the best way to take down or work in a group to kill something or to get the best loot but in SWG It was for a whole host of other things from being the cheapest new player weaponsmith to just concentrating on high level weapons for more seasoned players, I remeber being a lowly medic sitting in the med center healing High and Low level players because all the doc's where off buffing and belive me healing 200 wounds as a first time medic takes along time but I took that time to have some fun and listen to there stories and make friends.
This will maybe, I don't know get some complaints or something, It was just a game but was a game I liked playing and there was alot wrong with It too but even so I enjoyed It and no other after It.
This my first post so be gentle, this stuff has probably been posted a hundred times before but It's my 2 pence
This is just my rant, Ignore the man behind the curtain :}

Enjoyed the rant. We miss it as well.
Welcome to the Refuge.
I think most of us Vets who so loved the pre-CU SWG can understand your feelings. I loved the game and its uncertainty and its unsignposted ways to progress. I arrived in Mos Eisley and ran - ran! - all the way to Bestine because I had heard it had an Imperial fort. I was nearly killed by Tuskens on the way but another player, a little more experienced than me, fought them off for me and helped me on my way. Then I arrived in Bestine and started doing missions. I stayed in and around that town for nearly four months simply because there was so much to do. But, true, you had to have an ability to socialise as well as fight, to be patient as well as act quickly, to plan for the long term as well as act reflexively.
Thanks for the comments
lol I actually miss having to run too place's Hubertgrove, made it more exciting when you actually got there
To sum up SWG for me It was like real life, you have to work hard but you still had fun, all be it in a star wars way.
He he. I think one of the most thrilling experiences I ever had in the game was crawling - literally crawling to avoid aggroing all Dathomir's lethal mobs - to visit the Imperial Prison. It took me about four hours. At one point, it was night and suddenly there was a calp of thunder - the Devs did do the weather very well - and in the flash of lightning that followed, I saw silhouetted not too far away, a Nigfhtsister Witch already striding towards me. I fled.
Lmao
4 hours of absolute bordom for some players but that actually sounds like 4 hours well spent too me
I remember finding a little tusken underground base on one of my strolls around tat, I think It was north-east of jabbas palace. I'm really not sure If it had any point but I enjoyed the randomness of It.
Oooh, the Tusken bunker - dark, scary and horrible. And at the bottom of it... The Tusken King! North of Bewstine though, wasn't it?
I remember exploring the area one day and joining up with a few other noobs I met in the Bestine Cantina, none of us more than Master Marksman. It took us about an hour of planning and trying different attacks just to kill off the Tusken Snipers around the front/ Christ knows how Luke managed to kill them so quickly. Then we went in... What a running fight that was, dark rooms, flashes of gunfire, cries for help. We never made it to the bottom or even halfway down before we wiped that time but that was one of the best Sundays I ever spent online.
As kefkah said, welcome to the Refuge. Here, you are not alone.

Your probably right on the location, I haven't played for a few years my mind's not what It was
Now thats the kind off great stories I would hear while healing wounds in the med centre, I remember just making friends by sending my trusty Bantha steed to follow people around.
Thanks for the Welcome Kylrathin.
