How come this Turbine/Atari venture hasn't seen any coverage on mmorpg.com? Unless I am missing something, this is going to be a MMO game and it looks pretty good from the videos/screens at IGN.

The dead know only one thing: it is better to be alive.
Actually this site is how I found out about D&D online.
They posted a link to an interview with a developer. It is a fantastic new take on MMO games and with the HUGE fanbase that D&D tabletop games has I can see this game being a great success.

Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
Turbine became a dissapointment after they fired all the dev's from AC1, made AC2. Then the concepts of MEO. Just really pathetic, and dissapointing.
D&DO is too early in development to tell if it'll be a good game or not. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
Sadly enough, the D&D world, and Tolkien books were both things that I really liked. Which in the end, if not done just right, ends up making me hate it all the more.

Where do you get your information? I've never heard of Turbine "firing" the original AC1 team. Then again I'm not on the inside, but I don't recall ever hearing about it in my years of following AC1. Some still work there and are working on MEO and/or D&D. The rest I presume moved onto other careers or other games.
And once again I must take a moment to defend AC2. I wouldn't blame AC2's poor launch 100% on Turbine, more like Microsoft rushing the release. AC2 at this point is a fine game. It's a shame it still suffers from the bad release and doubtfully will ever recover. However, at least AC2 served a purpose. As I understand it AC2 or I guess more like the AC2 engine, got Turbine the deals for MEO and D&D.
I have a lot of faith in MEO and D&D. I think Turbine learned pretty well from AC2 not to rush a game out. Had AC2 been released in the form it is today, I guarantee you and others would have almost nothing to complain about. So, the AC2 team are fine developers, capable of making a good game given adequate time that any game should have to be made and tested. Which to me, AC2 clearly didn't have.
I completely agree with jaguar.
I have faith that MEO and D&D will be great games.

Where do i get my information? Well I'm surprised you haven't heard it since you follow Turbine.
I can't give you links or anything. But I did know somone that worked on AC1 and AC2 as a artist, and he ended up gettin his arse fired. Along with many others over the time were, fired, fired, & fired.
Now if you want physical evidence, just compare AC1vAC2. It looks like you had dysfunctional EQ dev wannabe's make that game.
Sure the game may of balanced, the game may of added new content. but fact of the matter is, the groundbase for the game. Was horrid.
Almost every single piece of AC1 that made it unique. Was completely stripped!
Lets see, starters, for one, AC2 I believed added in a flexible class system. There weren't axe specialized with creature enchantment, item enchantment.
It all changed. The complete skill system changed.(This is how I remember all this anyhow)
Combat, devolved. No longer was there head, mid, foot. Quick and light damage, slow and heavy damage. Strategic PvP battles.
The emphasis of the structure was horrendous, it was nothing like AC1. They should of just called it the bastard child of EQ & DAoC with lugians.
They had a good system with AC1. But instead of sticking with it, expanding upon it, diversifying it. They screw everything up.
AC1 was my favorite game, I played on darktide, some of the best times in a computer game i've ever had playing on that server with a unique game such as it. I fanatically waited for AC2. When it arrived, it was what it was. And thus far I haven't trusted Turbine since. Even with MEO they're bastardizing the story into a campfest. Its really a sad, sad, thing. (Reason I mainly say this is, I loved the books by Tolkien, and I followed the game when Sierra was suppose to make it.)

Being a huge MMORPG fan and a long-time roleplayer I would really really like to see this "work" I've never seen any of Turbine's work, having avoided Asheron's call in general (Not for any particular reason really, just ended up that way.)
To the original poster - how can you tell an MMO game is good by the screens & videos? In fact you said it looks good & that's the point - it looks.....
I'm fed up of all the sheep mmo gamers who big up anything with nice graphics cause "it looks great", Warhammer Onilne looked great, hell, Dragon Empires looked GREAT but neither will ever be released because neither ever worked. Computer game developers should be just that & not try to leap into MMO's where they have no expertise, MMO games most resemble early MUD games & the next game developed using MUD like game balance and experience will wipe the floor with all the "looks lovely" - but umm what about gameplay, storyline, balance, crafting, combat, trading etc etc.
The point is reading through the forums none of you are really happy with what's on offer, yet as soon as the next corporation releases some shiny new screenshots, that yes, "look f**kin Gr8" you'll cream your pants & shout to everyone how cool this game is. The developer thinks they have the next big thing & plough even more millions into lovely graphics and what gets released? - a pile 'o' lovely looking shite & you're all bitching again.
There are mmo game developers out there fighting against this trying to offer you the game experience you deserve for all the time you're living in their world. Look beyond the glossy, remember you don't judge a book by it's cover, look deeper and you might find several games that do need your support and really will offer something different that you all keep on asking for.....

wow take a deep breath and relax man, I just think the game has some potential thats all
First off, although I think the game has been ruined I am a huge fan of AC1 especially the pvp server. I like AC because of the flexibility of the class system and huge game world...plus the visible mathematics of the combat system.
Ever since leaving AC I have looked around for another mmo that would interest me but so far none have. Mostly because I can't find a pvp game that has the same comination of twitchy/rpg combat and fun solo pvp like ac1.
Having played D&D for a while when I was younger, I can think of no better group to release a game in that world than Turbine. If it was Verant (sony) or any of the other devs teams that have made the cookie cutter rpgs out today I probably wouldn't give it a second look.
I've seen the game upclose...
I've talked to two of the developers...
I've see it in action...
I've heard what was a definate in game...
all I can say is....
4th Quarter 2k5 is too long of a wait...I want to play it now

Just wonderin, any of u guys play the roleplaying D&D with the game master.. im not talkin a videogame, just roleplaying.. cuz if they can use the old books to create the basis for the game, that'd own.. i still got all my old D&D gear.
Well the number one reason D&D Online is not getting so much hype as of yet would probably be because it has a tentative Q1 2006 release date. Gamers have a short attention span as it is, do you honestly believe that super hyping the game now will have any effect come late 2005-early 2006 when it really matters?
I myself will be following this game all the way through. I hope it turns into everything it can be.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
About the AC1 vs AC2 difference... I am not DEAD sure on this, but my understanding is that the primary difference was:
AC1: designed by Turbine, developed by Turbine, hosted by Micro$oft on their servers.
AC2: designed by Microsoft, developed by Turbine, hosted by M$ on their servers.
The change, or so I have heard, was mostly that MS had their hands in the pie more for AC2, and not so much the fault of the Turbine dev teams.
