I wanna see this new KOTOR mmo that Bioware introduced and if they do what they did with the KOTOR series and make it work into a MMO it might be the best MMO we've seen!

I'm currently playing AOC because i was beta tester for a while and i like this game, have many feature things that is cool. I've been playing WoW for too long time and now is time for some changes.

At a friends request I tried this game for about 2 weeks off and on. It was so broken, so laggy, so cludgy I cancelled.  Got a character to level 22-23 in that time. It really needs to get out of beta before people pay for it.

    He cancelled before me too.

We had high hopes for it, but they were dashed.

WAR hitting 2 million?  Don't make me laugh.

It won't even hit 1 million, i mean there aren't enough inbred fans towards DAOC or tabletop nonesense WAR, to do so., well there might be alot of tabletop WAR fans but thinking they all will flow into the mmo game is kinda delusional, why? Because if that was the case LOTR should be bolstered with 20+ million subs right now.

I have this itch that tells me, it won't even get as many initial subs as AoC had, AoC was hyped to the skies and beyond, many who just loved the movie and perhaps played some games rushed to try it out; "violence, tits, and the thought of meeting Arnie ingame, woops i mean Conan!" was kinda huge.

But then again time will tell but i hardly believe in a 1 million + subs on WAR's part, that game is just all about one funny guy praising it and telling everyone how awesome a game is, whileshowing little less or nill ingame stuff.

Many people will rush back to WoW when WotLK hits the stores, it's a no brainer, whether it will slam dunk WAR's release is the question, not whether WAR will put a dent on WoW's subs, because it won't. WAR is like the geekward, while WoW is the "cool guy/lady" in the office/school/club/store/college/uni/whatever.

WoW is multicultural funfest(how you make of it), WAR is nazi camp with parkinson syndrome.

P.S. yeah i played AoC, was fun until around lvl 50 then you got headshot by the countless bugs which were gamebreaking, while the trip up to 50, weren't that much of game breaking bugs or something that would kill your mood for the whole day. At first i just wanted to take a step back, as did my mates whom also bought AoC, but now it seems we won't even be coming back as each patch seems to create more bugs than it can fix.

The only reason why WoW is succesful is because of there marketing, its just another average game. That and money makes money.

  • Ironman2000Ironman2000 Member UncommonPosts: 310

Thats some of the reason why wow is successful, yes, but not all of them.  Its also very accessible, meaning almost anyone, from little 10 year old billie up to 90 year old granny , no matter if they're a real game player or not can jump right in and learn how to play fast and doesn't take them months to feel like they're getting someplace in the game.  Thats not easy to do.  Games like War and Conan are more "Niche" games, and will have a bigger learning curve and won't be as accessible.  So while they're going to have an inital surge in players that "try" the game, they won't have the subscription numbers that keep people returning.  I mean its hard enough to get a raid of 25 people together, its going to take an act of god to keep realms going at realms.  Plus like it was said before, when WoTLK comes out, anyone that was "trying" something else will come back for the new expansion.

What do people expect him t o say?? "Nope we didnt lose a single customer to AoC"??

i think WoW success has to do with its horrible graphics that crappy old computers can play. i played AoC and liked it but it was tought to run on a pretty new and decent computer. also i dont like the tiny gates to change zones which are easy to camp by greifers. personally i went back to AO the other funcom game. ^^

WoW are crafty buggers, they've timed their expansion release to be a similar time to WAR.

  • JadegogetterJadegogetter Member Posts: 40

Why care if WAR will only have 500-750k+ in the initial release?

Why all the fuss over subs? Do you actualy care or SEE them 10+ million players in WoW?

An MMO only needs enough actual PEOPLE on a server / shard to make it a good experience for your self! Enough to make a party for that dungeon, monster, RvR raid.

True enough WoW is a great game that offers a lot for many people. Its hard core in some areas and 'casual'  ( Though I hate lables ) in other areas; granting gear, progression of your character and that sence of achevement.

Basic consepts in MMO. If you had to pick a game, a game that has 10+ million subs or a game that has 1-2 million or even less. Would you pick the 10 million? Does the qualaty of the game not matter?

Aye, it does! so again, why care over subs!? If the game is good in your eyes then play it!

    (Awating WAR)

Personally, I think at least 5 million of WoW subs are goldselling aznbots.

And for the record, WoW didn't post any amazing numbers of subs until at least a year after release.

Another note, DAOC was not a "niche" game in it's hay day, it was one of the industry leaders of its generation.

