XP or Vista

I know, I know. This has been discussed before but the last disscussion was back in May so maybe opinions have changed.

I have access to XP Pro, XP Pro x64 Edition, and Vista Ultimate. Right now I'm using xp pro cause x64 edition is not longer being updated. Right now my rig has the best AGP 8x card available, 4gb ram, and a AMD +3400 socket 754 cpu... I have played all my mmo's on my current rig the most visual would have to be LoTR:O, and I think I ran on a medium custom setting and didn't get any graphical lag. I didn't like the game enough to even care. I'm planning on play WAR when it comes out, and I already ran some of the test services that test to see if you can run games, and of course their min requirements are gimp. But I was planning on making a new rig to gaurantee that I run WAR on the highest settings and 45+ FPS, and GW2 whenever it comes out.

I was thinking about making a new rig, I know what I want :

AMD X2 5000-5400 cpu

ATI Radeon 4870 or Nvidia 9800

4 GB ram (min)

...the rest doesn't matter

Now, Im tore between if now is the right time to convert to vista or not? The biggest thing is DX10, but everyone says how vista sucks up resources, how can games run better if the resources are being sucked up in the backgroung by the OS?

I didn't want to start a poll, but hopefully I can get some feed back from vista and xp gamers with good rigs.

Waiting for:
Blizzards Next MMO in 2014, lol

I would say go with Vista, because of DirectX 10. You can only get up to 9 on XP.

Well I don't know if  WAR will use DX10 but with XP pro64 I couldn't find a driver that let my 8500gt work with it. Looked around and their seems to be a problem with the 8 series and xp 64. I had to downgrade to 7200 which sent me from 60fps to 20-30.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

I'd also say to go with Vista, even with all the bashing that's gone on.

I just installed the service pack and I couldn't love my OS anymore right now.

i installed sp3 for xp and have already deleted xp ultimate 64 from my other partition.  I had vista on it for a whopping 2 months...just hated its performance

Vista DX10 is definitely the future of gaming but right now there is just too many issues with it. Some people have success, many others do not. if you can get Vista DX10 to work then I say go for for Vista.

Well Vista runs really well with 4 gigs or more.... I would only advise xp 32 bit  if your not goign to play any games that have DX10.  Microsoft  stopped updates for the 64 bit  xp awhile ago i heard. But Im running xp with 4 gigs but it only shows 3.25 and thats plenty enough for any game.
