Ryzom is live in Europe, and to mark the occasion, Nevrax has reworked the official website. The site is geared more for a game that is in service (as opposed to one that is in development), including links for ordering the game and checking server status. Click on this link to visit the new, improved website for The Saga of Ryzom.
----- There are 10 types of people in this world...those who understand binary, and those who don't.
They have added a guest area on the forums, where you can ask a question as a non-subscriber to the game, but the main forums are still totally off limits to those who don't subscribe. Not just posting, but guests can't read those forums either.
This is usually a very bad sign for a game, game companies usually only clamp down access when they have things to hide.
Ryzom is very incomplete and will need a lot of work to get to the point it should have been at launch. The forums would be where I would normally follow the progress of such a game, in the hopes that some months down the road, it would have morphed into a more playable, balanced and complete game.
Fiontar you are right. I checked and they did do this. Strange. I played in beta so my account is active I guess. I wouldn't be so quick to damn them yet. I played the game in beta and will be playing it when I get it in retail. I don't like the fact that they haven't provided access to the forums yet, but I don't view the game as having been released yet really.
The main problem with this situation isn't that the game is incomplete. The main problem is that NO ONE has the game yet in North America. The servers are up but the earliest anyone is going to be able to see this game is the 23rd of September. This is driving us (fanboys I guess) crazy I can assure you.
If you want to find out how the game is doing, from a public perspective, you have to wait till the end of the week anyways.
Saying "the game is very incomplete" is kind of vague. I'll be a little more specific:
Complete and in game and end of beta:
Skills, creatures, towns, land, graphics, a basic (read limited) chat system, guild interface, apartments, item storage. Guild quests are apparently in but I don't know about that as I didn't have a chance to try it out. The game was extraordinarily stable for me at the end of beta but I don't know how that is going to translate at launch. The action system is awesome. There is beautiful animation of just about everything in game, clouds, yubos, crabs etc. Again NO ONE has the game yet except for the Brits (I understand French a bit but not German) and they're too busy playing it to comment that much. Bastards.
Incomplete:
1. There are still annoying bugs in the game. e.g. getting stuck in a room with no way out besides getting help from a GM. There are invisible walls around islands in Tryker land that are completely annoying and don't really make any sense.
1a) Note that Tryker land will probably end up being the Hibernia of this game. It's beautiful but a little f'd up, especially where island walls and harvesting are concerned.
2. Not all descriptions are on items, some of the descriptions on items are vague, some of the descriptions on items are still in French.
3. Magic system, especially with regards to crowd control, needs a little bit of a review. It's more geared towards group play, but I imagine it's completely useless if you're fighting more than two or three mobs at once. Crowd control is *crowd* control, not "cast a spell and stand there staring at monster". Devs say it's working as intended (but it's not really working dammit).
3a) Range weapons also need a review as they seem to be too expensive to use.
4. There isn't really enough info for people starting the game. I have the same complaint with regards to Anarchy Online. There's enough to get you started but it's not really enough, and it doesn't keep you from making reroll errors. There should be a line somewhere in the manual that states, "DON'T LEAVE NEWB LAND unless you have at least Level 30 in either magic or fight skills"
5. There are useless skills in the game. For instance the aim at (head/body/legs/arms etc.) skills are comparatively useless (they're based off of getting a crit on a mob) when you can get a free swing without using stamina (you need to play with the Action system here) with attack after parry (at level 45 fight, I was parrying mobs so much they barely hit me).
6. The mission system is woefully poor for people starting out. The guild missions are supposed to be in but I haven't seen those. Devs have said they will be releasing missions (as opposed to what we have now, which are really what they consider tasks).
Anyways, these are the main bugs I can think of. I never really had a problem with loading/playing ryzom and found it very stable. Other people are apparently having problems with it though.
Honestly at the moment I'd put this launch at a bit better standing then Daoc (Hibernia) was at launch. That game was inherently stable and very playable, but incomplete with regards to content and mobs dropping items (e.g. mobs in the frontiers dropped only gold (weren't itemized) for a long time after launch, dungeons were incomplete, there wasn't much quests). Ryzom is stable, beautiful, very playable, has a lot of content (except for quests), and mobs are itemized. In addition, with Ryzom, you don't have gimped classes (read Mentalists/rogues).
I guess the truth of the matter is, even if you could get into the forums, there really isn't much there to speak about because most people who have the game are too busy playing the game.
This thing is horrible. I played the beta and even though it was free i got rid of it after about three hours. The combat has NO depth, and the other classes, well lets just say you get more entertainment out of a history class. The char creation has some depth but in the end all players from the same race look the same. if this was free i might consider it but if your paying money for it?...haha ya right..

What skillful use of cut and paste jen. Can't you even come up with something new when posting? Sooo stupid... I cant see anyone believing ignorant people like you. Sounds like you are pretty poor if you will play it if it was free, but won't if you have to pay. Go mow a lawn... ONE LAWN, and you can afford it.
Well, if you are actually a real monkey, then I apologize as that's very good for a monkey. Good monkey, want a banana?
I agree with some points, Zeke. Specifically, I totally agree withthe fact that a lot of them are probably busy with the game. I just wanna hear some quick reviews about how it's going before I go and order the game. I pretty much still want to order the game, I'm just a little scared because of all the flamers on the boards.