The mad rush of mmo gamers didn't start until WoW with all of their big money tv and magazine adds.

before WoW more than 500k was unheard of, there weren't that many mmo gamers total back then.

    Good Tidings.

Let's be truthful with ourselves and say that WoW is a perfect

game; it can be tedious at times if not obnoxious but there is

really nothing wrong with it.  I have never left WoW once for

any other game because nothing looks worth the effort.

After playing WoW for near two years, everytime a new game

comes out comparing itself, I just look up their screens at

Google Images and there has not been one thing worth

    calling a MMORPG.

Far as I say, if it's not WoW, it probably blows.  But I do have

mixed feelings due to WotLK.  I'm a full paladin player; I don't

play any other class because of their own personal tedium

and obnoxiousness but thank you Blizzard for fucking up the

classes.  Ret Pallies are now more unto healers?  You douche

bags!!!  Oh well, I play healer.  :)

At the moment WoW is the best mmo out there. None don't even come close to it. WAR looks promising though. The rest out there are just nichegames mostly. Sure, they got players, but lack mass appeal, are often quite buggy and the grind in most of them is more mindnumbing than grinding for winterspring mounts in WoW Developers need to realise that the buggy shit they push on us mean people will leave their game and go back to their facourite mmo. Its hilarious to read their excuses why people leave their game though

Anyway, back on topic. Blizzard the only company I've seen done this. With all those company's around developing and running mmo's Blizzard really is the odd one out. With that I mean, they always been quite open about most the stuff with their games through the times. The other companies out there got a thing or two they can learn from Blizzard to be honest.

Oh, and just for the record, I don't play WoW anymore, but I give credit where credit is due, and Blizzard deserve alot with how they've been over the years.

    Get a clue, please.

Reason for the slow progress in the start, was because of the localisations. First 4-5 months later was it released in Europe, also most important thing is that until WoW came, 100k subs was A LOT. You seem to know nothing about mmorpgs before WoW, as back then 20k subs could be a tight community, today with WoW's large sub numbers it's nothing, as with is 200k seen as "very small", by many for strange reasons, also thanks to WoW.

Why does WoW have so many subs? Popularity, great game, highly polished(well actually maybe the only truely polished mmorpg around), lots of fun, and it's not only a Mmorpg anymore, it's a bloody social hub, not to mention it's also a boomage of success for the whole mmo genre in general. WoW is a super trend, well it passed the trend and like Counter strike, doesn't matter how many other shooters come out many will regard CS as "the fps game of all time", since it's very fun, even after so many years now, and very balanced and, yes guess what, polished.

And each time i hear "well 5+ million must be goldfarmers, since they are subs from the Asian region".

*CLAP CLAP Oiiiii !!!"  Hello dummy, those 5 million are playing on ASIAN servers only, who are they farming gold fore? For themselves? Oh i forgot you believe by magic of Oz, they magically fly it through some mystical portals and their gold end in EU and US right?  /sigh.

Face the facts. WoW is the mmo monster, which cannot be killed, unless it somehow tried to chase it's own tail, got to it, and ate itself up.

Obviously WoW bashers like to imagine stuff out of thin air and call it proof for their crusade of stupidity, which often only ends with, "well WoW is for kiddies", with all the other wow bashers clapping their hands in joy, as if they had a victory, yet the only victory they achieved, was that of stupidity.

TV ads first came when WoW already had, what.... 8 million subs?

Live in your own gloomy cave of black, white, and grey, if you want. It's obvious that your entire world would come crashing down upon you, if the company you so love, said themselves, that they regard Blizzard as one of the greatest companies in mmorpg's history, no wait they already know that, everyone knows that. They just don't dare to admit it. The only company who dares to use selfirony is Blizzard. And you know what? It makes them more trusted and loveable because of it, but then again you had to have made countless of games who were beyond great, and a good history, how many other companies have that? You could probably count them on one hand, even if you had a few fingers blown off.

heh all the fanbois are out.

its funny, even with releases since back then with AoC, LOTRO, EQ2 that 500k is still an exceptional target. Unless you incorporate Asia in that and then you have Lineage 2 something like quadrupling that number.

I think you misunderstood what actually happened here. What the Blizzard exec said is that some people left for Age of Conan, and nearly half of them have already returned to WoW. What this show is that the players are VERY excited about the direction blizzard is taking WoW.

This is sign of weakness in my opinion.

No company would ever admit to losing customers unless they had to because it was glaringly obvious.

Less than half the people who left went back after trying the competition, this cannot be good.

Could be the start of WoW's decline.
