SEGA AND WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE THE MATRIX ONLINE SHIP DATE AND PRE-ORDER PROGRAM

(September 16) -- SEGA of America, Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that the release date of The Matrix Online, the massively multi-player online game, will be January 18, 2005. Originally slated for a November ship date, the January release will allow the co-publishers to implement plans to launch the game simultaneously in Europe.

As pre-order for The Matrix Online begins next week, the program will offer participants access to an exclusive, closed beta beginning on November 18, 2004; access to the final version of the game three days before it is available to the public; and an advanced-level "Hyper Jump" ability with a special effect. This will be an opportunity for members of the Matrix community to establish allegiances, join guilds and plan strategies for the full game. During the pre-order beta, players will experience The Matrix Online's full mechanics and abilities, however the game's storyline will commence with the launch in January.

I do have some interest in the game.

Not to sound silly but, bascilly means we'd have to pay to beta test? :-p

I'm not much for that, but who knows *shrug* :)

It looks to me as if you're paying for an open beta - but that is just my opinion.  Doesnt mean you have to pay either, I'm sure you'll still be able to get in via normal means - though Im sure those who paid will have first priority over anything else.  But the three day headstart and the advanced hyperjump have me strung up enough about it :)

I just hope SOE get kicked out of the scene early on.

Don't want them messing up the game as they did with SWG.

What little bit of interest I had for Matrix Online fell by the waistside after playing it at the E3. The game reminded me a little of CoH. It was mostly a lot of fighting, but the game's graphics weren't anywhere near as good as CoH and the animation was much too choppy for me. This was on a server that probably had less then 1000 people on it. I'm sure the game will still have a decent following, but I'm going to still go  WoW, EQ2, FFXI, CoH and Guild Wars for my MMORPG fix. I don't see myself playing anything else for at least the next 3-4 years. It will have to be revolutionary, before I quit the other games.

Umm beta begins in November and the game is being released two months after that? That seems like quite a rush to me. Hope they really have a good game and don't pull an AC2; release the game in shambles and fix it months later to what it should have been at the release and hope not to many people quit before that.

Pre-order cancelled right before this anouncement (for once I did something right! lol) was made, and EQ II waiting...  image

SOE's 2nd and LAST attempt to keep me as a subscriber. The ONLY reason, is I hope they do differently/better than SWG, since they are the whole enchilada this time. (crossing fingers... BIGTIME)  image

I'm going to have to correct you on that one. SOE told everyone that SWG needed 6 more months worth of developement before it came out. Now Lucas Arts came in and said no its gold, we will be releasing this in 2 weeks. So at this point if you blame anyone for SWG please blame the problem....Lucas Arts

    Thanks.

    Well you are wrong.

I am not talking about the release of SWG, i am talking about the poor customer service, and the later developmnent changes to the game, suchas jedi.

Not trying to be offensive, especially to someone of your high posting stature but you've to understand that Lucas Arts is the one in the controlling seat here. SOE is more or less a puppet. Granted they do get partial credit because they allow these thing to happen but they more or less are not in control. Lucas Arts pays SOE for developement and hardware for the game and SOE gets kickback from Monthly fee and such so they don't really care. So here's the way it works. Lucas Arts tells SOE what to do and they do it so its not SOE who's to blame.

If I offers you partial kickback on a multi-million dollar game to take my idea and create it and provide hardware should we blame you when our idea sux? in your words yes....in mine no. *shrugs* just giving you information so you can look in the right direction...doesn't mean you have to ;)
