With the curent state of the game do you believe that will have any success in future?
Personaly I dont believe that AOC will close (at least not in the next 4 years i estimate) but with its numbers of players decreasing will become a low population game with servers to be merged and subscriptions not to be above 100k
Already ppl have left the game but the real crisis will start when WOTLK, Miness of Moria,WAR and AION came out.

I have left but have every intention to return after the content patches roll in. Plan to continue to be in closed WAR beta though
What happens to a MMORPG when it gets to 100k subscribers is that it loses its Live Team. The live team is what is responsible for adding the semi-monthly free content. If you look at games like WOW and LOTRO, you can check the huge amount of content they put out in free patches.. that is the live team.
If you look at games like EQ, UO and pretty much every other MMORPG besides WOW and LotRO, you will notice the only time their games get updated is when they sell an expansion. AoC is going to fall into that group very quickly. I'm sure the bean-counters at funcom are already cutting significant numbers of staff members. Customer service, QA and then finally developers.
The real problem with AoC is that it's not even stable enough to be on life support like UO, Anarchy Online and SWG.. There are so many bugs and half-done content that AOC will probably never be able to afford the devs to fix the game. Look at the incredibly slow rate of bug fixes going on.. Item Stats still don't work, female swing speed is still messed up (well, let's just say all melee attack speed is borked), city seiges don't work, crafting is a mess, endgame dungeons are bugged beyond belief and all boss mobs are exactly the same... etc etc... all of those things need to be fixed before the game can even get to the point of being a 'good game on life support'.
One of the big reasons that the patches have been so terrible the past two months is probably because most of the QA team has probably already been let go.
My opinion is this. The game will basically be at it's current state forever. They may try and push out a paid expansion in 9 months or so, and cash in on the 100k subscribers still playing the game. But the fact that they are working on an expansion now means they don't have hardly anyone working on fixing the game. the PvP update has been the 'next big update' forever.. and it's going on two months overdue.. Someone joked about the major feature of the first expansion being PvP... I honestly think it's pretty close to the truth.
In any event.. while AoC is stagnating.. both LotRO and WOW will be cruising forward with features and content constantly being added for free.
Im not sure where you got your impression of either AoC or LOTRO from, but LOTRO is doing shit poorly when it comes to number of subscribers, actually all Turbine games have been very poot in that so far, but I guess at least they keep trying to get it right, they just lack the skills and visions.
AoC is declining, but thats not unusual for a copy-cat game like that. People wanted more and got hurt when AoC was just another copy of WoW. Graphics wasnt enough.
Bug wise... well so far none of the MMO's out there has been bugfree and I seriously doubt that anyone ever will be. AoC, despite all the rumours, are a fairly bug-free product in comparison with other MMO's out there. Well, I guess bug-free isnt exactly the right word, but you know what I mean...
For WoW players, AoC is a very good new alternative, as Blizzard put it of all the players that left WoW for AoC, only 40% of them returned. hmm...
Those games still need to come out, they not out yet, what crysis are you talking about, what is it with these new people who TRY to play games, more games IS GOOD it's not a crysis, IT's GOOD, it means more choices and more chances people will will get finding THE game they will enjoy.
Seriously people take a step back and try to remember these games are made to have fun with, does a game not provide fun you expect, walk away, silence the game, don't speak about it, that is the only real solution and fact that MIGHT change the way these games are made.
But people keep spitting stuff on the web, which only tells developers "oh so if we change this we might have a change on getting people who already left back" this scenario happens but most who left....LEFT and many don't return even thought they keep complaining about a game they don't even play anymore.
Well i recently used my 60 day time card for AOC, i have maybe about 40 days left of game time, but due to the constant crashing i have decided to call it a day. This game and it's bugs have caused me 3 OS corruptions.
I will probably go back to playing some FPS games until Aion comes out. Im really looking forward to that game. I may try out WAR, when they allow me to use my codes.
Many games alive with content updates with less than 40K subs. Hell LotRO updates in a big way and only has 150K. Lets keep in mind that once upon a time 250K was retardly successful. Really only WoW has busted open that number.
i ws only gonna play aoc till wotlk came out as only last for 20 odd days . i intend to go back to aoc if get sorted out unless war and wotlk turn out great

I dont think you understand what i wrote. Speaking of crysis i m refering to AOC POPULATION. When WOTLK AND WAR launch is sure that many many ppl will leave AOC(if they havent already leave...)
And for the record i m one of them that will continiou play aoc and beyond 2009. i like aoc. the new combat system and its universe. i support AOC because i like the game.
this doesnt mean that i have to ignore the fact that the game has MANY bugs. And is also NOT YET complete. The above has as a result large amount of ppl to have leave the game, atleast until Funcom completed and fixed.
The point now is funcom to fix it before WAR come out because if WAR working correctly then AOC population will go below 100k . and this is smg that affect players that want to play aoc (like me )but they will have difficulties making groups, raids and pvp games.

