      Good job. thanks my friend.

    my road is long

  • csyrencsyren Member Posts: 3

Ok so here goes my first post.  You seem like a man who knows online games.  Heres my story i hope you can help.  27 female from uk.  Popped my cherry with SWG pre cu.  I loved the game then and the people i played with.  I stuck with it through the CU and then the nge and played for about a year after that and it all got a bit ruined because i could never find the magic it once had.  All my friends left and i was left with great game knoledge loads of gear 3 accounts and noone to share it with.  I then went to wow again met a few nice people but i didnt find wow very chalenging it was just about leveling up and gettig good gear so you could raid as i am in the uk and my freinds are state side it was difficult to level then accomplish what wow seems to be designd for in server quiet times.  So befor i bore you with my tales of boo hoo ive got no freinds, i will get to the point i want to find a game that ticks these boxes.

    1.  Interesting story / quests not just kill 10 go back kill 10 go back run round for 3 hours getting lost and kill 10 more go back.

    2.  Good group activitys for when i can play with my friends but also enoughf to keep me interested when im all alone jimmy no mates.

    3. An oppertuninty to do more than just fight.

    4. Avatars i like being a girl not  a space ship.  If it had houses / place to put things would be great but i know that is a bit of an ask.

    5. Not too cartoony.

Is there a game out there that can give me what i need ?  Lol high maintenance huh ?

I look forward to your responces thanks again ./blowkisses

I agree with all the previous people speaking on behalf of FFXI taking much much longer than 35 days played to get to max level

Also it is IMPOSSIBLE to solo on FFXI in any way shape or form unless you are a beast master or a black mage and you like dying a lot.

The game is MADE for grouping, and with the level breaker quests and the time it takes to seek to find a party.

there is NO WAY to estimate how long it takes to get to max level (75)

it is ENTIRELY based off if you can find a party and that party doesn't suck.

I have over 200 days played on that game and only two 75 jobs, now I wasn't exactly "hardcore" leveling all the jobs up to 75 but I know of no one who has a character at 75 in less than several months of work.

I've played UO, EQ, DAoC, Lineage, Shadow Bane, SWG, and WoW just to name a few game

the hardest of all of these to get to max level?

    FFXI

    No contest

Two pieces of info. that might be useful to someone looking for a MMO is maximum level and world size. The 'grind' probably is just as useful but it would be nice to know exact numbers on max lvl. I would want to know how big the world is just to know how much you can explore. Maybe that's not important to most people. Also, what does "sandbox" mean? :)

"Sandbox" is an acronym to virtual world simulator. When referred to MMOs, people use the word to describe games which offer almost unlimited variety of choices on many levels, starting from customisation of your avatar, rich player driven economy , emphasis on socialisation etc. Usually a sanbox game would be the opposite to quest driven games like WoW or Lotro. Some would add to the sandbox definition that it should be skill based game, unlike level/class restricted RPGs.

Runescape no longer has full loot PvP.

    Yeah I played it...what?

Nothing wrong to play Runescape but have reached highest level and now I'm bored of playing that game, try something new like Rohan or Neo Steam ^^

    that list=

i hope you can keep it updated with the new releases.  AoC fits in to the solo section, the PvE section, not so sure about endgame but it has grouped instances and raids (i think) and if you go on a pvp server its 100% FFA with no factions (in some cases thats a tad unfortunate)

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I am new here so maybe have not noticed all the threads, but I think too it might be interesting to see which games have guilds that spread across several different games.  EG I know someone who has a guild that he uses in loads of online and even some off line games (D &D for example).  So that if someone was going to play several different games but wanted some continuity in friendships across the games they could look for a guild that existed in more than one game.

    there is always hope

    Thanks Netzuko - great idea.

I registered to get on this thread exactly because I need a new MMO. However, I have gone through your summary and the posts and still need help - any advice from all gratefully received.

    A bit of  background needed...

I have been playing Runescape (my only MMO experience) for about 18 months but it has gone too politically correct/suitable for sub-teens (restrictions on trading, limitations on PvP) plus too much repetitive grind at my level (60s in major skills) and so need a new game.

Search area:  medieval style swords and sorcery/fantasy, not anime style graphics.

    Based on the 7 categories:

Grind: I don't mind a long haul to get up levels (I usually only play once or twice a week for 4-8 hours) but hate the kill 250 town guards or catch 1000 identical fish approach; prefer to gain experience in PvE.

PvP: shouldn't be the main point of the game but options should be there otherwise we might as well play Hello Kitty.

PvE: main thing for me = like quests, exploring, big world etc.

Crafting: which i guess includes all non-combat stuff; it should be there but not as the main thread.

Performance/Graphics: of course these should be good but not critical (if they were i wouldn't have stuck with Runescape for so long)

Difficulty: two sides to this, difficult to play because of complex game which takes time to learn is good; difficult to play because high dexterity with keyboard/mouse/joystick is bad.

Payment: this is the big thing that you missed - I guess you live in NAmerica or Europe. In Asia (I live in Hong Kong) a number of games won't even let us subscribe (e.g. WoW).

Based on your review and comments and a quick look at sites EQ2 looks like my best option but SoE has not got many friends... Wurm looks interesting but is it entirely a sandbox game - any quests?

Advice gratefully received (and feedback posted if any interest).

If you want a game that will take you a year to finish try FFXI

  • V_Repoman_VV_Repoman_V Member Posts: 22

Runescape has *years* of hardcore grind, not just 100 days.

Runescape PvP is entirely minigame based, and only offers 1 unsafe "kill & loot" style minigame.

You cant attack players outside of minigames.

    Just wanted to clarify.

Ive been playing that game for about 3 years on various characters.

EDIT: i do not recommend playing it. Its way too much grind, and past certain stat levels, there arent many high-lvl rewards or incentives to keep grinding. the community in general (not everyone) is immature also.

    Hi,

I think DAoC deservers a better graphics score then 'Below Average'. It has been updated many times and I do believe it does better when you set all your settings open.

Also, there are some freeshards running for this game that are worth mentioning(yes, Mythic approved freeshards). I'm currently playing one myself (Uthgard) and I'm enjoying DAoC more then ever since ToA came out.

Maybe you can add this to the DAoC payment-options?

It would be a great opportunity for doubting players to have a taste of the game... There is a 14-day free trial but I have the feeling it can't really tell you what DAoC is about in such a short time.

    Cheers

Runescape definately has crafting, and should also probably come under this too:

"I want a game with crafting that matters, not some sidestep in the game that's ignored."

Also, it has an optional subscription (plus the graphics have been updated - you might want to quickly check out the new ones to see where you feel they belong).

You cannot be attacked anywhere on RuneScape unless you play Classic (and never have been able to on RS2)
