I would actually really LOVE all this setting if I personnally know each and every player.
That way, even if 1 side is overwhelming, the others side are not unecessarily crushed. The natural player instinct is to fight for complete supremacy. Will players slaughter strangers, yes. Will they slaughter RL friends, no, they will ignore them or give them rules to respects that will allow them to developp but certainly spread the seed for future confrontation(exemple, instead of taking their ressources which they are already lacking, you hold event and they HAVE to attend once per very long time and applaud to your poetry so called skills...a ranger that have to listen to poetry like: If you are born without horns, you are born to be scorned...even only once in his life, will always hold grudge for the future, the seed is done).
See, strangers focus on winning only. Friends try to focus on making fun. If you see someone that is no match for you, fun say to ignore them or rarely use arrogance like the French always does. Winning is crushing before their grow strong, which is fun preventing.
Anyway, many neat ideas, but all those ideas are nices with RL friends only. No way I play that with anyone I dont personnally know on the server! *grin* Those ideas assume all players will have in mind the fun factor of the others, but most dont care for others. If I see all hunting mobs for level 1-20 go extinct on a server full of strangers and my clan dont need those mobs for next 3 months, I dont care. If I am with RL friends, let say I am evil, I will plant evil tiny buggers back, if I am good, go nature go, I am here to help!
Also, pure open PvP dont take into account, what can casuals players earn? I mean, if I play 80h a week and my friends play 15, how can this be made fun without me crushing them all the time if we are enemies? 80 vs 15 mean they are offline most of the time, and I pretty much doubt NPCs can resist much assaults! I humbly think someone need a timer to reorganised after been repulsed, that way a tactic of killing some, fleeing, coming back killing some and so on while they are offline have limited success. Even if it mean some zones have pure raw multiplier on toon stats in both side to get challenge, do it. I dont mind been at half my dps while they have twice their dps if we are fighting close to their home, this may be the only way to have a fair battleline between hardcores and casuals, not to mention that walking close to my home must become such an awfull stress to them under such rules!
The last retreat fort should not be free of attack, it should have an insane multiplier that make it completely impossible to even handle a NPC, even less a player, and the farther you go from that point, the more the multiplier reduce.
So a side win the middle and nobody can compete for it at even odds? Okay, let bring the fight to a multiplier zone and see if there is more challenge there. Not to mention that the base number of NPCs on both sides change as well in favor of the folks closer to home point. In middle zone there might have been an even 10 NPCs for both side, but here is might be 9 vs 11, so the players have to make the difference(or hire more) while handling the handicap multiplier.

Yeah, we had that in mind as well about RL friends. We are also telling people who want to play and have more fun to get ventrilio (a team cha program) of which there will be servers so people can talk to eachother without having to type. This brings everyone closer, its something about the voice of people.
For the breeding problem, its not much of a problem. If the players kill all the low level mobs then its their fault when theres nothing to kill. The game is held up by players. We dont want to have to deal with all of that. But if it comes down to it, we can always have a ship come in from a core planet that that type of monster has taken over and massivley bred under. Maybe. If were in a good mood. :P
About the PVP, you sure you read all the features? Theres a section in there explaining how even a guy with a +0 rapier can win against a guy with a +10 uber bastard sword. Battles can go on for hours if the players are skilled enough. And a lvl 10 player actually might have a chance against a lvl 50 player in SAB.
And middle can not be taken over. Every kingdom has a "Secret Base" Used for falling back in, only people who still wear the medallion of allegiance towards that kingdom may enter the base. This keeps it so RACES cant be extinct. Maybe one day we will reveal a bases hideout if we see no more point in that race surviving. After all, this game is all about the war between the three races, and if the race is down and out, well theres nothing left to do about it. You will still be able to use the race, but not under a kingdom name anymore. They will all be "Outcasts".
And on another point within kingdoms the race of that kingdom who still have the medallion get a bonus for being inside their kingdom grounds. This includes the hunting grounds in a radius around the kingdom. This will make it extremely hard to take of kingdoms, and if you can do it. Then we will all applaud you.

I don't know why people have to tear other people down for even presenting ideas. At least these folks are TRYING to do something. It's a sad, sad world where everyone sits patiently waiting to be spoonfed whatever bitter, pretty pill that big companies want to feed us without getting out there and stretching their own wings. Even if it does turn out to be "junk" in some people's opinions, at least they did something themselves, learned from the process, and maybe tested some ideas to go into the next iteration.
Girls dig creative guys. Trust me on that.

The ship will be a goal, something to work towards. There are 3 kingdoms located on the remains of the planet which you start off on. This of course doesn't mean you can't explore anything without buying a ship. We have cruise ships controlled by the Kingdom Authority which carries up to 150 passengers across the sky to different pieces of land. Just merely buy a ticket, and there you have it.
As for alpha testing, we will definitley let you know as soon as possible once it's ready .
Aye, were also going to implement cruise ships for guilds. Easy way to make money for new guilds if they have a big ship. That way they can go below the cost of the cruise ships, and send you areound themselves.
Oh and on a note about the ships. Im doing these ships guided by REAL blueprints. So these ships will hopefully feel as real as they look.

Sorry I didn't reply to this before but I seemed to have missed it the other times.
There is a difference between complaining and talking shit. When Sky and Beyond comes out and if it sucks then he can complain all he wants. Say crap like he just did, while these guys are trying to put out a good game, is some major BS. Give these guys a chance first. I hope them luck.

Some people on this forum are looking for a good free mmorpg. We're trying to make that happen. If i can do that, then i'm happy. I'm not trying to prove any points, it's just that from a gamers perspective i see alot of people discouraged from the MMO genre because of monthly fee's, hopefully this will get them involved.
Also, the reason why we have a small team at the moment is because we are spending most of our time getting the official site up so we can link people to that to see if they'd be interested in joining.