I think there's very little crossover between people playing AoC and those who want to play the WoW expansion.
Are you also the one who called AoC a 'WoW clone'? AoC is nothing like WoW. It's more of a hybrid between DAOC and Guild Wars, with hopefully, eventually a little Shadowbane thrown in for good measure.
That being said, AoC is such a graphically beautiful game, even on medium settings, that comparing it to any other game is a disservice.
Im not sure where you got your impression of either AoC or LOTRO from, but LOTRO is doing shit poorly when it comes to number of subscribers, actually all Turbine games have been very poot in that so far, but I guess at least they keep trying to get it right, they just lack the skills and visions.

I believe LOTRO is a lot healthier than you think it is.

Hah. Age of Conan really is a good bit of a WoW clone, and comparing it to DAoC or even shadowbane isn't worth it.
Age of Conan has a lot of core issues with it that unless Funcom pulls a 180 won't be resolved. The combo system, while a nice idea, is too clunky and slow. The new PvP upgrade really screws with the idea they had for PvP in game and shows they don't understand a thing about their own game.
So many features in the game were not what we expected. It's much more of a WoW clone (except that instead of actual quests all the way through you get the bonus of grinding 25-30 levels).
Also, the game (enviroment) looks good on all highs...when it's working. Most of the time though, even on a top of a line rig (friend is using a GTX280 and still only gets 30fps? I'm using a 9600GT and get around 30) the games memory leaks means that half of the textures are constantly missing and replaced with a blob of that color. Honestly at times the game looked like it was 6 years old more then a new game that brought PC's to its knees.
When the textures work fine, it looks good. The problem is they hardly do.
You said that "AoC was just another copy of WoW". How is it another copy of WoW?
You also said that "AoC, despite all the rumours, are a fairly bug-free product in comparison with other MMO'S out there". Can you list those other MMOs? Are they causing both hard and soft lockups on a regular basis as well as memory leaks?
You say later "Well, I guess bug-free isnt exactly the right word, but you know what I mean...". No, I have no idea what you mean, can you expand on that topic?
Yeah, I guess you're right. Now that I think about it it is a clone of WoW.
WoW cartoony graphics. AoC highly detailed, realistic graphics
WoW mash hotkeys every 1.8 seconds. AoC bait your oponent into opening for combos, then linking attacks.
WoW shoot arrows, monster dies. AoC decapitate your enimies, or leave their axe in their chest and laugh at them as blood splattes on the screen.
WoW player housing... oh no, they never put that in. AoC guild cities, and seiging guild cities.
WoW talent trees. AoC archetype or talent trees, and skill points.
WoW no main story. AoC main story arch for each archetype
WoW ! points over quest givers. AoC ! points over quest givers.
Yep, it's a clone.
I hate to be the one to tell you this but ....
LotRO is doing extremely well.
Don't believe me?
Log on any server and say something like "AoC player looking for a guild" and I can promise you that you'll get at least one /tell from a guild comprised of "old" AoC players .
stopped
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
LOL player houseing?? dont make me laugh, AoC player houseing is ajoke, just like most the game.
75% of respondants to this poll have stated they already left, and didnt even need another game to do it.....bad news funcom.....your new corporate name is crapcom
based on this thread, I think, Age of Conan has failed

I don't play LoTRO.. but you are sorely mistaken. Even though it is probably the closest thing to a WOW direct clone (no pvp).. it has continued non-stop to increase in subscriptions since launch. It is very polished and bug free, same as WOW
And about the live team. If you want to see the difference.. compare the latest patch notes from LotRO and AoC. AoC will always be just a handful of bug fixes/adjustments... LoTRO (they are called books) is full of new quests, new dungeons and just new content... very similar to WOW.
AoC will not have the money to do live (ie free) content updates. .. you'll get monthly bug fixes and possibly an expansion. And like I said in my first post.. there is so much content that is 80% unfinished ( stats, female swing speed, dungeons, seiging) that isn't really considered a bug that simply will not have the developers working on it.
71.3% of those polled have quit already, while 13.7% will quit when WAR / AION / Other release.
AION actually looks mildly interesting, I hope it isn't a grindfest.
Funcom will hopefully go bankrupt soon, so they can't make more games.
I like the combat system, but that doesn't mean i like the game. It's simply a failure and I"m here to prove it. You should consider the funding, what happens if this game goes bankrupt and it will turn into an F2P game
I got a free 60 day time card for AoC and my sub expires in a week or so, but I haven't actually played more than 10 minutes at a time for awhile.
I log in after patches to see if things are any better, and it seems there is a whole lot of others doing this as well (Server population seems pretty good after a patch, only to drop back down).
I will be checking out AION, LotRO:MoM, and WAR.
I'm also pretty hyped about the relaunch of Vanguard. I'd be playing it now, but I like the FFA server and the population isn't very healthy .
